Nothing like doing something stupid that the media can use to make Reputations happy….,
Democratic Lawmaker Pulled Fire Alarm in House Building
Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) was caught on camera pulling the fire alarm ahead of this motion to adjourn vote as Democrats tried to delay the vote on the Republican stopgap bill, Politico reports.
CG says
Dozens and dozens of MAGA fools were rightfully indicted for interfering with official proceedings of Congress on January 6, 20021.
How is what Bowman did any different? His actions were inexcusable and he should no longer be a Member of Congress.
Keith says
So Corey Gross thinks the insurrectionists were interfering rather than attempting to overthrow a duly elected government?!! Republican speak, that’s why people are being sentenced to 22 years in prison because they interfered!!
Congressman Bowman clearly reacted to the Republican Members wearing white sheets who were burning that cross. He smelled smoke!!
The “what about” here is weak tea. He deserves sanction. The Democrats will take care of their problem as usual.

Actually most states have a criminal statute for this type action, albeit a minor one.
In S.C. it is a misdemeanor carrying a fine of $200 or 60 days imprisonments.Usually the fine is imposed in lieu of actual imprisonment.
I would imagine DC has a similar law, likely with a more severe penalty than S.C.
They should prosecute him for the violation.

I agree Jack…..
Fine and he’s getting a political beating in the media for being stupid….

Of course there may be problems with this in that it happened on federal property or he may have Congressional immunity from local laws.
I pretend to no expertise in such matters.
I do know that on federal reservations the local authorities have concurrent jurisdiction IF the federal government is in agreement.
I have prosecuted DUI cases made on federal reservations when the federal authorities barged to allow local law enforcement to make such charges.
Keith says
He’s lucky that the vote came when it did. Now the fight to remove the incompetent Speaker will suck up all the air over the next week.
Stupid thing to do. His constituents don’t care about this, it won’t impact his electoral prospects.
jamesb says
He HAS to pay the fine…..
Trying to duck this when it comes down will only make this WORSE….
He’s on camera…..
His explanation is dumber…..
STFU….
We KNOW it’s embarrassing….
CG says
I would assume Republicans will vote to expel Bowman from Congress if he does not resign. That is a pretty unprecedented thing to do, but I think it would be an appropriate step in a post January 6 world. If a Republican would have done the same thing or ever would do the same thing, it should happen to them too.
I disagreed on principle with the votes that were made months ago to strip Democrats of their committee assignment, but Bowman should not continue to serve because of obvious actions, that he will not even own up to. I assume he may get reelected if his constituents want him back but there is probably a more effective, more mature Democrat available to them to choose.
jamesb says
As was pointed out here previously
Such an offense has no jail time and only fines as consequence..
He should not and probably will not lose his job….
Majorities in Congressional chambers result in committee changes is normal
CG says
He should lose his job for what he did. It would take Democrat votes on the floor, but if those are not there, they can censure him with a bare majority.
Bowman was a middle school Principal. His school had a policy that any student who pulled a fire alarm without cause would be suspended or expelled, depending on the circumstances.
There is no doubt that if anybody who illegally entered the Capitol on January 6 tried to pull the fire alarm in order to prevent or delay the certification of Biden as President, they would have been charged criminally and likely would do prison time.
I actually do not think Bowman should be behind bars, but there should be some sort of legal sanction for what he did and he should do the right thing and resign from Congress because he obviously does not have the maturity to serve. He put a lot of people at physical risk yesterday. What would be next as a delaying tactic? Bomb threats?
Keith says
LOL, another Corey outrage session.
If we apply these standards for resignation then clearly all 150 Republicans who voted with the insurrectionists to overthrow our legitimately elected President should resign from Congress immediately.
And, of course Congresswoman Boebert should resign her seat immediately for giving her boyfriend a handjob in public for the cameras to see.
We aren’t outraged about that?
I think pulling a guy’s dick in public carries the same legal liability as pulling a fire alarm.
