With Republicans working 24/7 to put their people in place across Red states and working to make it harder again for certain Americans to vote?
Democratic lawmakers in Congress are trying to figure out how to get a Voting Rights Law passed….In the US Senate…
They will need a set aside of the 60 vote requirements , since NO Republicans will probably vote for a law that would be made to nullify some of their efforts to lock in an election for their party members…
It ain’t gonna be easy…..
Several lawmakers said Wednesday they are optimistic the new push could succeed where previous efforts have failed because of growing support for changing the Senate’s filibuster rule that has allowed Republicans to block previous attempts to pass voting rights legislation.
But it remained far from certain that the rules changes under consideration would ultimately go beyond nibbling around the edges of the filibuster’s 60-vote supermajority requirement for most legislation, leaving the party once again facing the seemingly intractable predicament of how to deliver on a campaign promise they say is needed to deal with an existential crisis for the country…
…
The urgency to act is also being fueled by the recent election law changes in states such as Georgia and Texas that civil rights groups and Democrats argue will make it harder for people in minority communities to vote and will also potentially give legislatures in states Trump won greater power to influence presidential election outcomes through changes that sideline or weaken the authority of state election officials.
The long-simmering discussion about Senates rules reheated this week as progress on the massive climate, tax and social policy bill appeared to stall. Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.), a key defender of the filibuster, met Wednesday with small groups of Republicans and Democrats, including Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.).
But Manchin has given no clear indication that he has changed his long-stated view that the 60-vote margin must ultimately stay intact, leaving the GOP in a position to block the voting bills and other partisan legislation….
Note…
The filibuster rule was put aside for the just passed Debt Ceiling bill vote…
Republicans put it aside back during the Trump admin…
There REALLY IS NO reason Schumer could set it aside for a Voting Right’s bill, except for two DEMOCRATIC Senator’s….

I don’t see this happening.

And that is a shame. There is no issue more important to the country right now than voting rights.

Probably not due to Manchin and now Sinema against the filibuster bypass with just bullshit…..
Again?
They just did that for the debt ceiling and McConnell did it a few years ago….

Biden plans forceful push for voting rights. Aides are bearish on success.
A year of fits and starts has left the advocacy community bewildered.
They say the window is closing and Biden needs to act.
The White House has been considering connecting the voting rights drive with the upcoming first anniversary of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, making the case that the most sacred tenant of America’s democracy remains under siege one year after the insurrection fueled by the election fraud lies told by former President Donald Trump.
To strongly make that case, the president and his team had been hoping to clear the legislative deck by the Jan. 6 anniversary. But the president’s social spending bill, known as the Build Back Better Act, appears stalled for the foreseeable future in the Senate, with Manchin’s refusal to commit to the $1.75 trillion legislation seemingly certain to push the measure into early 2022….

Lots of discussions in Senate about ending this year’s session as soon as tomorrow. Today seems unlikely but they are trying to wrap a deal for a bunch of nominations to be confirmed. Then head home for the year, punting BBB until 2022

pretty weak of them

The GOP is doing all it would do obstruct. It is pretty hard running a country when one party’s goal is to delay and defeat everything – including all nominations. I would bet a majority of GOP senators have not yet voted for even one of Caiden’s judicial nominations.
