The Justice Department took the legally and politically momentous step of lodging federal criminal charges against former President Donald J. Trump, multiple people familiar with the matter said on Thursday. The charges follow a lengthy investigation of his handling of classified documents that he took with him upon leaving office and into whether he obstructed the government’s efforts to reclaim them.
The indictment, filed in Federal District Court in Miami, is the first time in American history a former president has faced federal charges. It puts the nation in an extraordinary position, given Mr. Trump’s status not only as a onetime chief executive but also as the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination to face President Biden, whose administration will now be seeking to convict his potential rival.
Mr. Trump was charged with a total of seven counts, including willfully retaining national defense secrets in violation of the Espionage Act, making false statements and an obstruction of justice conspiracy, according to people familiar with the matter.
Mr. Trump is expected to surrender himself to authorities in Miami on Tuesday, according to a person close to him and his own post on Truth Social.
The indictment, filed by the office of the special counsel Jack Smith, came about two months after local prosecutors in New York filed more than 30 felony charges against Mr. Trump in a case connected to a hush money payment to a porn star in advance of the 2016 election….

But using evidence from the Mueller investigation or pointing out sections of the Mueller Report to grand jurors could be an unnecessary tangent, given how heated the political debate around Mueller’s investigation became. “Any association with Mueller is not going to be helpful for Jack Smith,” the former prosecutor said.
Even before the Mueller report was released, Trump’s allies pointed to Barr’s summary of it to insist that Trump had done nothing wrong. But Mueller did not rule out that Trump committed a crime in obstructing his investigation. His report established that even a person who wasn’t guilty of a crime being investigated could still have committed a criminal act by interfering with the investigation.
Mueller’s report concluded that then-President Trump “launched public attacks on the investigation and individuals involved in it who could possess evidence adverse to the President, while in private, the President engaged in a series of targeted efforts to control the investigation.” Mueller also said his investigation “found multiple acts by the President that were capable of exerting undue influence over law enforcement investigations, including the Russian-interference and obstruction investigations.”…

I haven’t been on this site the last week. My mother passed away a few days ago. She had been in declining health so we are happy she is no longer in pain.
An odd historical twist. My mom considered herself an Eisenhower Republican, casting her first Presidential vote for him in 1956. My father was a union Democrat. He passed of cancer in Nov 1984 and was buried the same day Reagan won 49 states. My mother will be buried the day the current Republican Presidential front runner will turn himself in on federal charges.

Sorry for your loss. That’s hard, I hope I don’t live long enough to lose my parents, but it’s probably inevitable.
My Grandmother passed a couple of weeks ago at 93 following a spell of declining health. It is sad, but also a relief that she’s no longer in that place.
Big time Republican, but refused to support Goldwater and Trump. Devout Christian, but also made some pretty acid comments about Jerry Falwell the day he died. When I was being home schooled, she did English, Literature, and a Bible studies thing, and she negatively commented to my Dad and Aunt about all the agendas the curriculum was trying to push. I will always remember her as the person who tried to instill good faith and keep the bad stuff out.
On the matter of the bad stuff, I’ve been the terror of all the big Wikipedia pages in conjunction with Pat Robertson, posting a bunch of stuff about him dying at the hands of Howard Stern and Company.

So Joe joins so many other political leaders who’s children spew their seed in places that they shouldn’t (at least Hunter can get it up). But, did Joe really refuse to acknowledge this child or did he miscount? After all, I would have to assume he has never even seen this baby right?
Joe is, and I have first hand knowledge of this since my husband worked with Jill over the years, one of the nicest human beings that walks on this planet, he takes his religion very seriously and I cannot imagine him not accepting any child brought into his family.
