Lets walk ahead to 2024…..
Donald Trump will be headed to the 2024 Republican nomination full steam….
Ron DeSantis will biting at his ankles….
That’s all….
The third tier will be scrambling for money to stay afloat…..
Ok….
Running concurrently will be several things….
First….
‘The Donald ‘ will be crying….
About EVERYTHING…..
Second….
He will have endured several high profile civil case loses…
Sexual the recent case conviction dragged out on appeal….
Losing to the New York Attorney General in a fraud case that will cost him hundreds of millions….
More sexual abuse case’s….
Jan. 6 civil cases naming him as the responsible party….
Third….
State criminal trials in New York and Atlanta….
My guess?
He gets convicted in both….
In the Manhattan case on misdemeanors….
In the Atlanta case on felonies….
But?
In Georgia he COULD get a pardon…..
Fourth and the BIGGEST worry for Trump?
Jack Smith and the Justice Dept’s files and Jan 6 case…..
The Files case is probably the best case for the DOJ……
The Jan.6 case will probably be trickiest….
But the Feds HAVE to act on both by the end of this summer…..
The two state trials will play out during the beginning of the primaries of next year….
The Fed’s need to get their’s in BEFOFE the GOP convention in mid July….
Running a trail afterwards will switch the media narrative in to Trump’s hands ….
There is NO doubt in this dogs mind that Donald Trump, a convicted felon by Sept of next year, has NO chance of Beating Joe Biden…..
But he’s a interesting fact….
If Smith charges Trump with trying to overthrow the country in his Jan. 6 actions?
And THAT sticks with a jury in Washington DC?
Donald Trump comes ineligible to BE President by the words of the Constitution….
(Let me state here that the tight MAGA Repoublican primary voters probably WILl stick with Trump even if he’s sitting in jail….If my guess here is correct?…Evenything else does NOT matter…He’s got them….)
Oh, Biden will make sure he doesn’t serve time…
But folks….
He ain’t NEVER getting his old job back as President….
Nope….

What did Mitt Romney have to do with this?
I saw nothing in the article that tied him to any of this.
I mean just because he is a Mormon?

Mitt is the public face of Mormonism the way Francis is the public face of Catholicism. With great prestige comes great responsibility. Francis had to handle the sex abuse scandal. Mitt is the only one who can properly address this. But then, he IS a man of the Swiss Bank accounts himself.

You’re probably right that racism will cap his support amongst the base subgroups he needs in order to win. He’s only worth taking seriously as far as candidates not named Trump are concerned. Taking off and actually winning are very different, same principle behind my covering Biden’s top challengers.
Speaking of, RFK Jr as a running mate might conversely RAISE Ramaswamy’s chances with GOP voters, as the former’s staunch anti-vaccine noise plays very well with them and makes him their “token Democrat.” Right wing base voters also like to tout JFK and RFK as the kinds of “good Democrats” who would be Republicans today. Bull, but that is their line.

Right-wingers are suspiciously weak on Russia and like-minded governments (Hungary, Poland, Turkey, etc.), but apologists for the equally-corrupt and oppressive rulers of China, Iran, Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua would have a hard time even reaching the ear of your standard (MAGA or non-MAGA) right-wing Republican primary voter.

No Labels
Cutting against the media narrative, I say this HELPS Biden and the Democrats. Many(Not all or close to a majority, mind you, but enough to take note) Republicans find themselves stuck between voting for Trump again or voting for Biden, who has governed well to the left of how he campaigned in 2020(To his credit!). A no win situation, but then you have Joe Manchin riding in on his high horse(Time to send both of them to the glue factory?) to save the day. At last, not totally off the rocker Republicans have an out in the “good” Senator, and enough of them defect from Trump in order to flip Texas, Kansas, the Lincoln area Electoral Vote in Nebraska, the Maine EV, even Utah, and helps superficially pad Biden’s margin in NC.
People who recognize the true threat of Trump and the Republicans won’t vote for No Labels regardless of their own political beliefs, recognizing the ill consequence such a vote can create. Any bleed from Biden’s 2020 margins gets canceled out or outright reduced to irrelevancy by the sheer volume of Gen Z voters who are registering and are already more Liberal than previous generations.

Manchin is a man without a country……
He IS TRUE to his state’s interest’s….

Running mate question is settled on the Democratic side. It will be Kamala Harris.
Presidents don’t switch out VPs anymore. Sure stories will he written theorizing who *could* replace Harris on the ticket. But it won’t happen.
My Name Is Jack says
True.
The last time a President replaced his running mate was FDR in 1944 and that was done begrudgingly.Roosevelt liked VP Henry Wallace but was convinced by old guard Democrats that the sometimes outspoken Wallace was too far left.Ultimately he went with the undistinguished Harry Truman whom Wallace opposed on a third party ticket in 1948.
Some Republicans wanted Eisenhower to replace Nixon in 1956 and apparently Ike considered it and floated the idea of making Nixon Secretary of Defense.Nixon resisted and Ike backed down.
Since then there has been no serious effort of a sitting President to replace his VP.
Scott P says
Ford replaced appointed VP Rockefeller with Bob Dole in 1976 but they never ran together on a ticket. I think most thought of Rockefeller as a short term second in command.
I think Bush 41 came close to replacing Quayle in 1992, but apparently couldn’t do it himself. I’ve read that if Quayle volunteered to drop off the GOP ticket Bush would have accepted it.

Easy from afar, but not easy close in….
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Though it was not uncommon in the 19th century’s relatively rare re-election campaigns, I think that Henry Wallace was the last living, elected VP to be dropped from the president’s ticket. (John Nance Garner, after serving two terms as FDR’s VP, campaigned against FDR for the 1940 Democratic nomination and against a third term for FDR.)
Before Garner, you have to go back to the 19th century, when Benjamin Harrison (R) served with Levi Morton from 1889-1893, but picked Whitelaw Reid as his 1892 running mate. Grant dropped VP Schuler Colfax in 1872 in favour of Henry Wilson (who then died in office). Lincoln dropped Hannibal Hamlin (R) for Andrew Johnson (D) in his 1864 re-election as a fusion (Union Party) candidate with the War Democrats. John Quincy Adams’ unopposed VP in 1824 was John C. Calhoun, who ran with Andrew Jackson in 1828.
Several 19th-century VPs died in their first term with a president (George Clinton, Elbridge Gerry, Thomas Hendricks, Garret Hobart, et al.)
Only about twenty elected Presidents out of 47 have sought re-election. Most of them ran with the same VP candidate:
Washington kept John Adams in 1792.
Monroe kept Daniel Tompkins in 1820.
Van Buren kept Richard Johnson in 1840. They lost.
Taft kept James Sherman in 1912. They lost.
Wilson kept Thomas (5-cent cigar) Marshall in 1916.
Hoover kept Charles Curtis in 1932. They lost.
FDR kept John N. Garner in 1936.
Ike kept Nixon in 1956.
Nixon kept Agnew in 1972.
[Ford dropped the unelected Nelson Rockefeller in 1976 for Bob Dole. They lost.]
Carter kept Walter Mondale in 1980. They lost.
Reagan kept GHW Bush in 1984.
GHW Bush kept Dan Quayle in 1992. They lost.
Clinton kept Al Gore in 1996.
GW Bush kept Richard Cheney in 2004.
Obama kept Biden in 20012.
Trump kept Mike Pence in 2020. They *lost*.

Morning….
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I decided to rewrite that and post it here:
Before Ford’s replacing the unelected Nelson Rockefeller in 1976, Alben Barkley’s decision to run for President rather than VP in 1952, and FDR’s replacement of Henry Wallace in 1944, there was John Nance Garner’s decision to seek the Presidency rather than the Vice Presidency in 1940.
But before that, you have to go back to 1892, when Benjamin Harrison (R) ran with Whitelaw Reid, rather than his elected, living VP, Levi Morton. And two decades earlier, Grant’s choice of Henry Wilson (who later died in office) in 1872 rather than his elected, living Vice President Schuyler Colfax; and then to Abraham Lincoln’s dropping of elected, living VP Hannibal Hamlin (R) in favor of Andrew Johnson (D) when the GOP fused with the War Democrats in the 1864 “Union Party”.
John C. Calhoun (D-R) was basically unopposed in 1824, when John Quincy Adams (D-R) was elected President by the Congress; but in 1828, Calhoun ran with Jackson (D) rather than with J.Q. Adams (now a National Republican) who in turn ran unsuccessfully with Richard Rush (N.R.) as his potential VP. But Calhoun didn’t run again with Jackson in 1832 because he’d resigned the Vice Presidency upon his appointment (by the state legislature) as U.S. Senator from South Carolina. (Jackson instead won re-election with Martin Van Buren of New York.)
In 1796, John Adams (Fed.) won with Thomas Pinckney, but lost in 1800 with Charles Pinckney.
In 1800, Jefferson was elected by Congress (after a “Corrupt Bargain”) as President and Aaron Burr Vice-President, but Burr didn’t run again for VP (or Pres.) in 1804 after a couple of scandals. Instead, Jefferson ran with George Clinton. Clinton was elected Vice President again in 1808 with James Madison as President, but died in 1812, making him hard to renominate a second time. Instead the unlucky Madison ran with Elbridge Gerry, who died in 1814. [Other VP’s who died in their first term include William King in 1853, Thomas Hendricks in 1875, Garret Hobart in 1899 and James Sherman in October 1912.]
Other 18th and 19th century Presidents did choose to run with their living, elected Vice Presidents: Washington with John Adams in 1792 & 1796; James Monroe with Daniel Tompkins in 1816 & 1820; Martin Van Buren with Richard Johnson in 1836 & 1840.
But in the 20th century, not only was it more common for Presidents to gain renomination; their elected, living Vice Presidents were also likely to win renomination:
Taft with James Sherman in 1908 & 1912. (Taft lost re-election.)
Wilson with Thomas Marshall in 1912 & 1916.
Hoover with Charles Curtis in 1928 & 1932. (They lost.)
FDR with John N. Garner in 1932 & 1936.
Esienhower with Nixon in 1952 &1956.
Nixon with Spiro Agnew in 1968 & 1972.
Carter with Walter Mondale in 1976 & 1980. (They lost.)
Reagan with Geo. H.W. Bush in 1980 & 1984.
GHW Bush with Dan Quayle in 1988 & 1992. (They lost.)
Clinton with Al Gore in 1992 & 1996.
GW Bush with Richard Cheney in 2000 & 2004.
Obama with Joe Biden in 2008 & 2012.
Trump with Mike Pence in 2016 & 2020. (They lost according to Pence and the Federal courts, but *won* according to Trump.)

My Name Is Jack says
CG posts a weekly review of the political week on his blog.
I usually read it.Sort of his view of the happenings of the previous week with some editorial comments usually from a pre Donald Trump Republican point of view.
I don’t always agree with his comments but it’s well written and he does a good job of defending his point of view.
Too bad that these political discussions here adversely effect his health.Although he never specified how they did,one can only assume that they were causing blood pressure problems as I can’t think of any other health related problem that would be effected by simply reading comments.
Keith says
That in itself may be a good clue Jack. Comments on an anonymous blog are too upsetting. Go figure.
The old GOP is dead, it’s Trump’s party now and that bothers lots of people. But they created him, have to live with him and all that racism that brings.
jamesb says
My feeling is he WILL PROBABLY rip the ass out of the ‘Grand ole Party’ before he’s done…..

And that’s the conundrum the Republicans find themselves in.
Suppose for the moment that one of the other candidates catches fire and defeats Trump for the nomination.
What happens then? Does anybody really think Trump will play the good Party guy, show up at the convention and raise the winners hand in a sign of unity? If you do I suggest you are naive in the extreme.
In my view ,in such a scenario ,Trump will call the whole process crooked. He will declare the nomination was stolen from him, that the Republican Party is a bunch of thieves etc etc.
Remember about 30% of Republicans declare that Trump is more important to them than the Party.
Trump will either tell his people not to vote, run as a third party candidate or support someone who does.
So the Republicans?
They nominate Trump and probably lose.
They nominate someone else and probably lose.
Talk about a dilemma!
