Those who drank the Kool-Aid vastly out number them and Trump simply casts to wide a shadow in the media to save the party from destruction come next year….
“Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) and former House Speaker Paul Ryan — the GOP presidential ticket in 2012 — have drawn four current presidential candidates to their two-day, closed-door summit beginning Tuesday in Park City, Utah,” Axios reports.
“Most of the conversation at the 11-year-old E2 Summit will be about foreign policy, tech and finance/business. But this is a powerful gathering of well-heeled, well-wired Republicans who would love to find — and fund — an alternative to former President Trump.”
Washington Post: “Nikki Haley, Chris Christie, Mike Pence and Doug Burgum will all address those potential backers in closed-door sessions at the policy gathering known as the E2 Summit, which was launched by Romney before he became a U.S. senator from Utah and then helmed by Ryan, the former House Speaker, beginning in 2019.”
Someone even more obscure rhan Will Hurd dropped out of the GOP Presidential race this past week. Steve Laffey, former mayor of Cranston Rhode Island (maybe DSD is familiar with him) also quit the Republican Party..
He ran for the U.S. Senate in the primary in 2006 from the right against Lincoln Chafee. The NRSC and the Bush White House had to make sure that Chafee won that primary or the seat would have been lost for sure to a Democrat. Of course, Chafee lost in November anyway and left the Republican Party.
All these years later, Laffey was running for President on a vehement anti-Trump position. I believe he declared the party “dead” upon leaving the race this week.
