House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) “definitively” called for a vote against any procedural motion to delay the motion to vacate, Punchbowl News reports.
He also instructed Democrats to vote to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-NY).
The Washington Post says Democrats will not vote present and the caucus is unified.

Assuming the Gaetz Group will not yield, then Democrats are in the same position they were back in January. Hakeem Jeffries is not going to be Speaker, at least not until 2025. The logical thing to do would be for the Democrats to work with five (or more) Republicans who would be willing to do something unconventional like making Fred Upton, a respected moderate Republican former Member the Speaker for the rest of this Congress.
If they wanted to really piss off MAGA, they could make Liz Cheney Speaker.
Liz Cheney is no longer in the House.
But, apparently, you don’t need to be a Representative to serve as Speaker.
No, you do not need to be in the House. People are floating Trump for Speaker once again of course.
There is a budget shutdown that could occur in 43 days. Funding for Ukraine is going to be on hold. It is crucial for the government to get this resolved. They can have vote after vote day after day and eventually a Republican will become Speaker or Democrats can cut a deal and bring in someone like Fred Upton as a caretaker Speaker and then compete for the majority in 2024.

Again, what is notable is Nancy Mace’s vote, after she had been promoted as something of a moderate (or at least a reasonable person) on such issues as reproductive rights.
But Jack knows more about his fellow South Carolinian, so I’m interested in his opinion.
Remember when Elise Stefanik was considered a moderate?
Nancy Mace has pretty much said she just did not trust McCarthy and that he had not kept his word. She said it was not about anything ideological.
Ken Buck is also someone a bit different than the others. He has been calling for the Republican Party to abandon Trumpism and has spoken out against efforts to try to impeach Biden, etc.
