This IS NOT news but needs to be a reminder….
Donald Trump will seek ANY opportunity to gum up the legal works…
It will up to the judges to move thinbgs along and they KNOW it…..
Yes….
It does look like SEVERAL criminal and civil trials will be up for starting from now thru this time next year at least….
But with the Manhttan DA breaking the ice?
Will Trump’s effort for political NOT legal cover work?
Trump has spent decades refining tactics for prolonging his legal fights as his lawyers attempt to out-wait and outlast the patience of his adversaries. Though a criminal indictment presents him with a different set of options — and obstacles — than his many previous bouts in civil court, there is still a substantial menu for him to choose from.
“If they’re doing their job, they’re going to do everything they can to delay, delay, delay, delay,” said Catherine Christian, a 30-year veteran of the Manhattan district attorney’s office who is now a defense attorney. “Every single motion they can think of. That’s what they’re going to file.”….
…
The first indication of Trump’s posture will likely come Tuesday at his arraignment, when a deadline will be set for various motions in the case. That will be followed by a relatively strict series of “adjournment dates” for other phases of the case. One of those deadlines arrives in early May: a 35-day post-arraignment deadline for District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office to provide all relevant documents and evidence to Trump’s defense team. Trump’s attorneys are sure to use each of those inflection points to file a new series of motions, Christian said….
…
The judge expected to preside over Trump’s case, Juan Merchan, will no doubt be on the lookout for frivolous efforts to prolong the case, she added.
Under the Sixth Amendment, all criminal defendants have the right to a speedy trial, but many defendants nonetheless seek to postpone their day of reckoning. Buying time would be particularly attractive for Trump because of the legal uncertainty that would arise if he wins the presidential election in November 2024. In that scenario, some constitutional scholars believe the need to serve in office would override the consequences of a conviction, including any prison sentence.
The recently completed criminal trial for the Trump Organization and a related company on tax-related charges took almost 16 months from indictment to opening statements. The Iowa caucuses are in 10 months, and the presidential general election is 19 months away.
After a five-week trial in the Trump Org case, a jury convicted the Trump companies on all 17 felony charges and the judge imposed a $1.6 million fine. That case was held in the same courthouse where Trump is expected to be tried in the hush money case, and was overseen by the same judge…..
…
Defense attorneys often demand a speedy trial at the outset of a case, only to repeatedly press for delays as the trial date nears. Some delays may also be inevitable because of Trump’s reelection bid and the slew of other legal entanglements he faces, including two scheduled trials in civil cases and the possibility of more criminal charges from ongoing probes in Georgia and Washington, D.C….

Republican authoritarian Jim Jordan, the leader of the Orwellian named House”Freedom “Caucus , wants to defund the FBI.
With no evidence whatsoever, the Right Wing creep claims that the FBI has been “interfering “ in elections which Republicans lose.
I’ve never understood why Jordan ,who graduated from Law School ,for some reason claims he has never taken the Bar exam. Why would anyone bear the time ,expense and the major league hassle of spending three years of your life putting up with the rigors thereof and then not take the Bar?Doesnt even make sense.Theres probably a story there.

Like just about EVERYTHING from Jordan since January?
This is just Bull Shit posturing…..
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I suspect there might be some reason which stopped him from applying to join the Bar.
But there are also M.B.A.’s, accountants and medical doctors who also take law degrees without any intention of practising law but because the legal knowledge could be useful (or at least prestigious) in their main career.
Mitt Romney, for example (and against advice), took simultaneous degrees from Harvard Law School and the Harvard School of Business.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Another example would be senior police officers who earn a law degree at some point in their careers.

About 2% of law school graduates never take the Bar exam.
This minutiae aside, one can believe that the likes of a POS like Jim Jordan has some high minded reason not to take the Bar exam. Not me.
The most likely story here? The egotistical Jordan probably failed it but knows that discovering this would be almost impossible because scores are not public record.
However ,if there be those who wish to believe that Jordan spent three years and thousands of dollars to secure a legal education and then just said to himself,”ah the Hell with it?” Please feel free to do so.
