The American President seems to have changed his mind and dug in against the Russian action in the Ukraine…
This IS something to mention…
Joe Biden did NOT want to get Russian President pissed at America and the West….
He wanted, like in Afghanistan, the locals to fight their own battles….
THAT has not worked in the Ukraine where Zelensky , the Uklraine President , has been steadliy on his and other leaders cases asking for help….
THAT has not worked when the media has kept images of bodies lying in the streets…
THAT has not worked as Biden’s handlers show him polling numbers pointing to his ‘leadership’ polling numbers have taken a hit due to his standoffishness in another situation…
Russian President Putin now says he has a ‘victory’ in Mariupol…..
That even as Ukraine forces remain in place there and people are still inplace…
This while the West rushes heavier weapons to the Ukraine military…
And more sanctions are dropped on Russia whose economy is on the way to the toilet ….
Oh, and Germany now says it will stop importing Russian oil….
Biden described the help as the “latest steps we’re taking to support the people of Ukraine and to hold Putin accountable for his brutal and bloody war.”
The latest announcement comes amid what Biden called a “critical window” as Russia prepares for a next phase of war. Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier called his country’s military offensive in the key port city of Mariupol a success, and said he ordered his forces not to storm the plant where pro-Ukrainian troops are stationed and where civilians have sought shelter. Still, he told troops to block the plant so “that even a fly could not get through.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the situation there is “difficult,” and that Russia captured “most of Mariupol long ago” except for the sliver of city where his troops remain.
What else to know
The White House detailed a plan on Thursday to accept as many as 100,000 Ukrainian refugees fleeing violence, making official a pledge announced last month.
The program will go live on Monday, allowing all U.S. citizens to make an application through the Department of Homeland Security to sponsor Ukrainian refugees.
“We are proud to deliver on President Biden’s commitment to welcome 100,000 Ukrainians and others fleeing Russian aggression to the United States,” said Alejandro N. Mayorkas, the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. He said the department would “continue to provide relief to the Ukrainian people, while supporting our European allies who have shouldered so much as the result of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine.”
The announcement provided guidance for Americans on how to sponsor those fleeing the conflict and laid out a host of restrictions for Ukrainian refugees. Applicants must have been residents of Ukraine as of Feb. 11, passed security checks and completed required vaccinations, among other measures. All those who are sponsored are eligible for work authorization….
