Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer just got re-elected…..
That leaves Kristen Gillbrand as the target for the ex-New York State Governor to run against….
Cuomo quit his job in a hail of negatives two years ago…
But those troubles went away with his stepping down….
Cuomo has a sizable political war chest account still and is a much more visible entity than Gillibrand….
While a hard assed , take no prisoners , Governor worked agin st him with party people when he got in trouble….
Cuomo always was able to appeal to voters in runnin g for Attorney General aqnd Governor….
If Donald Trump can try to come back DURING adversity?
Why shouldn’t Cuomo think about a try after things have settled down?
Anyone who has been watching Andrew Cuomo since his August 2021 resignation as Governor of NY can see that he still has the fire in his belly to run for office again. The next question always was, run for what office? Governor Kathy Hochul was just reelected, and a run for President may be too much to ask.
On March 12, The Daily Beast speculated that Cuomo could challenge incumbent democrat U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in a primary next year. Gillibrand was one of many democrats who called for Cuomo to resign in 2021 amid 11 accusations of sexual harassment from former employees.
Several district attorneys in NY looked at the allegations and did not file criminal charges against Cuomo, who has maintained his innocence to the claims of unwanted sexual conversations and some touching.
If Cuomo were to run against Gillibrand, he would have that same number of elected democrats who called for his resignation standing against him, and with Gillibrand.
But perhaps the Cuomo camp is counting on his strong support from black democrats and the 30% or so who supported Andrew to the end, and still do. Is that enough for him to win a democratic primary in progressive NY?
The Daily Beast story, which cited anonymous democrats and Albany insiders, is relevant for two reasons. One source for Jake Lahunt’s story said that they heard Gillibrand telling donors that Cuomo is preparing a challenge against her….
From the NY Post….
In September, Cuomo announced a return to public life following a 13-month, self-imposed exile that began when he resigned rather than face impeachment over sexual harassment allegations and other spiraling scandals.
Cuomo has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
As part of his plan, Cuomo said he was “starting a political action committee to elect the right people to office,” but the Daily Beast said it had yet to be established.
Cuomo is currently hosting a podcast where he’s discussed national issues including the influx of migrants across the southern US border and the recent downing of a Chinese spy balloon after it floated across the country.
A Cuomo rep said of a potential Senate run by the ex-governor, “He has expressed no opinion on the matter, except to say he’s keeping all options open.”
A Gillibrand spokesperson did not immediately return requests for comment.
A rep for the ex-governor, after the Post story posted, insisted that the Cuomo camp did not pitch a Cuomo-Gillibrand battle to media outlets.
“That’s silly and absurd. We didn’t know this Daily Beast story was going until it was posted last night, and then we responded,” said Cuomo spokesman Richard Azzopardi….
Note…
I’m waiting for the polling on this trial ballon…..
Some outfit IS gonna bite….

You’re closer to the ground, James, but to me, A. Cuomo and Kirsten Gillibrand seem to occupy almost exactly the same ground near the right of the Democratic Party consensus, but still not conservatives.
So should he run, Cuomo would have to differentiate himself from the incumbent — would he move left in a (probably futile) appeal to progressives and left-liberals, or right to undercut whatever working-class and small-business support that Sen. Gillibrand enjoys?
Given her record and her position of incumbency, I can’t really see why she would lose to Cuomo: perhaps to a progressive or green Democratic primary candidate, but not to ex-Gov. Cuomo with all his baggage (contrasted to a female veteran who crusaded for women in the armed forces).
This is just my hurried, ignorant analysis: not a campaign pitch for Sen. Gillibrand’s re-election.

Your analysis isn’t bad at all….
Which is why this Daily Beast would seem to be a trial ballon….
The man has HEAVY negatives among the party….
But as we see with Trump?
It’s the VOTERS that count…
One would assume there IS gonna be a poll ran to see if it makes sense….
Something to ponder though….
Andrew Cuomo won THREE terms as Governor and a term as NYS Attoreny General….
He CAN generate votes….
Gillibrand is a Upstate wonder….
She should be worried….

Maybe (considering your other NY election story) we could see what the media would love: a Congressional race between Andrew Cuomo (D) and George Santo (inc., R or more likely Ind.)
Whose baggage would sink them lower than his rival?
jamesb says
I don’t think he’s going to try for Santos’s district….
He’s been a cabinet Sec, AG and a Governor….
I would think Senate or Biden giving him a Sec job…..
We’ll see

I was hardly being serious, James, just fantasizing that Cuomo vs Santos would be an interesting battle of two ambitious but scandal-tinged candidates. Kettle vs Pot.
jamesb says
Cuomo would walk ALL over the guy….
I think this is a lean Democrat district now for 2024

Nothing wrong with NOT being serious and politics
