Smart move om her part. She could probably wind up in the US House or a statewide office soon.

I wonder who the last person was who went from the Senate to the House. Claude Pepper?
Just as an observation, the only former Senator I can think of off-hand who went on to hold a statewide office other than Governor was when Mike DeWine became AG of Ohio.

John Quincy Adams went from the White House to the People’s House, where he died with his boots on, fighting slavery.
Jefferson Davis went from the Confederate White House to the U.S. Senate. Same for his VP, Alexander Hamilton Stephens.
Of course, the situation before the 17th Amendment (1913) was a little different: most U.S. Senators were chosen by their respective state legislatures (whose composition could change over a 6-year Senate term), while the popular vote in a single Congressional district might be more favourable to a sitting Senator.
