The West Virginia Democratic US Senator never ceases to make the news at causing ‘his’ party headaches…
Another run for rhge US Senate?
Or?
The Democratic nomination for President?
(WHAT????)
Joe Manchin said he won’t make a decision on running for president in 2024 until ‘the end of the year.’
The West Virginia Democrat said whoever ends up in the White House next, he would work with as a U.S. senator – even if that is now-indicted former President Donald Trump.
Manchin threw a curveball into his party identification, refusing to commit on whether he would run as a Democrat, Republican or third-party if he does make a bid for the White House.
‘My filing date is January 15 in 2024 and I will make my decision maybe a little bit before that, but not until the end of the year, I can assure you,’ Manchhin told NBC’s Meet the Press host Chuck Todd on Sunday morning.
‘As a Democrat or as something else?’ Todd questioned.
‘Well, the party identification is not going to change me. Democrat, Republican. I mean, having a D or R should not change you as a person. I’m going to still fight for the things I do,’ Machin assured.
‘Can’t I be a moderate centrist with whatever identification or no identification? I would think. I’m not going to be changing as a person,’ the West Virginia senator continued. ‘I’ve been doing this for a long time…

“I am laser focused on doing the job West Virginians elected me to do — lowering healthcare costs, protecting Social Security and Medicare, shoring up American energy security and getting our fiscal house in order. But make no mistake, I will win any race I enter.”
— Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), in a statement….

Well if Manchin thinks he is going to be elected President of the United States on some third party ticket?
He’s completely delusional .

Indeed…..

I took his comment to mean “any race I enter” in the state of West Virginia. He’ll still have an uphill climb whether he runs for Senator or Governor again. But it wouldn’t be a completely hopeless case like running for President.
Indeed the only place you hear him talked up realistically as a Presidential candidate is on this blog. By one person who continues to carry the torch for an independent or third party effort that most realize is completely impossible under the Electoral College.

Agreed……
Retirement is around the corner for him

Manchin is a rather colorless guy who is only attracting attention because of the Democrats precarious majority in the Senate. While he often makes sounds as to his independence? As Politico noted, he still usually votes with the Democrats. Thus if one considers Biden as too “liberal”it would be odd to support one who usually supportsBidens policies.
I really don’t see him as a viable presidential candidate whether as a Democrat or on some third party ticket.
Indeed ,Manchin reminds somewhat of Jim Jeffords, a liberal Republican, who became an Independent in 2001 and started caucusing with the Democrats giving them control of the Senate Jeffords received a lot of attention like Manchin. The next years Republicans won control of the Senate and Jeffords faded back into obscurity.
If Manchin runs again in WV he will be a decided underdog in my view.
