Democrats are worried about replacing Joe Biden in 2024…
Biden’s approvals are 10% BEHIND his DISAPPROVALS….
They are NOT excited about Kamala Harris running against Trump or DeSantis…
Could a safe white guy…The Governor of Califonia…End up in a battle against the sitting Vice President, the first mixed Black woman, be on the horizon?
That would be hellified primary , eh?
Spliting the progressive and maybe minority Democratic vote….
But?
Harris actually dropped out by the time the California Democratic Presidential primary vote in 2020…
This Washington Post piece done last month has Harris ranked #3 and Newsom # 9….
Several of the people in the ranking inthe Wash Post piece have no chance of being the nominee…
The majority of the primary vote is NOT from progressives , but comes from Blacks and other moderate privary voters….Newsom is perceived as a moderate from a successful state…
Democrat’s and Biden & Co. may not like this…
But it could be comforting to know that there is alternatives to Biden not running and Harris not catching on with voters….
A politican that IS a excutive , NOT a ex- US Senator , certainly not a Real Estate guy with no political or large government experience or trust…But does have the media gusto Biden is sorely lacking…
(Oh, and Califocnia has BILLIONS dollars of surplus in their budget…)
To not acknowledge this is stupidity and dangerous for the countries future…
“Gavin Newsom sounds like a man ready to jump on the next flight to Iowa or New Hampshire or wherever Democrats start their 2024 presidential campaign,” the Los Angeles Times reports.
“Those around Newsom say he has never openly hankered after the White House, and he has apparently never had any sort of in-depth discussion with his political team about running for president. Publicly, he insists nothing could be further from his mind.”
Said Newsom: “Literally 100% never been on my radar.”
Here’s an Op-Ed piece on this subject from out West don in March this year….
Newsom’s edge last fall was almost identical to his winning margin in 2018 and Joe Biden’s advantage over then-President Donald Trump in California. Landslide territory, when about 40% of voters almost always go Republican and 40% Democratic, no matter who the candidates may be. Newsom, then, twice has won over almost every potential swing voter.
That has him looking as safe as any incumbent governor of California ever has, despite a mid-February drop in his job approval ratings. Newsom’s winning vote percentages easily exceed any rung up by Jerry Brown, who four times won easily.
Now focus on the next election beyond this fall, the 2024 race for president. You can bet that despite denials, part of Newsom’s mind is already there.
That run in some ways figures to be the reverse of this year’s California campaign. While Republicans have no significant “bench” in this state, national Democrats are in a similar predicament. Newsom stands alone as about the only politician who could change their situation.

I worked on the unsuccessful State Senate campaign of Gavin Newsom’s father, William Newsom in 1968. It was an uphill campaign against a popular and relatively liberal Republican incumbent, Milton Marks, who later crossed the aisle.
Every day we’d look across Market Street (San Francisco) from Newsom HQ on Market & Haight to see a huge pro-Marks sign on the Plumbers & Steamfitters union offices.
Bill Newsom was later elected to the State Board of Equalization (of local taxes) and retired as a state judge.

You feeling about the son Gavin?
I REALLY wanted a chime in from Keith on a possible Newsom run if need be….

Nearly every California governor is considered presidential timber (which doesn’t answer your question directly):
Earl Warren
Ronald Reagan
Jerry Brown
Arnold Schwarzenegger
