This a poll a year out from Election Day….
BUT?
Spells trouble for Donald Trump and Republican’s….
With all the cops on Trump’s case?
He ain’t gonna beat 91 felonies…
Some of us have been saying….
Trump’s Republican support will turn out to be softer than the media has been fronting…..
Trump 2.0 odds are much LESS that people think…
And ya know what?
Donald J. Trump probably knows this….
More than 30% of Republicans who responded to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll said they would not vote for former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election if a jury convicts him of a felony.
The poll reports that a potential rematch between the former president and President Joe Biden would be a close call as both candidates have achieved newfound vulnerabilities in their campaigns and stature among their voter base.
Trump currently faces four criminal trials related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his mishandling of classified documents following his departure from the White House. These cases have posed a significant risk to his candidacy, especially if he receives a conviction before Nov. 5, 2024, the poll found
If the 2024 election was held today, 38% of poll respondents said they would cast their vote for Trump, with Biden not far behind at 36%. ….

If Trump is convicted no way he loses close to 31% of Republicans in the General election. If he did Biden would win in a 1984 Ronald Reagan style landslide.
But I do expect Trump to lose a few percentage points among Republicans if he is a convicted felon. And that would be enough to put the White House our of his reach.

Yes this result seems suspect.
I mean the facts of these cases are already well known.Really these Republicans need a jury to tell them that Trump is a liar, cheat and thief?
They don’t know that?

I don’t have the numbers to hand, but a solid minority of Republicans still thought very well of Richard Nixon, even after the Watergate tapes and his resignation in the face of near-certain impeachment and removal by the Senate.
Most Republicans today will say something like “Richard Nixon had his faults and made some mistakes, but he was an accomplished expert with foreign policy who also Brought Us Together after the murderous anarchy of the Sixties.” [Ask CG for his opinion.]
Now most of us hear would disagree with that (like Trump and Reagan, he thrived on provoking domestic dissension rather than bringing reconciliation; while he did advance détente with China and Russia, but his actions also led to the Khmer Rouge, Augusto Pinochet and the Ayatollah) but my point is that a large chunk of the G.O.P. is going to justify Trump and support his policies even after a conviction; perhaps even more so if he goes to prison.
