Don’t matter how many Israeli’s or Palestinian’s are hurt or die…..
The basic will remain ….
Palestinians are a lost tribe in the Middle East…..
Israel became a nation in 1947….
In doing so?
The British divided up Palestine.…
Thing’s are have NOT be settled since….
There is no reason for slaughtering innocent people, no matter what…..
Todays violence on both sides against civilians is a horrible waste of lives…..
Hamas against Israeli’s….
The semantic distinction is not just academic: With the carnage piquing emotions in the Middle East and beyond, new questions about century-old arguments are focusing attention on what assaults on civilians achieve for militant groups….
…
Israeli against Hamas….
Israeli airstrikes flattened mosques over the heads of worshipers. At least two hospitals, and two centers run by the Palestine Red Crescent Society, have been hit. So have two schools run by the U.N. agency that helps Palestinian refugees.
Israel’s fighter jets and artillery have struck targets in Gaza frequently over the years as part of the longstanding conflict between the Palestinians and Israel. But from the first day of this new war, residents of Gaza and health authorities have said that this time the strikes have been indiscriminately hitting structures that haven’t regularly been targeted in the past, such as schools, hospitals and mosques.
Few warnings have been given before strikes, Gazans say, and entire families have been killed in their homes, according to the Gazan Health Ministry.
The strikes are coming as part of Israel’s response to the attack on Saturday, when hundreds of Palestinian gunmen swept across Israel’s border with Gaza, killing more than 1,000 people and taking around 150 hostages, including children and older people. On Monday, Israel’s defense minister announced a “complete siege” of Gaza, saying “no electricity, no food, no water, no fuel” would be allowed in.
Israel has said its strikes are targeting all sites connected with Hamas, the armed Palestinian group that controls the Gaza Strip, including the homes of members. Israel said it believes Hamas members are hiding in homes, schools and hospitals. Hamas members are Palestinians from Gaza, so they live among the community….

US, Israel and Egypt discussing possible safe passage corridor
The US is talking with Israel and Egypt about the idea of a safe passage for Gaza civilians as Israel strikes the enclave after a deadly Hamas attack over the weekend, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Tuesday.
“We are focused on this question, there are consultations going on,” Sullivan told reporters at the White House.
“But the details of that are something that are being discussed among the operational agencies and I don’t want to share too much of that publicly at this time,” Sullivan said.
“We do not deliberately target civilians,” Sullivan said of the US and Israel, when asked about civilian casualties in Gaza in the Tuesday press briefing.
“We work to make sure that our military operations are conducted consistent with the rule of law and the law of war,” he added…..

It’s now been one year, as of yesterday, since our friend Steve “Zreebs” Zrebiec passed away. The void left on here is a gaping one. If I’m honest, probably the only reason I even comment is to continue adding something of the spice he and at one time Jack would add. But no one can ever really fill the void left with his illness and ultimate passing.
In full sum, a much better influence on my life than the other late friend of mine from on here and Politics1, Timothy Leal. Not even close. One met a young and crazy me on my level, the other was that voice calling me out of my slumbers. They say ‘may one’s memory be a blessing.’ That isn’t a difficult proposition here. Re CGs Commentary…
As to the developing move to have all the Republican contenders withdraw in favor of Nikki Haley as the alternative to Trump,The Charleston newspaper this morning ran an editorial supporting the it.
I first became aware of Nikki in 2010 when retiring Gov. Mark Sanford put her forward as his successor.She was basically a little known backbench legislator .Given little chance in a field that included Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, AG Henry McMaster and Cong. Gresham Barrett,Nikki quickly showed herself an effective campaigner and won an upset victory.
Held to a narrow victory in the GE ,Nikki quickly developed a contentious relationship with the Republican leadership in the legislature that was to continue during her six years as Governor(indeed in her reelection bid in 2014 it was a barely concealed secret that most of the Republican leadership were backing Democratic legislator Vince Sheheen ).Once again though ,Nikki proved herself an adept campaigner and increased her margin of victory.
We all know the story of how Nikki,despite being rabidly anti Trump in the 2016 campaign ,ended up UN ambassador where she did a credible job.
As to this move to cast her as the Trump alternative,I admit that ,so far, she has conducted the best campaign of the Republican candidates.As illustrated above, Nikki is a good campaigner.The move therefore has a certain logic.
In my view,Trump remains the overwhelming favorite to be the Republican candidate in 2024 ,but if he is to be derailed the field must at some point,sooner rather than later ,coalesce behind one alternative.Always it was assumed that would be DeSantis but he has shown himself,somewhat surprisingly ,to be an inept campaigner.
And there stands Nikki,who has shown herself to be the best of the rest.
So if the Republicans really want to at least have a chance to stop Trump?
Yeah Nikki is probably their best.
Scott P says
Haley’s problem–as with all the other GOP candidates running save Christie–is her campaign is calculated enough to avoid pissing off Trump to the degree that she closes the door to being his VP.
My Name Is Jack says
I agree.
However, don’t underestimate Haley’s ability to reinvent herself in whatever role is necessary.
If all the other candidates were to withdraw in her favor,admittedly an unlikely prospect?
Nikki could easily become the most vociferous critic of Trump in the Republican Party!

Please, Israel, Don’t Get Lost in Hamas’s Tunnels
New York Times opinion pages
Oct. 29, 2023
I am watching the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza today and thinking about one of the world leaders I’ve most admired: Manmohan Singh. He was India’s prime minister in late November 2008, when 10 Pakistani jihadist militants from the Lashkar-e-Taiba group, widely believed to be linked to Pakistan’s military intelligence, infiltrated India and killed more than 160 people in Mumbai, including 61 people at two luxury hotels. What was Singh’s military response to India’s Sept. 11?
He did nothing….
Nevertheless, it is instructive to reflect on the contrast between India’s response to the Mumbai terrorist attack and Israel’s response to the Hamas slaughter.
After the initial horror at the sheer barbarism of the Hamas onslaught on Israeli children, older adults and a dance party, what happened? The narrative quickly shifted to the brutality of the Israeli counterattack on Gazan civilians, among whom Hamas has embedded itself. The massive Israeli counterstrike overshadowed Hamas’s terror and instead made them heroes to some. It has also forced Israel’s new Arab allies in the Abraham Accords to distance themselves from the Jewish state….
On a personal level, I am appalled by the reaction of those students and progressives who sided with Hamas against Israel — in some cases, even before it retaliated — as if the Jewish people were not entitled to either self-determination or self-defense in any part of their ancestral homeland. This backlash also fails to take into account that Israel, for all its faults, is a multicultural society where almost half of graduating doctors today are Arabs or Druze. Or that Hamas is a militant, Islamist organization that does not tolerate dissent or L.G.B.T.Q. individuals and has been dedicated to wiping the Jewish state off the face of the earth.
So I have sympathy for the terrible choices that Israel’s government faced after the worst slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust. But it was precisely because I closely followed Singh’s unique reaction to the Mumbai terrorist attacks that I immediately advocated a much more targeted, fully thought-through response by Israel. It should have called this Operation Save Our Hostages and focused on capturing and killing the kidnappers of children and grandparents. Every parent could understand that….
The Israeli officials I speak with tell me they know two things for sure: Hamas will never again govern Gaza, and Israel will not govern a post-Hamas Gaza. They suggest that they will set up an arrangement similarly seen in parts of the West Bank today, with Palestinians in Gaza administering day-to-day life and Israeli military and Shin Bet security teams providing the muscle behind the scenes.
This is a half-baked plan. Who are these Palestinians who will be enlisted to govern Gaza on Israel’s behalf? What happens the morning after a Palestinian working for Israel in Gaza is found murdered in an alley with a note pinned to his chest: “Traitor,’’ signed “the Hamas underground.”…

Brandon Presley, the 46-year-old second cousin of rock ‘n’ roll legend Elvis Presley, will need a bipartisan, multiracial coalition to vote in unprecedented numbers to accomplish his goal of unseating Reeves. The state hasn’t wavered as a conservative stronghold in the modern era, and its last Democratic governor was denied a second term 20 years ago.
A former mayor of tiny Nettleton, Presley is wrapping up his fourth term as a state utility regulator for northern Mississippi. Seeking to pull off the improbable in the governor’s race, he has campaigned in all 82 counties — from vote-rich areas in metro Jackson to rural Issaquena County, where fewer than 1,300 people live among cotton and soybean fields in a landmass the size of Los Angeles.
Presley is endorsed by the state’s most powerful Black politician, U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson. One of the most famous Black Mississippi residents, Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman, recently joined him at a campaign event.
Presley has raised more campaign cash than Reeves this year, and he’s attracting larger and more diverse crowds than any Democrat running for Mississippi governor in a generation.
Theresa Hall, a church administrative assistant, attended Presley’s campaign gathering in Natchez and said she plans to make phone calls for him.
“A lot of people think their votes don’t count. But they do,” said Hall, who is Black. “It’s important. If we don’t (vote), we’ll be like we were four years ago, which was disheartening to see.”

Text of the resolution, which passed 396-23
RESOLUTION
Condemning the support of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations at institutions of higher education, which may lead to the creation of a hostile environment for Jewish students, faculty, and staff.
Whereas both Hamas and Hezbollah are recognized by the United States Department of State as Foreign Terrorist Organizations;
Whereas, on October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a surprise attack to deliberately target Israeli civilians, including the killing and abduction of men, women, children, and the elderly;
Whereas Hamas’ stated goal is the entire destruction of the State of Israel and the murder of its Jewish citizens;
Whereas a disturbing number of student organizations at institutions of higher education placed blame solely upon the State of Israel for the attack and expressed support for the terrorist actions of Hamas through the glorification of violence and the usage of antisemitic rhetoric;
Whereas on October 9, 2023, the national leadership of Students for Justice in Palestine declared a day of resistance calling on student chapters across the United States to demonstrate by not just slogans and rallies, but armed confrontation with oppressors and following this announcement many chapters issued pro-Hamas statements;
Whereas on October 10, 2023, a Stanford University lecturer targeted Jewish students during a class on colonialism, justifying the actions of Hamas terrorists by calling them freedom fighters and asking Jewish students to identify themselves and stand in the corner to illustrate what Jews were doing to Palestinians;
Whereas on October 15, 2023, in a complete disregard for humanity, a Cornell University professor grabbed the microphone at a campus rally and pronounced that, Hamas has challenged the monopoly of violence and it was exhilarating. It was energizing…I was exhilarated, in reference to Hamas’ terror attack on Israel;
Whereas on October 22, 2023, the Brandeis University student government voted down a simple resolution condemning Hamas and calling on the immediate release of all hostages back to their families unharmed;
Whereas on October 24, 2023, George Washington University students at a vigil to support Hamas’ surprise attack prominently projected signs on the walls of the university’s library including, Glory to our Martyrs;
Whereas many administrations of institutions of higher education do not follow the practice of institutional neutrality and frequently speak out on public issues, but have failed to speak out clearly after the October 7 attack by Hamas, and have exposed their lack of regard for their Jewish and pro-Israel students; and
Whereas the glorification of violence and usage of antisemitic rhetoric creates a hostile learning and working environment for Jewish students, faculty, and staff: Now, therefore, be it
That the House of Representatives—
(1)condemns the support of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations at institutions of higher education, which may lead to the creation of a hostile environment for Jewish students, faculty, and staff;
(2)calls on campus administrators—
(A)to condemn all forms of antisemitism on college campuses; and
(B)to ensure Jewish faculty, students, and guests can exercise the same Free Speech rights as are guaranteed to all other faculty, students, and guests without intimidation; and
(3)urges enforcement of Federal civil rights laws to protect Jewish students from antisemitism.
