Interesting that HE should advance this against the party OF Donald Trump, eh?
But he DOES have a point….
Donald Trump WAS a LOSER…..
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said the GOP needs to reject a “culture of losing” that has taken hold in the party in recent years to win the elections in 2024.
DeSantis said during an appearance on Saturday at the annual Feenstra Family Picnic, an annual fundraiser hosted by Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa), that Republicans will win in 2024 if they provide a “positive alternative” to President Biden and make the election a referendum on the Biden administration.
“But there’s no substitute for victory,” he said. “We must reject the culture of losing that has infected our party in recent years.”
“The time for excuses is over. We got to demonstrate the courage to lead and the strength to win,” DeSantis added.
His comments come as the Florida governor appears to be close to launching a run for the Republican nomination for president in 2024. He has on multiple occasions visited early-voting states in the Republican nominating process like Iowa and South Carolina recently, and he said earlier this month that he recognizes he needs to make a decision about the future “relatively soon.”…
…
…Trump has received criticism from some in his party, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, over the party losing control of the House in 2018 and the presidency in 2020 and having a disappointing performance in the 2022 midterm elections.
DeSantis did not directly name Trump but seemed to join in blaming the current frontrunner for the Republican nomination for the party’s performance in recent elections…..

That “loser” line has little applicability to today’s Republican Party.
Sure one would think “losing “ would suggest that they should go another route.
That assumes of course that rationality guides the party.
In the case of Republicans ,however ,such is woefully missing.Instead HATE is the guiding light and just eliminating Trump from the equation isn’t going to solve their problem.Indeed, DeSantis himself and his attacks on people different from him is a prime example of the resentment that now is the beacon of the Republican Party.
Until the Republican Party learns the lesson that depending on people’s prejudices and Hate for winning elections is ultimately self defeating? Then losing may continue to be the hallmark of their existence.

DeSantis is merely pointing out that since Trumps’ loss the Republican brand HAS been correctly LOSING…..
Less wins in the midterms
Arrests of prominent Republicans including an ex president
Wrong side of abortion
His flight with Disney
Lindsey Graham lost in space
Trump approval LOWER than Biden
I’d say DeSantis has that one RIGHT
My Name Is Jack says
Cow manure
DeSantis wasn’t just “merely pointing out .”
He was implicitly claiming he offered a “positive alternative “
My point is that DeSantis offers Nothing particularly different from Trump.
Maybe a little insignificant different tone but the substance is the same….Stirring up hate and resentment ala Trump.Youve always had a blind spot when it comes to DeSantis and have frequently boosted him as an “alternative “ to Trump when the difference between them is insignificant.
jamesb says
He actually MUCH WORSE…..
He is a HARDCORE RIGHT MARCHING inept selling things that would never work nationwide
His Foreign affairs policy utterances are not consistent with reality…..
Attacking Big Business as a Republican????
His stance on abortion alone would cost him a presidential vote chance
Republicans in Congress will NEVER let him get away with what he has in Florida
But worst?
He seems tone deaf
Ghost of SE says
You think the House GOP would actually stand up to DeSantis’ attacks on big business?
Dream on. Going after “woke” is their calling card, their life blood now.

And then there’s your latest favorite Republican,Nikki Haley, who was twisting and turning to the question as to whether Trumps adverse verdict in the sexual abuse case hurts the Republican Party.
Obviously fearing Trumps wrath, little Nikki could only say that she wasn’t on the jury and gee there’s an appeal.Real profile in courage there!
Sic her Trump!
What’s next?Nikki running to her room and locking the door?
jamesb says
Haley and company including DeSantis will try to stay in as long as they can…..
A Trump implosion could leave a wide open field
She should have a chance there
jamesb says
BTW?
Tim Scott and DeSantis are supposed to declare in the next few weeks
My Name Is Jack says
Nikki’s best chance will come in New Hampshire if she can make it even that far.NH is known for sometimes shaking things up and Nikki may appeal to those non MAGA types there.
She’s pretty, amiable and talks well.If she could somehow pull off an upset there, then she would have head of steam heading into S.C. ,but then, what of Scott? If he’s still in ,she confronts a major obstacle.Scott and Nikki aren’t really close(despite the fact that it was Haley,as Governor, who appointed Scott to the Senate to fill Demints unexpired term.)
Scott is very popular among Evangelicals , of which he is one and ,in general, is more popular among organization Republicans than Nikki.Even with an upset in NH she pretty much has to win S.C. to remain viable.
So does Haley have a shot?Yes, but a very slim one ,and it is dependent on numerous factors playing out in unexpected ways.
Ghost of SE says
Tim Scott has way better odds at NH, still less than a 1% shot, than Haley does. He at least begins to offer a forward vision for the party. Haley has nothing. Her moment was in 2016 when she could have cleared the field of non Trumps, actually cinched the nod over Trump(She and, strangely enough, Mitt Romney were the only two who could have pulled that off), and narrowly won the popular vote and an electoral college landslide that November.
Ghost of SE says
Let me try summing up her conundrum…
Having occasionally gone to the Facebook pages of people who have fully fallen into MAGA World and the RRH comment section, the Trump supporters, those who waffle between him and DeSantis, and 2x Trump voters who outright want to move on with DeSantis can largely be considered “Never Haley” voters. The SC flag issue from 2015(of which she found herself on the right side) and subsequent lackluster service in the Trump Administration make her downright radioactive to the base. Their memes of her lead me to believe that they’d sit it out between her and Biden. She also commands no respect from the non Trump Republican voters for her weasely Trump sycophantry over the last 7 years.
Essentially, she is a candidate with no base constituency. If you could give a candidate odds in the negative integers, she’d be the one.
Ghost of SE says
Then you have those 2x Trump voters who were previously Gore/Kerry/Obama x2 voters. They look at her and Biden, and it’s back to the Democrats for them. Plastic donor creations don’t play well there.

Nikki Haley disimpressed me a lot in that interview.
What surprised me was Margaret Brennan, whose style I normally dislike because she gets too wound up in her own pere-set question list and doesn’t accept or engage with the answers that her subject gives..
But when Brennan asked if the misery that drives Venezuelan and Cuban emigration might be reduced by cutting the U.S. sanctions on their countries, Haley gave an answer about everything but the question. And Margaret Brennan didn’t follow up. (Maybe she was too wound up in her next question.)
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Hete is the Palmetto State’s contribution to Profiles in Courage:
…MARGARET BRENNAN: But as you know, deportation is problematic to countries where the U.S. has strained relations like Venezuela and Cuba so even if you catch, you can’t necessarily deport. So for Cuba and Venezuela, would you keep those Trump era sanctions on those countries which are already economically distressed? And some would say the sanctions make it even worse sending migrants here.
HALEY: We always want to take care of people who have been persecuted, but we’ve got to take care of Americans first. We’ve got to start looking at the fact that every state’s a border state, that we’ve had enough fentanyl cross the border that would kill every single American. The number one cause of death for adults 18 to 49 is fentanyl. Why don’t we focus on that first? We can’t take care of anybody else if we can’t take care of ourselves.
.MARGARET BRENNAN: So you would keep the sanctions on those countries is what I hear.
HALEY: I think- I think we need to stop the bleeding of the border and completely do immigration reform before we can think of taking anybody else into this country. …

Interesting story on PWire this AM highlighting how DeSantis is having a hard time making the electability argument against Trump because he can’t even admit that Trump lost in 2020.
My Name Is Jack says
Yes
Too little attention is being paid to DeSantis advising Trump and the rest of the anti democratic Republican Party on how to steal the election in 2000.
DeSantis is a liar , a cheat and a thief.
jamesb says
Bad one at that…….
Opposition Research WILL develop on DeSantis soon enough…
