Now we KNOW the President and his people are scrambling to recover from the shit sandwich he’s been given by Democratic Senator’s Manchin and Sinema…..
Biden has NOT held many formal press conferences….
He tends to be absent in the media something the last few President’s have not done….
They better prep him well…..
The media will be looking pile up on his misfortune with Democratic political blood in the water….
President Joe Biden will hold a news conference on Wednesday afternoon, the eve of the one-year anniversary of his inauguration.
The news conference comes as Biden is attempting to salvage his voting rights initiative and economic agenda, both of which lack the votes to move forward in the evenly-split Senate.
His administration is confronting a pandemic that has continued despite the majority of adults being vaccinated and high inflation that has eroded public support for the president.
Biden has held just nine news conferences so far during his first year, substantially fewer than his past five predecessors. He’s done just 22 interviews. However, there have been at least 216 informal sessions where he answered questions after giving remarks or while traveling and walking past a waiting group of reporters…..

The President will step before the media today in one his rare sessions

And the Biden presser is on…
jamesb says
“Your spending package, voting rights legislation, they’re not going anywhere.”
Biden: “That’s true.”

Meanwhile?
Manchin is about to give a speech to the Senate
Sinema gave her’s last week
CG says
I am pretty sure Manchin will wait until after the presser.
If not, that’s pretty aggressive on his part. Then again, he was recently called Bull Connor and Jefferson Davis.
CG says
I take it back. Manchin is on CSPAN 2 right now.

He should have stopped at least a half hour ago. It is amazing that nobody on the staff is there to get him to stop.
Any “regular person” who might have started watching it is not watching it. I do not think it is an impressive performance, but that’s just my view. We will see if any polls change.. or maybe the polls are just all “fake.”
CG says
Now, Biden refuses to say whether or not the results of the 2022 elections may be fair and accurate.
Serious deja vu.
CG says
Biden- “I don’t believe polls.”
How very Trumpian.
CG says
Biden keeps saying he doesn’t know what the Republicans’ agenda is..
Why doesn’t he call them? Why doesn’t he schedule a meeting with them? They are saying he has never even tried to call them.
CG says
First take from CNN after marathon press conference ends:
“There’s a lot to clean up now.”
CG says
I was multitasking between working and talking on here while trying to listen and he seems to have really, really messed up on what he said about Russia.
Scott P says
So CG. If any 7p yr old African Americans who have voted Democrat all their adult life are on here do you think that are on a “Plantation”?
Yes or no.
Simple question.
CG says
Depends on their reasoning. It’s FAR less about voting habits. I have no issue with someone being a partisan voter. I sure never thought I would ever vote for a Democrat and frankly I do not want to vote for a Democrat again.
I feel like Republicans have long needed to make a better effort in trying to appeal to the black vote. Many, including my particular Republican favorites have agreed with me, but the party label is very bad. I think Trump made it worse, but still actually made some progress with black and Hispanic voters during his reelection.
But you, as a middle aged privileged white male, believe that all Republicans are always bad and all Democrats are always good. As I said, that makes you different.
A Democrat politician could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue and I think you would say it was ok, as long as they were an vaccinated Republican.
Scott P says
Gutless coward.
Scott P says
Atop thinking about me for a minute. Would you ever tell an African American they are “on a Plantation” for how they think or vote.
This has nothing to do witg me and how partisan you think I am.
CG says
I’d use the same analogy (though I think cult comparisons are perhaps more accurate) to an African-American who thinks exactly as you do, but I don’t think there are many of them that do, or many people in general that do.
If you really think about it though, the analogy means you are an unwitting victim.
CG says
I have heard African-American conservatives use the same analogy for a very long time usually in responses to white liberals.
I guess if I was black, Scott would have to be more accepting of me using it.
CG says
As I have said, it’s not about voting. If someone wants to vote for one party their entire life, that is absolutely their right.
Again, it’s about sharing your belief that one party is always wrong, no exceptions, and one party can be excused for anything, no matter what. It does not seem like you think for yourself but just act based on whatever talking points you get in your email inbox every morning.
So, if “plantation” bothers you so much, I will switch to “Jonestown.”
Scott P says
It’s not about bothering me. It’s about whether you would tell an African American he ot she was “on a Plantation” to their face?
Your non answer and attempts to muddy the argument yells me you sure as shit would not.
Everything I’ve said about you I would feel comfortable saying to an African American conservative Republican. And vice versa
Can you say the same?
CG says
Nothing on blogs are said “to their face.” There is a much larger issue there about political discourse. But I have discussed politics with African-Americans in person before, some who agree with me, some who do not. It has always been very civil.
I don’t think you would tell me or anyone else to “die in a fire” to my face. I don’t think you would threaten to beat me up or whatever you once said on a drunken late night post on here to my face. I don’t think you would talk about “dead Republicans” in front of their family members, etc.
But since Rush Limbaugh is dead, I do think the cemetery should have a photo of you in case you and your bladder try to show up.
CG says
and of course Scott, even though you may not have been the one to say it, have defended the idea of my being compared to a Nazi sympathizer on here by one particular poster for almost 10 years now, even though I think you are aware I happen to be Jewish,,,, (not that it’s fair to say it to a non-Jewish person either simply because they voted for Mitt Romney)
Scott P says
I long since apologized for that comment I made in 2004. If you are making an analogy you must believe it would be wrong to tell an African American you disagree with that he or she is “on a Plantation”.
And I admitted to being drunk when I typed it. So what?
CG says
The point is that lots of things get said on here or other blogs or Facebook, Twitter, whatever, that people would not necessarily say in person.
But a “plantation” analogy is valid, based upon someone’s mindset. There are also other valid analogies. If I pissed you off, I accomplished my internet objective. For better or worse, that’s the way it works online across the board.
Scott P says
All I asked is if you would use the “on the Plantation” analogy with an African American as freely as you have with me. Several times now. It’s a simple question.
CG says
On a blog probably, but they would have to share the same characteristics as you which lead me to use the analogy.
In person, less likely regardless of the race of the other person, but not because I think I am going to get punched.
I also don’t think Joe Biden would call any Republican Senator (or for that matter the two in his party) a Bull Connor or a George Wallace or a Jefferson Davis is a private conversation away from cameras. But in a speech designed to appeal to his base solely for political reasons, he did.
I think Biden would tried to make friends with Wallace in the 70s, if both were in the Senate, as he admitted he was friends with several segregationists.
Keith says
Actually, I will be home in Chicago this June. Perhaps Corey would like to join me down on 63rd Street on the South Side and he can tell several of my black friends that they have been down on the Plantation all these years by voting Democratic. I want to see their response.
Zreebs says
the only thing I remember about Paul is that a former p1 poster who has since changed his name once mocked him for being obese.
Scott P says
CG–“If I pissed you off, I accomplished my internet objective”
And this guy says he isn’t a Trump Republican.
He didn’t piss me off. He just proved that the late Paul Falduto who used to post on P1 was right. He’s a snake.
Won’t admit he’s wrong even when he knows he is. Won’t apologize, deflects. A snake in the grass.
CG says
When did you become such a delicate flower?
You like to dish it out, but you can’t take it, sort of like Trump.
Paul and I got along very well offline the last times we corresponded.
Keith says
Actually Paul would agree that anyone that talks about being down on the Plantation is a serious racist. I know Paul, he thinks you’re a joke Corey Gross.
But, this is just so much more bullshit Corey. Trying to change the subject again? These racist tropes are just that — racist. What do we call someone who exclusively votes Republican their entire life? A middle aged Republican?
Tonight the Republicans, all 50 of those assholes, voted against enhanced voter protection. Both Martin Luther King and George Romney are rolling in their graves tonight over that fact that Saint Mitt voted the Party line. The Republicans, along with two Democrats, voted against open and increased access to voting rights.
As Mitch McConnell once said, “when everyone votes, we lose.” He was serious and afraid. Our friend Corey Gross is afraid, afraid the black folks might vote.
How anyone can say that the Republicans aren’t focused on voter suppression is beyond me and every other political observer I know. The fact that Corey insists on denying this fact is beyond the point. It only proves that he is willing to adhere to the Trump agenda.
His Party’s next Presidential nominee.

I don’t believe so.

This brings up the incident from the George H.W. Bush Administration.
Fortney “Pete” Stark, a white liberal Congressman from California said that Dr. Louis Sullivan, the Secretary of Health and Human Services at the time, was a “disgrace to his race.”
Sullivan responded that he “does not live on Pete Stark’s plantation.” Good for him. Stark was incredibly out of line, though some here might defend it.
When Ben Carson (whom I am not a great fan of), gets called “Uncle Ben” by one particular poster, that is definitely a racist comment with racist intent, but the other liberals seem more than ok with overlooking it.
CG says
Dr. Sullivan was black, in case that was not clear.
CG says
In terms of the blog, I’ve been pretty harsh on james over the years and I believe he might be African-American. Ultimately, that should not matter and of course should be about the content of one’s character.
My Name Is Jack says
Why would you think James is African American?
I’ve never read anything he posted here to indicate that.
Then again, I don’t communicate with him on a “back channel,”:nor serve as his “attack dog” when he whines to you about me or some other poster giving him Hell.I see you were on Zreebs case earlier for his criticisms of James for some of his usual lying.
Amusingly, only a week ago, you were in such a rage at his lying that you announced you had “screenshot” his posts because he was removing them.In other words, he was “lying.”
Scott P says
I have no idea of James ethnicity but I notice that CG didn’t say he was “on the Plantation”– and James has probably voted for more Democrats and over a longer period of time than me. Hmm.
Ghost of SE says
Biden should try hashing it out with Mitt and Murkowski on voting rights and BBB. Cut the balls off of Manchin and Sinema and actually achieve something with all of this.
Scott P says
More muddying the waters. J don’t care that CG said that *I* am “on a Plantation” for voting mostly Democratic over the last 20 years. My question was a simple yes or no–would he say the same thing to me if I were African-American.
That he can’t simply say “yes” shows that he wouldn’t.
That he can’t simply say “no” shows that he also can’t admit he’s wrong.
Simple as that.

James’s surname is a prominent Scottish name, although that by itself is not proof of his ancestry. I don’t recall if James ever talked about his mom’s side, or even his dad’s side,
