Manchin talking to other Democrats about possible small Senate rules changes….

He’s dancing around things….

Most Democratic Senator’s do NOT want to get rid of the filibuster process in the Senate…

They are well aware it could be their friend come next year if they are the minority party in the US Senate…

But?

There IS YUGE pressure on the party to drop the rule, as has been done in the past by BOTH parties, to get a vote on a voting rights bill to counter Republican grassroots efforts to co-op Red state voting systems…

The media does NOT let people know that contrary to the progressive’s crying about the West Virginia Democratic Senator?

He almost ALWAYS votes with Democrats….

And he will find a way I’d bet to help President Biden get a social spending bill pasted and get some kind of voting bill at least up for a vote…

Joe Manchin is actually NOT the Democratic bad guy he’s portrayed as in the media….

And he has company in his party in Congress….

Sen. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) on Tuesday night floated smaller changes to the Senate rules that would stop short of the filibuster reforms being pushed for by many of his Democratic colleagues.

Manchin, coming out of a meeting with Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and other Democrats involved in the negotiations, didn’t pledge to vote for any specific rules reforms but appeared open to smaller changes.

“I think the filibuster needs to stay in place, any way, shape or form that we can do it,” Manchin said, asked about keeping the current rule that requires most legislation to get 60 votes to advance through the Senate….

Supporters of a talking filibuster want to structure it so that opponents can delay a bill for as long as they can hold the Senate floor. But after they are done talking senators would then be able to pass a bill with a simple majority, effectively nixing the current 60-vote threshold required for most bills to advance in the Senate.

But Manchin indicated that he still wants to keep a supermajority requirement to end debate, but that he was supportive of changing it from requiring 60 votes needed to break a filibuster to three-fifths of senators present and voting. Under that shift, senators could break a filibuster with fewer than 60 votes if there were absences.

“It puts pressure on both sides,” Manchin said. “I’m for three fifths, voting. … That to me makes a lot of sense.”…

    Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said it is “surreal” and “beyond distasteful” for Senate Democrats to cite the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol as an excuse to weaken the filibuster to pass broad elections reforms, Politico reports.

    Said McConnell: “It is surreal to hear sitting senators invoke January the sixth to justify breaking the rules to grab outcomes they have not earned. It is surreal to hear sitting senators invoke January the sixth to argue that institutions can be trampled because they’d like a different result.”

    Ah, Mitch?
