The battle against electric cars is turning into a campaign issue for conservative politicians on both sides of the Atlantic, a development that threatens to neuter the climate benefits of moving away from gasoline.
Some European countries and the U.K. have already walked back policies aimed at combating climate change, amid a wave of populist resistance to green initiatives, write Suzanne Lynch, David Ferris, James Bikales and Timothy Cama.
In the U.S., former President Donald Trump and his Republican rivals are ramping up their anti-EV rhetoric, while GOP-led local and state governments such as Texas are imposing fees and other burdens that could make it harder to own an electric car.
The EV backlash is threatening to kneecap an industry that’s largely considered key to weaning the world off the fossil fuels that are playing a leading role in warming the planet. It comes as automakers, battery companies and governments are busy investing billions of dollars into the transition to battery-powered transportation.
Part of that transition is a response to President Joe Biden’s climate law, which offers U.S. tax incentives for domestic supply chains for electric vehicles. Biden has argued that the law will allow the country to green its transportation sector without relying on foreign countries such as China….
Define electrically Driven, and if only six percent of all vehicles on the road are electric that is a shit ton of vehicles…Ten years from now, a majority of new cars sold will be electric, ten years after that, all cars will be electric and 10 years after that, no more gas stations and no more gas cars with the minor exception…Lithium production increase, cost of battery drop, cost of constructing an electric car is a lot cheaper…the engine of an ICE is the most expensive and labor intensive part of car construction. They can push back all they like, the wave is happening regardless, I got one fully electric and one PHEV…which is going to be a huge market for PHEV in the next year…its a way to gradually get into an electric vehicle…

Americans are NOT knocking themsleves out to pay a premium to buy and operate a Electric Vehicle…
They are NOT rushing to worry about taking a hour to charge their car vs 7 min to gas up….
Ford shuts down it’s electric factory because of Chinese problems….
Ten years from now?
EV’s will be lucky to hold more then 15% of the American vehicle market….
Americans are simply NOT walking away from gas driven vehicles and Big Truck’s do NOT even think about the EV market…
It’s going there because it it IS needed…
But it’s gonna be a crawl…..

Since I own a Volvo electric that means that more than six percent of your readership drives an electric.
By 2030 that number will jump dramatically and let’s hope so to help hold off climate change.
One of the major problems I have with Republicans is their refusal to acknowledge the impact of carbon on our environment.
But that’s one of the reasons they will lose next year’s election.
U and Bdog gonna have to get taxed by the state and Feds like us gas drivers…..
Oh and what about the infrastructure for chargers for them EV’s?

I don’t mind paying taxes James, especially when they go to infrastructure.
This is about our climate and the future of the planet.
Gas tax needs to go way up to rebuild our tans keep people like you from using fossil fuel.

Premium for an electric car? 7.5K tax rebate and a 2K rebate in NY…knocks the car price down still above regular ICE vehicle, but then the extra saving s in fuel over the lifetime of the car…the biggest place gas outdoes electric long fast highway driving, but anyone living in the burbs or the urbs…electric will save you so much…even a highbrid is better than an standard ICE…have fun with the gas prices as I sip on my electric and use gas when I need it…
