Not gonna happen…
But if they keep talking about this?
It will surely help Democrats keep the abortion and ‘Rights’ issue going strong to voters….
Remember….
Republican women get abortions also….
There is even some talk by the crazies of subjecting women and doctors who perform abortions to the death penalty….
Senate Republicans have fought for decades to end Roe v. Wade. Now, with victory in sight, they are discussing whether to pursue nationwide restrictions on abortion if they gain power.
“We need to discuss what the role of the federal government will be in this,” Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa, a member of the Republican leadership, told NBC News. “I know that states will enact different laws — that would likely happen should the deliberations go the way that everybody thinks they will.”
Asked if Congress should restrict legal abortion across the country, Ernst responded: “We’re debating now. We’re going to continue to debate that. I think that’s important that we do that, to debate it.”….

The new discussion in the party comes as Republican-led states advance a host of restrictive laws, some of which would outlaw nearly all abortion, with no exceptions for rape or incest. Oklahoma and Texas have enacted prohibitions on terminating a pregnancy after six weeks. Some state lawmakers are pushing the bounds of the debate, with one Texas Republican calling for a bill that could subject women and doctors who perform abortions to the death penalty….

Holy shit. Louisiana Republicans have voted to advance a bill out of committee making abortion from the moment of fertilization a crime, in which the mother can be charged with homicide.

This will NOT happen….
But Republican’s surely could try….
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said in an interview with USA Today that a national abortion ban is “possible” if Roe v. Wade gets overturned this summer.
“If the leaked opinion became the final opinion, legislative bodies — not only at the state level but at the federal level — certainly could legislate in that area,” McConnell told USA Today when asked if a national abortion ban is “worthy of debate.”
“And if this were the final decision, that was the point that it should be resolved one way or another in the legislative process. So yeah, it’s possible,” he concluded….

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) on Sunday said a national abortion ban floated by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is “inconsistent with what we’ve been fighting for.”
McConnell told USA Today in an interview published on Saturday that a national ban on abortions is “possible” as the country reacts to a draft majority opinion from the Supreme Court that shows the bench poised to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Asked by anchor Martha Raddatz on ABC’s “This Week” if he would oppose a national ban on the medical procedure, Hutchinson said such a move may have “some constitutional issues.”
“I think it’s inconsistent with what we’ve been fighting for four decades, which is that we wanted the Roe v. Wade reversed and the authority to return to the states. And so as a matter of principle, that’s where it should be,” Hutchinson said….

Update on Louisiana ….
Louisiana lawmakers torpedoed legislation on Thursday that would have classified abortion as homicide, overwhelmingly rejecting a proposal with far-reaching implications that included making it possible for prosecutors to bring criminal charges against women who end a pregnancy.
The measure was one of the most aggressive new restrictions on reproductive rights that conservative state lawmakers across the country had considered with the Supreme Court appearing poised to overturn the constitutional right to abortion.
But ultimately, lawmakers upheld what has long been a boundary for many in the anti-abortion movement who have resisted seeking criminal punishment for women who obtain an abortion. The bill disintegrated before reaching a final vote on Thursday after an amendment essentially dismantling it was widely approved by the House of Representatives….
