Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito thinks Congress cannot tell the judges what they can and cannot do ethically LIKE ANY OTHER FEDERAL JUDGE?
Of course other judges working for the High Court DO comply with disclosure codes….
Seems to me that that ole Sam things he’s a ‘SUPREME’ actually?
“I know this is a controversial view, but I’m willing to say it,” Alito said. “No provision in the Constitution gives them the authority to regulate the Supreme Court — period.”
Asked if other justices agree, Alito replied: “I don’t know that any of my colleagues have spAoken about it publicly, so I don’t think I should say. But I think it is something we have all thought about.”
llegations of ethics breaches among the justices and reports of luxurious vacations paid for by private benefactors — including a fishing trip to Alaska for Alito — have put the court in the spotlight recently.
Last week the Senate Judiciary Committee voted along party lines to advance the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal and Transparency Act, which seeks to impose on the court disclosure rules as strict as those governing members of the House and the Senate….
Update….
Note….
Of course Congress COULD stop funding the High Court, eh?
