He put’m there…..
He now is worried about collateral political damage for Republicans from the High Court Ruling….
Is this another one of his fuckups?
The end of the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling was the culmination of decades of work by Republicans and social conservatives — one that came to pass only after a former Democrat from New York who had once supported abortion rights helped muscle through three Supreme Court justices.
Publicly, former President Donald J. Trump heralded the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday ending federal abortion protections as a victory. Yet, as he faces possible prosecution over his efforts to subvert the 2020 election and prepares for a likely 2024 presidential campaign, Mr. Trump has privately told friends and advisers the ruling will be “bad for Republicans.”
When a draft copy of the decision leaked in May, Mr. Trump began telling friends and advisers that it would anger suburban women, a group who helped tilt the 2020 race to President Biden, and would lead to a backlash against Republicans in the November midterm elections.
In other conversations, Mr. Trump has told people that measures like the Texas state law banning most abortions after six weeks and allowing citizens to file lawsuits against people who enable abortions are “so stupid,” according to a person with direct knowledge of the discussions. The Supreme Court let the measure stand in December 2021.
For the first hours after the decision was made public on Friday, Mr. Trump was muted in response, a striking contrast to the conservatives who worked in his administration, including former Vice President Mike Pence. Mr. Pence issued a statement saying, “Life won,” as he called for abortion opponents to keep fighting “in every state in the land.”….
The protest’s have begun….
Will they result in political problems for Republicans come the November Midterm elections?
The OVERALL ‘RIGHTS’ worries are fermenting in the background against the court….
The scene outside the court in the immediate wake of the Dobbs ruling captured Americans’ wildly divergent reactions to a watershed moment in one of the nation’s bitterest debates. Antiabortion activists brimmed with joy at a long-sought legal victory while supporters of abortion rights voiced fury and despair.
“They don’t understand the gravity of this decision,” Tanya Matthews, a 26-year-old from South Carolina who opposed the repeal of Roe, said as she watched antiabortion demonstrators dancing and cracking champagne outside the court on Friday morning. “Just because it’s not legal doesn’t mean it isn’t going to happen.”…
President Biden on the courts ruling….
“This is an extreme and dangerous path the court is now taking us on,” Biden said of the court’s 6-3 decision, which effectively wipes out what had been a constitutional right for more than a half a century.
“It’s a sad day for the court and for the country,” Biden said in remarks from Cross Hall at the White House. “The health and life of women in this nation is now at risk.”
Biden specifically called out the court for completely overturning Roe v. Wade and leaving the decision on abortion rights entirely to the states.
He said this would mean a person who was the victim of rape and incest would not longer be able to get an abortion — unless a state law provides such an exception….
GOP Senator Collins sounds stupid…..
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) on Friday said conservative Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch misled her about their views on the importance of Supreme Court precedent during their confirmation proceedings in 2017 and 2018.
Collins, who voted to confirm then-President Trump’s first two conservative nominees to the court despite her support for abortion rights, has said she believed those justices would hold up important precedents such as Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that established a constitutional right to abortion. A court majority that included Kavanaugh and Gorsuch struck down that right on Friday.
This decision is inconsistent with what Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh said in their testimony and their meetings with me, where they both were insistent on the importance of supporting long-standing precedents that the country has relied upon,” Collins said, explaining her votes for those nominees during the Trump administration.
Collins joined Democrats Friday in denouncing the decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization….

Politics Is Strange Sometimes
Mark Halperin: “Given their histories and orientations, there is an irony in the fact that Joe Biden (who was pro-life and now says he is pro-choice) and Donald Trump (who was pro-choice and now says he is pro-life) are truly in their hearts apparently out of step with their respective parties. Trump is attitudinally more pro-choice than Biden is, actually.”
