Government officials in the Czech Republic are asking its partners in the European Union to send modular housing to shelter 50,000 refugees fleeing Ukraine.
As of Friday, more than 2.5 million people have fled Ukraine since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine, according to U.N. figures. Many initially fled to Hungary, Poland and Romania, but an estimated 200,000 continued westward toward the Czech Republic, according to Reuters.
Czech Interior Minister Vit Rakusan told the news agency CTK that in addition to modular container-based housing, refugees would be sheltered in gyms, halls and tent camps, Reuters reports….

After Putin initially claimed that only professional troops were participating in the invasion, Russia’s Defense Ministry acknowledged this past week that some conscript soldiers were fighting in the war. The British Ministry of Defense suggested that this is a sign of how worn down the Russian troops are in the third week of the invasion.
“As losses mount, Russia will be forced to draw on alternative sources to reinforce their overstretched regular forces,” the agency wrote….
