Republican House mebers who were fractured in support for different member’s have come together to elect Mike Johnson of Louisiana at the next US House of Representives Speaker of the House…
The Republicans have NOT offered up ANY other name to vote for except for Johnson….
This is a breaking story stay tuned for Updates….
He should get 220 House Republican votes
Democrat Jeffries 209 votes…
@Redistrict
Rep. Mike Johnson easily secured enough votes to be elected House speaker on Wednesday, as Republicans were eagerly elevating the little-known conservative leader to the seat of U.S. power and ending for now the political chaos in their majority.
With voting still underway, Johnson, of Louisiana, was picking up support from most all Republicans anxious to put the past weeks of tumult behind and get on with the business of governing.
Representative Mike Johnson of Louisiana won election on Wednesday as the 56th speaker of the House of Representatives, putting an end to three weeks of chaos that left the chamber without a leader and put Republican divisions on display.
Republicans elevated Mr. Johnson, 51, a little-known and deeply conservative lawmaker after a tumultuous fight that began after the hard right ousted then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy, and raged on as the divided House G.O.P. nominated and then quickly discarded three other candidates to succeed him.
Worn down by a brutal stretch of infighting that unleashed a barrage of recriminations and violent threats against lawmakers, both the hard-right flank of the party and mainstream Republicans united to elect Mr. Johnson in a 220-209 vote.
It put a socially conservative lawyer who opposes abortion rights and same-sex marriage, and who played a leading role in congressional efforts to overturn the 2020 election, second in line to the presidency.
Elected to Congress in 2016, Mr. Johnson is the most junior lawmaker in decades to become speaker.
He may also be the most conservative…

Any Democratic member could offer such a motion to vacate just to troll the GOP conference — by seeing if any members of the Freedom Caucus or any moderates scared of losing re-election in a Joe Biden district will abstain or vote Aye.

The “sane Republicans” made a show of casting about for the “best option,” only to fall in line behind the worst. Typical.
I’d been pretty sanguine about politics of late. This and the new NC gerrymandering put a huge dent in all that.

Johnson has supported criminalizing gay sex. It will be great to run ads against all those Biden district Republican house members next year.

Republicans are running HARD to LOSE their House majority

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), who had presented herself as more sensible and moderate — at least in style — claimed vindication as she stood in front of the other happy holdouts.
It won’t hurt her in her own district, but I wonder if she still has wider ambitions.
Perhaps Jack can explain the finer distinctions in style and beliefs between Henry McMaster, Nikki Haley, Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott (let alone Jim Clyburn, Strom Thurmond, John C. Calhoun and Edmund Ruffin).
Mace, Haley, Scott and Graham have at various times and in different contexts, presented themselves as some kind of sensitive, caring, independent-minded conservative (e.g. Graham on Guantánamo; Scott on police reform and Haley on the Confederate flag).

No doubt he’ll also attribute it to removing public school prayers.

I don’t think Trump is gonna like that

As CG might (not) say:

(although DJT might quibble about word order and precedence, i.e. “G-dliness is next to Trumpiness)
