Qatar, which has been mediating talks between Israel and Gaza, expressed its “deep regret” at the resumption of combat and said Israel’s immediate bombing of Gaza in the hours after the pause expired “complicates mediation efforts.” Negotiations “between the two sides are continuing with the aim of returning to a pause,” it added.
Israel published a numbered map that divided the Gaza Strip into several zones and said residents would be told which zones to evacuate — the first time the Israeli military said it has used such a map.
