Donald Trump maybe ‘the second coming’ to some Republicans….
But the fact is the 2024 Republican President nomination race IS on….
Donald Trtump HAS challengers who are settling in place waiting for him fall…..
He DID LOSE in 2020…..
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is the clear favourite behind Trump….
Who will Conservatives support in the end?
The simmering tensions between former President Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) are looming over the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), where both men are set to give highly anticipated speeches later this month.
With Trump eyeing a political comeback and DeSantis seen as a potential contender for the 2024 GOP presidential bid, the high-profile gathering in Orlando, Fla., offers a prime opportunity to take the temperature of the Republican base and pitch their political brands to the conservative activists and leaders who will play a major role in boosting the party’s next presidential nominee.
But the conference also has the potential to highlight — and possibly even deepen — the emerging divide between Trump and DeSantis, stirring both worry and intrigue within the GOP.
“I think he definitely feels threatened by the governor,” one GOP donor, who has given to both Trump and DeSantis, said of the former president. “I can’t necessarily blame him, because there are a lot of people right now who are very interested in what Ron DeSantis has to say, and I think that’s especially true at CPAC.”
Trump has griped behind the scenes for months about DeSantis’s rapid political rise, including chatter about a future White House bid. Fueling the complaints is the Florida governor’s apparent refusal to say publicly that he won’t challenge Trump in 2024 should the former president mount another campaign for the White House….

If Desantis were to were to run and defeat Trump for the Republican nomination his victory may be hollow indeed. The nomination fight would be brutal.
How many people here think Trump would simply go to the convention ,raise DeSantis’s arm in triumph and fade gently into that good night?
Yeah riiight!
Instead ,Trump would accuse the Republican Party of all sorts of treachery. He would denounce Desantis as having stolen the nomination from him.His domestic terrorist supporters would show up at the convention in what could be replay of Chicago in 68.
Recent polls show that almost 40% of admitted Republicans say they identify more with Trump than the Republican Party .A schism would be inevitable. With Trump or his designate as leader of these disaffected Republicans. With Trumps supporters already organized getting on the ballot in almost every state would be relatively easy
The campaign would be a bloodbath with Trump denouncing the RINOs that stole the nomination from him.Indeed his entire campaign would be to exact vengeance on Desantis .
It could easily be rerun of 1912 where Teddy Roosevelt on the Bull Moose ticket actually got more votes than Taft, the Republican incumbent.
A fantasy you say?Sure, for now.
But something similar has to be on Desantis and his supporters mind.In essence, if Trump runs and the Republicans don’t nominate him? They are going to be in a Hell of a position.

Just imagine Trump DEMANDING that Merrick Garland investigate criminal fraud in the Florida government.
And who knows in that case where Marco Rubio (and for that matter Jeb Bush) would stand?

Good points. Remember Trump didn’t take losing the 2016 Iowa caucuses to Ted Cruz gracefully.
But back then a lot of folks (myself included) expected he would eventually lose the nomination and sulk away from politics.
If Trump is indeed contested and loses primaries in 2024 no chance he just walks away. He’ll throw a fit and threaten to run 3rd Party for sure. I wouldn’t be surprised if the GOP fearing a certain loss in that case simply shuts the primaries down and declares Trump the nominee.
I mean when an insurrection is “legitimate discourse” what would be so crazy about canceling party primaries?

AND IN DOING SO?
TRY IN HIS RAGE TO TEAR THE ASS OUT OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY….
HE ONLY CARES ABOUT ONE THING
DONALD J. TRUMP…
This is NOT New….
This IS just who he is.….

We have no election law experts here, but my distinct impression is that different state laws and different state constitutions treat the primary process differently.
In some cases, they (like, say, the Iowa caucuses) are largely administered by the party as an essentially internal matter, which would give Trumpite GOP’s the power to just replace primaries with votes of the State Committee, or to a convention independent of state laws.
But even the conceit of a private club (or a very small party such as Prohibition or some of the socialist parties) is limited. Long, long ago, Negroes could not vote in many Southern Democratic primaries, on the theory of a private club’s power to control admissions, but the Supreme Court struck down the White Primary as a violation of equal protection and the 15th Amendment.
In other states, I think the primary process is not governed by a state’s constitution, but by general legislation, which would leave a Trumpistical state legislature able to cancel and replace primaries with another way to elect delegates. Perhaps that’s what happened in the 2020 nomination process.
And primaries are, as we all know, not the only way to choose delegates that a national convention will seat. Among Democrats, one alternative is caucuses. Fifty or sixty years ago, only about half the states chose delegates in primaries, rather than through a party state committee or through a pyramid of state conventions, county conventions, and town or legislative district conventions.

Morning Bdog….
State voting for primaries ARE controlled by yhe national parties….
The GOP I believe. Votes as a group to accept any major changes …
The internal of who count votes I suppose is up to the state
My feeling is just like with Trump’s BS?
No judge or court is gonna entertain so system that negates the process of actual votes being set aside for those who want ‘their guy’….
Let’s not forget..
Establishment civil servants actually run election’s
Been doing it since when
Despite the Trump crying?
They did their jobs pretty damn good last election
This year and 2024?
They will do so again
Despite all the media ‘hair on fire’
Bull Shit?
America’s political system IS STRONG….
THAT Donald Trump is won’t stop crying about…

Interestingly, until the early seventies the Democratic primary voting precincts in Charleston were referred to as “Club 1,Club 2, etc.”
My father told me that such was a relic of the old White Primary days where ,in order to vote in the Democratic primary which was tantamount to election, one had to sign up on the “club book.”
Blacks weren’t allowed to join the “club.”
