The Hill is out with a piece that has immigration advocate’s happy with her leaving the Biden admin….
They ‘think’ the Democratic President is gonna somehow move to INCREASE the number of immigrants entering the United States….
President Biden and his Homeland Security Sec have been been under HUGE pressure from Republicans and even some Democrats for the migrant shipments to Northern Democratic states….
Republicans and media routinely flash stories of immigrant surges at the US/Mexican border ….
And a election a year and haft away….
Thinking that Biden will be moving to INCREASE border crossing is foolhardy…..
It’s NOT about Susan Rice folks….
It IS about POLITICS…..
The departure of Biden adviser Susan Rice has prompted relief among immigration advocates, who hope her exit signals a shift on the approach to the border.
Rice, the head of the Domestic Policy Council, announced Monday she would step down from the post, a broad portfolio and one where she frequently gave input on immigration matters.
That influence often caused frustration among lawmakers and immigration groups, many of whom saw Rice as a primary force behind some of the Biden administration’s more hard-line immigration policies, including the continued use of Trump-era deterrent policies at the border.
Nayna Gupta, associate director of policy at the National Immigrant Justice Center, said Rice’s departure will be a “critical moment of transition for the administration.”
“It offers the president an opportunity to reevaluate what they’re doing on immigration and to follow through on a lot of broken promises related to managing the border humanely,” she said. “And to rethink how you respond to a migration challenge with a humanitarian lens rather than a hardline, hawkish punitive response, which is what seemed to be supported by Susan Rice in the Domestic Policy Council until now.”….
Rice will leave the administration shortly after the end of Title 42 on May 11, but Gupta said she doesn’t expect any immediate shift.
“If there’s anything we’ve learned in the immigration, space, it’s that it can always be far too soon to celebrate. It may be potential for change, but we don’t know what that looks like,” she said….
This is NOT about Susan Rice….
The Biden admin IS doubling down in its immigration policy….
The Biden administration on Thursday announced new efforts to limit the flow of unauthorized migrants across the southern border, including the opening of processing centers in the region, while warning that a coming change in the law will not make entering the United States easier.
The announcements came two weeks before the scheduled court-ordered lifting of Title 42, a public health rule issued during the pandemic that gives U.S. officials unusual powers to quickly expel migrants who cross the border without permission. Biden officials fear the change in law will attract a wave of migrants at a time when Republicans are accusing President Biden of being too tolerant of illegal immigration….
[DHS Sec] Mr. Mayorkas stressed that the Biden administration would aggressively exercise other powers to ensure that illegal entries remained difficult for migrants and easy for U.S. officials to reverse.
Another section of U.S. law known as Title 8, Mr. Mayorkas said, carries “stiff consequences for irregular migration,” including a five-year ban and potential criminal charges for people repeatedly caught trying to enter the country. The shift to those authorities will be “swift and immediate” after the expiration of Title 42, Mr. Mayorkas said.
The administration is also completing new rules that would make migrants who failed to apply for humanitarian protection in a country on the way to the U.S. border ineligible for asylum in the United States.
He also said the administration can only do so much, and implored Congress to pass “desperately needed reform to our immigration and asylum system.”….
