This was to be expected….
The same will be for the Biden Build Back Better money….
In the American post Trump political world?
The ‘deal’ is you talk against Biden and Democrats getting ya the money….
As you take it and spend it and tag it as your own effort…
Thus biting the hand that is feeding ya and getting away with it….
And Democrats just remain mute…
Republican leaders across the country have been engaged in a similarly awkward dance over the past few months as they accept — and often champion — money from the $350 billion bucket of state and local aid included in the stimulus bill, which passed Congress without a single Republican vote. In some states, like Ohio and Arizona, Republican governors are spending the funds while attempting to undercut the law that allowed the money to flow. Other governors are faulting Congress for not giving their state enough money.
And, like their counterparts in Congress, many Republicans have blasted Mr. Biden’s stimulus bill for fueling inflation, even as they take the funds, and criticized Democrats for pushing for additional government spending plans.
“I urge President Biden and Democrats in D.C. to turn off the spigot of out-of-control spending and get inflation under control,” said Gov. Greg Gianforte, Republican of Montana, whose state has used some of its $906 million in stimulus money to invest in nursing homes and return-to-work bonuses.
Gov. Ron DeSantis, Republican of Florida, complained last week that the federal formula for allocating money to states based on their jobless rate had essentially penalized Florida for not imposing lockdowns and allowing businesses to remain open during the pandemic.
“I think you’d have to acknowledge that we got the short end of the stick compared to these other states,” Mr. DeSantis said.
Florida, which was allotted a total of $8.8 billion, has so far received about $3.4 billion, which Mr. DeSantis said would go toward infrastructure, transportation and work force retention. The governor justified keeping the money by arguing that the federal government fueled economic disruption with shutdowns and vaccine and mask mandates that he opposed.
Despite his complaints, the cash cushion could help Florida build as much as $17 billion in reserves by the end of next year, according to Mr. DeSantis, and allow the state to afford to pay for priorities that are unrelated to the pandemic….

The Tories are set to lose their majority in the next British general election, with a number of notable Conservative MPs set to lose their seats, according to new analysis.
The polling, carried out by political consultancy Electoral Calculus and pollster Find Out Now, was based on over 10,200 respondents, carried out between 29 November and December 1. The poll found that if a general election were held now, the Tories would fall 38 seats short of a majority.
The Conservatives have a lead over Labour of only 1 percent, which is down from 4 percent from a similar poll for the Telegraph in September, and significantly down from 13pc in May. The poll puts the Tories on 36 percent while Labour are on 35 percent, the Lib Dems on 11 percent. The Greens and SNP [Scottish National Party] are on 8 percent and 5 percent respectively.
Although the Conservatives would still have the highest number of seats with 288, it would mean that they would’ve lost 77 seats while the Labour Party on 271, would’ve gained 68 seats. The Liberal Democrats would also lose 3 seats, down to 8 from 11 in 2019, while the Greens would still only have 1 seat in Parliament….
https://leftfootforward.org/2021/12/tories-set-to-lose-their-majority-according-to-new-poll/
After the shock Lib Dem by-election win in North Shropshire, where the party overturned a 23,000 majority to defeat the Tories, some are calling for a formal progressive alliance to help oust the Tories at the next general election.
Although the Labour Party came second in 2019 and the Lib Dems came from third to topple the Tories, some have taken the tactical voting that took place in the by-election as proof that the only way to defeat the Tories is through a progressive alliance.
Neal Lawson, Director of Compass, the pressure group campaigning for a progressive alliance, said: “This is a good day for all progressives. Voters have formed an alliance and are way ahead of the politicians in wanting a change of government and politics.’
‘But what is given in by-elections is often taken away in generals unless progressive parties learn to work more effectively together.
‘Labour was playing with fire in this by-election. The party locally ignored the quiet deal that Keir Starmer [Labour Party leader] and Ed Davey [LDP leader] had clearly done – and could have split the vote to disastrous effect. In a general election, splitting the progressive vote is the Tories best hope of staying in power.
‘In 1997 Labour and the Liberal Democrats worked successfully together. Today the electoral mountain is much steeper. We need 1997-plus levels of cross-party working, but we are getting 1997-minus.
‘The electoral map is crystal clear. The Lib Dems are second in 80 Tory seats. They and Labour have no fight with each other.
‘The two parties need to create a national mood that it’s time for change and then get out of each other’s way.’…

Old neighborhood in Donald Payne’s district but of course living in luxury in the suburban district of Mikkie Sherril.

Unlike you, I recognize from living in NJ a lot of the areas shown on the Sapranos, and it is a lot more than Hudson County. There are scenes from Essex, Middlesex, Passaic, Union and Bergen Counties, and at least a couple of south NJ counties. When they reference streets on the show, I almost always know where they are. And yes they are dispropttionately in the Hudson County, and Sires district includes the poorer section of Newark and Belleville (Hudson County)where there were a lot of scenes from the Sapranos.
Tony Sapronas actual home I think is in North Caldwell. I don’t recall how I new that, but I think you are right that it is in Sherrill’s district.
CG says
Sopranos live in Essex County. Newark is in Essex County.
Sires’ district is primarily Hudson County.
Here’s a pretty extensive list of every place ever to be on the show:

Edie Falco (Carmela Soprano) more recently played Hillary Clinton on the FX “Impeachment” series which I also watched.
She’s a great actress but it was virtually impossible to separate the two roles at times. The scene where Hillary got furious and swore and threw things at Bill over Monica Lewinsky was indistinguishable from the scene of the Sopranos where Carmela got furious, swore, and threw things at Tony over the one-legged Russian.
Scott P says
I recently re watched the series too and have been listening to the Talking Sopranos podcast.

Pretty appropriate that AJ Soprano wanted to work for Trump. Member of a crime family, not too bright. It makes sense.

Thank you for confirming the many locations on the Sopranos that is nowhere near Essex County, including so many of those Kersey City (Hudson County) locations in Sires district, A look at Sires district shows that it includes parts of Essex Couny including the poorer sections of Newark and most if not all of Belleville, both prominent locations on the Sopranos.. I enjoy it when CG proves he is wrong by providing a link.
The Pulaski highway featured on the beginning of the show is mostly Jersey City, although I think the less scenic part of that multi-mile bridge is in Essex County.
Although the city of Nutley (Essex County)is continually referenced in the Sopranos, and at least two of the shows’s mobsters were said to be living there, none of the show was filmed in Nutley because the city of Nutley (which has a large Italian American community) did not want itself to be associated with the mafia, requested there be no filming there.
Interestingly, there still is a remnants of a real mafia in Nutley, albeit one much less powerful than on the Sapranos. One of my coworkers has some good stories of him running into “Jimmy the boot” at a restaurant.
CG says
The main setting was Essex County and the Newark region. The new prequel movie is called “Many Saints of Newark.” It was where the main characters lived and the supposed location of most of the locales. Sometimes, they filmed things outside of Essex County even though it was supposed to take place in Essex County.
The Pine Barrens episode (supposedly South Jersey) was filmed in Upstate New York.
I would think the “poorer section” of Newark would be mostly in Donald Payne’s district. Newark would make up a very small portion of Sires’ district.
CG says
Thank goodness no.

Who is he then to “ define” who is or is not a Republican ?These domestic Terrorists were the epitome of Republicans. Many traveled hundreds of miles at the behest of the Republican President ( whom CG didn’t vote for) in an effort to steal the election for the Republican Party.
He has also stated in the past they he would never support anyone who supported Trump( which eliminates about 95% of the Republican candidates throughout the country).
CG can play in his fantasy world if he wants but the Republican Party has moved on.Trumpism is now the overwhelmingly dominant philosophy and people like Desantis, Cruz, Hawley, Cotton, McCarthy MTG ( Trumpites one and all) are now the face and voice of the party .
Indeed, he is now ,in the parlance of the new Republican Party , a RINO.
CG says
jack has some confusion here that I hope I can clarify.
I never would have said that I would never in the future vote for anyone who had supported Trump. Of course it also has to be noted that unlike myself, he has already voted for pro-Trump Republicans where he lives. I would not have cast those votes for the red-hat wearing candidates he did, but I understand his reasons for doing so.
To be as succinct as possible, I would not vote for a candidate who was running a Trumpist campaign. However, it would be a bad idea to rule out anybody who had (mistakenly in my view) voted for Trump in the past. While I had never supported Trump, even for one solitary moment, of course, even Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger had supported him at one time.
CG says
and the Trump cultists don’t even call me a RINO at this point. I would be called a Democrat or a socialist.
Just like for years on this site I have been compared to a Nazi sympathizer on here by a prominent poster with the most minimal of pushback from others.
All of these things are of course is ridiculous, but most things said by political tribalists, especially online, on both sides are ridiculous.
CG says
In terms of “definitions”, it is not really all that complicated.
Yes, Trump ran as a Republican and received strong support from Republicans. There are many factors that can be considered regarding that. You all should know my views on that matter.
However, not all Republicans supported Trump and not all Trump supporters are Republicans.
It should not be hard to accept both facts. Some though have had a personal reflexive interest in fighting Republicans for over 50 years, going long back before Trump, or including the times when Trump himself was a Democrat, so these attack lines get blurred and presented in a way that is not fully accurate.
Zreebs says

Winter begins as of tomorrow which gives us the less among of Sun light during the day for the year…….
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Wrong, James, completely wrong.
While meteorological Winter (= what everyone else calls winter) began in December and continues into February, the (astronomical) Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year, i.e. the day with the least sunshine in the Northern Hemisphere. After tomorrow, we’ll see a few MORE minutes of sunlight every day for six months until the Summer Solstice (Midsummer’s Day) on or around June 21st, after which daylight starts again to diminish.
In between are the two midpoints in this cycle when day and night last an equal number of hours: the Spring or Vernal Equinox (Latin for “equal night”) around March 21st, and the Autumnal Equinox around September 21st.
Even though we’re entering the coldest months and weeks of the year, there’s a very good reason that many religions and cultures have Festivals of Light around this time (e.g. Christmas, Diwali and Têt) — the return of the sun from its longest daily absence suggests rebirth.
jamesb says
Hmmmmmm?
The winter solstice, also called the hiemal solstice, hibernal solstice, and brumal solstice, occurs when either of Earth’s poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. This happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere (Northern and Southern). For that hemisphere, the winter solstice is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky.[3] Either pole experiences continuous darkness or twilight around its winter solstice. The opposite event is the summer solstice. Depending on the hemisphere’s winter solstice, at the Tropic of Cancer or Capricorn, the Sun reaches 90° below the observer’s horizon at solar midnight, to the nadir.
The winter solstice occurs during the hemisphere’s winter. In the Northern Hemisphere, this is the December solstice (usually December 21 or 22) and in the Southern Hemisphere, this is the June solstice (usually June 20 or 21). Although the winter solstice itself lasts only a moment, the term sometimes refers to the day on which it occurs…..

COVID-19, Declining Birth Rates and International Migration Resulted in Historically Small Population Gains
LUKE ROGERS, U.S. Census Bureau
DECEMBER 21, 2021
The U.S. population grew at a slower rate in 2021 than in any other year since the founding of the nation, based on historical decennial censuses and annual population estimates.
The U.S. Census Bureau Vintage 2021 Population Estimates released today show that population grew only 0.1% and that the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the slower growth the country has experienced in recent years.
The year 2021 is the first time since 1937 that the U.S. population grew by fewer than one million people, featuring the lowest numeric growth since at least 1900, when the Census Bureau began annual population estimates.
Apart from the last few years, when population growth slowed to historically low levels, the slowest rate of growth in the 20th century was from 1918-1919 amid the influenza pandemic and World War I….

You can’t blame it on just one man when the overwhelming elected membership of your party voted to overthrow a duly certified election. All of this concern for me makes me blush!
Ruff…Ruff!
My Name Is Jack says
This seems to be a tacit admission that CG was right.
Zreebs says
James seems to have just implied that he likes attention. But I guess that still doesn’t conclusively answer whether he was vaccinated. It is noteworthy that he said he likes attention, but at the same time he didn’t deny being an idiot and a potential murderer.
Zreebs says
Yes – I hope Santa gets you your booster (CG claimed you are already got your first two shots).
My Name Is Jack says
Yes that matter has never been resolved.
For months James has refused to admit to his vaccination status.Keith, in particular, has questioned him about it for some time, yet James refuses to comment.
Then CG claims that,in fact, James has been vaccinated And was refusing to state so because he simply enjoyed the attention and number of posts his intransigence was getting.
Now we know that ,unlike the rest of us here,James and CG have an off site back channel.Accordingly, the question arises, did James confide the above to CG or is CG just surmising such because it accords with his view of James as an attention seeker?
In this holiday season it is time for the truth to be told and if he ,in fact, has been vaccinated but was simply refusing to admit the same because he “ enjoyed” the attention the question was drawing to himself? Then the only response I can make to that is…
Of all the DUMB things I have seen on this site in the past over ten years? That about the DUMBEST one of all!
Zreebs says
Yes. If James does enjoys the attention of being being called an idiot and a potential murderer just so he can get more comments, then that helps us to understand James better. With James, you never know for sure. James makes a lot of posts that I don’t understand what he is trying to say, although I don’t spend much time trying to understand him.

Joe Manchin has said he will support a new tax on billionaires.
So much for any talk of him switching parties.
jamesb says
Manchin votes Democratic more than 90% of the time
This IS negotiating thhe Biden bill that WILL BE passed as some of us including Pelosi, Schumer and Biden KNEW from the jump…..
Manchin is actually helping the progressives and swing state other law makers
The progressives should STFU for once and let the man do his job …..
My Name Is Jack says
I had read earlier that Mitch McConnell was wooing Manchin but a few days later I read him saying that he didn’t think Manchin was going to switch .
I imagine that the wooing ended when Manchin told him his tax views.
Mitch could accept some things I suppose ,but a Republican tax raiser?
No way,!
Zreebs says
Manchin could co-sponsor it with Elizabeth Warren. I love it.
It is really astounding that rural America is willing to put up with candidates that favor the wealthy so much. Tax cuts to the wealthy is not just bad economics (that relatively few economists support); it is horrible for worsening the income distribution. Yet for some reason.rural America doesn’t care. They are still waiting for that promised new steel mill!
Ghost of SE says
If James likes the attention so much, he should go to a New York radio station and announce his consideration of a Primary challenge to President Biden on a platform of “Ain’t Gonna Happen” and “Americans Do Love Their Guns.”
Finley/Gross could be the ticket that beats Trump Mach II and saves America.

No thanks
I ‘m just an old dog running a wildly pipular political blog …..
That is enough….
My Name Is Jack says
“ wildly popular.”
I presume that is a purposefully farcical statement?
If not, it gives new meaning to the word, “ popular.”
Zreebs says
James, how many different people view your site on a typical day? Do you know?
My Name Is Jack says
In the past he has claimed several hundred.
A former poster, RepubliCAN, who seemed to possess some knowledge of such matters, said that most ,if not all of these unknown hits ,were “bots.”
Seeing as how it is very rare that anyone ,other than the regulars offers a post ,that explanation rang true with me.
If in fact there are hundreds visiting here daily without commenting? That would seem to indicate that they were just visiting to either view James’s editorial comments or our gems of knowledge ,an unlikely explanation.
Zreebs says
Truthfully, the main reason I come or the site is to read commentary from some (but not all) people.
Zreebs says
James, I noticed the pdog101 domain expires in July 2022. What does that mean? Are you planning new features?
My Name Is Jack says
Remember those polls James would occassionally run?
The problem was that there were usually no more than 5 or 6 votes cast.
I remember inquiring as to why there weren’t many more votes from the hundreds he claimed were viewing here daily.
I never saw another poll after that inquiry.
My Name Is Jack says
It would have to be CG/ Finley for CG to sign on.
If you notice ,in his various fantasizing about a bipartisan fusion ticket, the Republican is always in the top spot.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Consider the wildly successful outcome of the last bipartisan unity ticket of Abe Lincoln (R) & Andrew Johnson (D) in 1864.
Reconstruction nearly never happened.
Or Anderson (R) – Lucey (D) in 1980.
Zreebs says
I would have voted for Anderson, but I felt that would help Reagan more than Anderson.
Zreebs says
a JBF/CG ticket would promise increased military spending lower taxes on gas prices, some oil pipeline over environmentally sensitive areas, all financed by borrowing from China.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Plus a health-care plan NOT Medicate for All) that might have pleased the insurers and Big Pharma more than those they cover (or don’t cover).
We all know what a wild-eyed unrealistic Utopian revolutionary Clement Attlee was in 1948.
Zreebs says
Damn! I missed Festvus this year. I missed it last year too! I was looking forward to airing my grievances.
My Name Is Jack says
Essentially, this site is a year round
“Festivus”
Zreebs says
On Festivus, we should tell James what we really think.
