Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) is expected to resign from his seat later today, further complicating Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s thin majority, Politico reports.
A general election for the seat will be held in late November.

Republicans in the Trump era have become surprisingly soft with Mormon voters, and Democratic State Senator Kathleen Riebe provides the party a solid recruit to take advantage of this. It’s also the second least Republican district in the state, with Biden hitting 40% there in 2020.
