The problem?
The two factions of Republicans are dug in….
Jordan’s crew which do NOT work within a system of making deals with Democrats to get things done is countered by Another crew that is ok with empowering Rep. McHenry up to Speaker for a few months and working with Democrats….
So?
There is still a fight by Jordan, who doesn’t seem to be able to deal with the fact that the other crew can’t stand him,
Another vote probably will increase the votes walking away from Jordan BY REPUBLICANS above the 22 now….
This could drag on for a while….
“House Republicans are abandoning a push to empower a temporary speaker, Rep. Patrick McHenry, after it faced fierce pushback within the party on Thursday,” Politicoreports.
“As they left a nearly four-hour internal meeting about the idea, multiple Republicans said there was no virtually no path forward. The proposal, which may still come back for a vote at some point, would have allowed McHenry and the GOP to reopen the House after 16 days without a speaker.”
New York Times: “It was the latest abrupt turn in a Republican speaker drama that has played out for more than two weeks, underscoring the depth of the party’s divisions and disarray. Unable to unite behind a candidate to lead them, the G.O.P. is now unable even to agree on a temporary solution to allow the paralyzed House to function while they sort out their differences.”

Holdouts Aren’t Taking Jim Jordan’s Calls
Some of the Republican holdouts who are against Rep. Jim Jordan for Speaker are refusing to meet with him or take his calls, Axios reports.
Meanwhile, CNN reports that one of the Republicans who voted against Jordan had to have a sheriff stationed at their daughter’s school because of threats.

More on what appears to be a futile effort by Jim Jordan….
Jordan Could Lose 30 or 40 Republicans in Another Vote
Punchbowl News: “The signs are bad for Jordan. Attendees said the meeting didn’t go well. And Jordan looks to still be well short of the 217 votes he needs to be speaker. Senior Republicans say Jordan could lose 30 or 40 GOP votes if he tries another roll call on the floor, which may permanently end any hope he has of being speaker.”
“Jordan has a few options. He can go to the floor and lose. He can withdraw. Or he can do nothing and see what the conference does in response.”
