Prior to Thanksgiving virus cases had been going down…
Post holiday numbers seemed a bit suspect due to reporting from the states…
But?
It does now appear that there IS a spike upward in case, hospital stays and deaths…
The spike is not as severe as the last two, and it involves the Delta variant it appears…
The Omicron variant is being discovered around the world…
But while it’s more contagious …
It seems to have milder symptom’s….
If this follows other spikes?
It will last for about 60 days and then subside….
The National Guard has been asked to help staff hospitals in at least four states as another virus surge is overstretching healthcare systems and straining overtaxed workers.
On Thursday, the largest hospital network in Indiana announced that it had asked the Guard for assistance for most of its hospitals. Hospitalizations in the state have increased 49 percent over the past two weeks, according to data from The New York Times.
Six-person teams with both medical support and non-clinical members will deploy to Indiana University Health across the state in two-week increments. All Guard members are fully vaccinated, the statement said.
“The demand and strain on IU Health’s team members, nurses and providers has never been greater,” the hospital system said in a statement.
New Hampshire and Maine took similar measures on Wednesday.
In New Hampshire, 70 National Guard members will be deployed the next few weeks to help hospitals with nonmedical functions like food service and clerical work. On top of that, Gov. Chris Sununu said at a news conference, the Federal Emergency Management Agency was dispatching a team of 24 people to assist the hardest-hit facilities.
More than 55,000 coronavirus patients are hospitalized nationwide, far fewer than in September, but an increase of more than 20 percent over the past two weeks, according to a New York Times database.
The United States is averaging over 121,300 cases a day, an increase of about 27 percent from two weeks ago. Reported deaths are up 12 percent, to an average of about 1,275 per day….
Note…
I have been hesitant to trust the ‘reported’ data from the NY Times and Wash Post, the two place I HAVE used for almost a year because their numbers are so widely different since the Thanksgiving Holiday….But antidotal stories like the one linked above have been reported…The Omicron ‘Hair on Fire’ coverage has also led me to question the media views of the virus situation across the country also…
It does appear that Americans HAVE decided to go back to some sort of ‘normal’ thinking that things are a bit better then they are….
Some forgetting that shot’s do NOT stop the two main Covid strains, they merely cut back the symptoms and that masks and distancing ARE still very effective across the board….

In other words, you have finally faced reality rather than the fantasy world you invented which directly contradicted the actual facts.
Better late than never I guess.

The numbers HAVE been and still are a bit scrambled…..
As I point out….
Views on the ground in the linked piece ARE what I’m acknowledging….
And?
The crazy assed numbers from last week HAVE come back down…
Better to have some reality so there is less of a guess….

BREAKING: The earliest U.S. omicron cases were in vaccinated people who had mild illnesses, with only one hospitalization and no deaths so far, the CDC says https://trib.al/mXyKee5
My Name Is Jack says
What the CDC has done with this insignificant survey of 40 people is giving ammunition to the anti vaxxers .See ,they’ll say ,only vaccinated people are getting Omicron. What kind of idiocy is this?40 people ?This directly contradicts the numbers coming out of South Africa .
This doesn’t even make any sense.
jamesb says
And THAT would be stupid…….
Yes it does appear that omicron does infect people with shots
But every covid virus
The shot dies what it’s suppose to do
Tamp down the body response
So far
Again
Indications are that across the board no one has gotten servously sick
My Name Is Jack says
I’m well aware of that.
But they way they’ve worded it, an anti Vaxxervcould use that to mean that only vaccinated peopkev are getting this new variant which of course is manifestly untrue.
What they should have done is compared vaccinated and unvaccinated people .

Pragmatism…..
The Los Angeles school district is poised to back down from its Jan. 10 student COVID-19 vaccine deadline, confronted with more than 30,000 students 12 and older who are not fully vaccinated and would otherwise be barred from campus. Plans call for suspending the deadline until fall of 2022, a significant step back in a mandate among the strictest in the nation….

Smart Judge….
Roberts Refuses to Block Mask Mandate for Airlines
“Chief Justice John Roberts rejected an emergency request to block the federal mask mandate for air travel while challenges to it moved forward,” the New York Times reports.
“The chief justice did not ask for a response to the application for emergency relief or refer the application to the full Supreme Court, and he gave no reasons for his ruling. Those were all signs that he viewed the legal question in the case as insubstantial.”

Media tabs on virus numbers coming down
Wash Post has drops….7 day average.
NY Times double digits climbs…But they are 14 days I believe…..
This could indicate that this spike maybe going down already…..
