As the world experiences new, more transmissible Covid-19 variants, scientists and health officials in the U.S. are still struggling to gather accurate and timely domestic data to help inform policy decisions to safeguard Americans.
Continuing gaps in the CDC’s data collection program, which almost two years into the pandemic still relies on state health departments who use a mix of often incompatible and outdated state systems to identify cases, impedes the nation’s understanding of where and how fast the virus is spreading, according to more than a dozen state and federal officials involved in tracking cases.
The fact that the data gaps have been apparent since the start of the pandemic makes the lack of substantial improvement particularly galling to many infectious disease specialists.
“I think we’ve done a horrible job from day one in data tracking for the pandemic,” said Eric Topol, a professor of molecular medicine at Scripps Research and former advisory board member of the Covid Tracking Project, a team that worked to collect and synthesize local Covid-19 during the peak of the pandemic. “We’re not tracking all the things that we need to to get a handle on what’s going on. It is embarrassing.”
Meanwhile, other Western countries have tapped into their modern health systems that can easily track patient data and seamlessly share epidemiologic information across a broad spectrum of health care facilities and public health departments. Because of the lack of accurate and timely domestic data, Biden health officials over the last eight months have increasingly relied on international sources to respond to domestic surges in part because they believe the information is more reliable, the officials said….

Back to the GOP’s culture of death, Fox News host Jesse Watters recommended a kill shot to Dr. Fauci for his work on encouraging vaccinations. to the best of my knowledge Watters is not even being disciplined.
Now we will hear that the left is just as bad or worse.
Watters made those comments at Turning Point USA–the gathering of right wing Republicans where Sarah Palin said she’d never get vaccinated and encouraged others to “stiffen their spines” against those who want to stop the virus.
While there may be plenty wrong with what Watters said and how he said it, like is often the case on here, the above post is severely lacking in fact.
He was not talking about vaccinations at all but about “gain of function research” which I do not really even understand the conspiracy theory that people on the right are on with it, it is something very different.
The “kill shot” rhetoric is way out of line in my view, but of course he was not being literal, but was speaking metaphorically in regards to people asking him tough questions. When these sort of things are said on the left, people on here go to great lengths to defend them.

When Maxine Waters says things involving confronting political opponents, she is being figurative and should be excused for her passion but the similarly named Jesse Watters is held to a different standard.

But since you asked, The establishment GOP puts gun ownership over all other tights. It supports military excursions abroad such as Iraq that destroyed a country and killed many Americans for no valid reason. All establishment Republicans supported the Iraq war. Establishment Republicans support massive deficit spending and reallocating wealth so that the wealthy gets a greater share. After all, why shouldn’t Mitt Romney have car elevators at all of his houses? The GOP establishment wants to do nothing about global warming other than building oil pipelines over sensitive areas, subsidizing coal and let Americans pay the price later in multiple ways.

I had not heard about that reason for the car elevator? Was the reason Romney added a second floor to the house and substantially increased its square footage was so that his wife could do more walking to get around the house?
I just replied to your question. Sorry you consider it an angry rant. I Think you are upset that I don’t see your values as morally defensible. I never have, but at some level you already knew that. There are some issues (including some of the BBB proposals that I think a strong moral case can be made for each side, but I just don’t feel that way about every issue including the ones I mentioned in the previous post.
