Michigan’s Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer is polling pretty damn strong to keep her job come next year….

49 or 50 for an incumbent at this point, months before a crowded primary to pick an opponent is are pretty middling numbers historically.
This would indicate she will have a competitive race.
This poll does show her at 56% JA which seems to be somewhat of a surprising jump up for her. That is a few points better than the topline numbers.
A lot of voters seem to be keeping an open mind as to whether she should be reelected, but the JA numbers are pretty decent at least in this one poll.
Things like Covid, the economy, crime, and school shutdowns could wind up problematic for all sorts of incumbents though of the President’s party in a midterm.
If she doesn’t get kidnapped by redneck Republicans.
