‘Guidance’ from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , the ‘Feds’….
Shortens the time a confirmed infected person should stay isolated /quarantined….
EVERYBODY is happy to hear this….
(Hope so will the economy and business also)
There is some fine print that bound to get lost in this….
This ‘advice’ pertained to those the agency says are ‘asymptomatic ‘….
This applies to vaccinated and unvaccinated….
Those with ‘booster’ shot do NOT have to isolate at all…
All infected should wear masks for the original 10 day period….
This IS a quantum jump for the CDC, which has to weight health stuff and political pressure from political types working for the sitting President, whoever he maybe….
The media narrative has been ‘hair on fire’ reported virus case numbers and deaths….
But the health experts have been following reports from South Africa that show the newest Covid variant, Omicron , is VERY infectious, but weak in effects on humans, vaccines and even unvaccinated …
In America….
Reported case numbers have gone thru the roof…
But?
Hospital case’s only are up slightly and ‘reported’ death numbers have actually dropped , averaging in the single digits , while case numbers are in the hundreds of thousand’s….
President Biden has repeatedly told the public that case numbers would drop and vaccine numbers would be North of 70%….
THAT is NOT the situation right now…
In fact?
In certain parts of the country away from media centers in New York and Los Angles?
People seem to have declared a ‘all clear’….
The President admitted today that he cannot control the response to the virus outbreaks….
Is a conencidence that the CDC just dropped this life line on the country?
Just to repeat….
The response to the pandemic as the President just pointed out IS up top the nations Governor’s….
But Biden & Co. just tried help shift things in the public’s minds….
Midterm elections are less than a year away…
2024 warm up campaigning isn’t far behind….
And?
There is always gonna be a new virus to add to the more than the 200,000 known to man….
We just want people to come thru them safe….
Getting a shot and wearing a mask are efforts to help….
Airline and other industry officials have been calling on the agency to shorten recommended quarantine and isolation times. They said the slew of flight cancellations were largely driven by employees who tested positive for the virus and were isolating for 10 days. Airline officials, as well as those from other industries, have expressed concern that omicron’s transmissibility would make it impossible to keep businesses running if they followed earlier guidelines….
…
As part of its update, the CDC also cut the recommended quarantine time to five days for those exposed to the coronavirus who are not yet boosted. It recommended such people wear masks around others for an additional five days.
The agency said those exposed to the infection who have received booster shots do not need to quarantine, but should wear a mask for 10 days.
“These updates ensure people can safely continue their daily lives,” CDC director Rochelle Walensky said in a statement. “The omicron variant is spreading quickly and has the potential to impact all facets of our society. CDC’s updated recommendations for isolation and quarantine balance what we know about the spread of the virus and the protection provided by vaccination and booster doses.”
The agency said the decision was driven by research that has shown that most transmission occurs early in the course of a person’s illness, typically in the one to two days before the onset of symptoms and, then, for two to three days afterward. Health officials also recommended that those exposed get tested five days after their exposure…
…
“The new guidance reflects a growing reality that we’re going to have to learn to live with covid as a persistent risk, and can’t let it shut down society,” said Scott Gottlieb, a Pfizer board member and former Food and Drug Administration commissioner….
…
The seven-day average of new daily cases in the U.S. was more than 222,000 on Monday, up more than 52 percent from the seven-day average a week ago, according to The Washington Post covid tracker. The seven-day average of daily deaths was at 1,415 on Monday.

On the increase in testing for the virus…
The omicron strain is so infectious that once the current surge has faded in the United States, it’s likely a large majority of the population will either have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have been infected, experts say. At that point, the focus should shift away from preventing infection to preventing serious illness, multiple experts said, a message already being echoed in some corners of the White House.
Many states have been seeing staggering numbers of positive tests and lines for COVID-19 testing that stretch for several blocks. Washington, D.C., and New York state have set records in recent days for the number of new cases reported as omicron barrels through the population….
…
Health experts have suggested the White House’s shift in messaging away from a focus on the number of cases is a sign of what’s to come as the pandemic eventually becomes endemic.
“For two years, infections always preceded hospitalizations which preceded deaths, so you could look at infections and know what was coming,” Ashish Jha, dean of the Brown University School of Public Health, said Sunday on ABC. “Omicron changes that. This is the shift we’ve been waiting for in many ways.”
Dowdy said positive tests are also up because people are getting tested before visiting relatives.
“If a lot of people are testing positive because they are asymptomatic and wanting to make sure that they can travel etc., having a lot of those kinds of cases is not a big problem,” he said.
“In fact, that’s a good thing. It means that we’re doing the right thing as a country to define those cases,” Dowdy added….
…
“The White House has got a very difficult balancing act. Certainly for now it’s going to have to emphasize the idea of masking and distancing for the purpose of protecting the health system,” Gostin said.
“We can’t live our lives in a bubble to prevent us from getting a pathogen that’s so contagious that you can’t avoid it if you’re going to be circulating and living a life in this world,” he continued. “What it means to transition to a normal life or more normal life is you have to focus not so much on preventing cases, but on preventing hospitalizations and deaths.”

There are fewer people (33, to be exact) in ICU in NYC from covid today than last year, same date. This is not the same outbreak. It still has a ways to go, but this outbreak is thankfully NEVER going to look like March/April 2020.

Appearing on ABC News’s “This Week,” Fauci acknowledged the backlash over the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reducing the recommended isolation period after a positive coronavirus test from 10 days to five. Fauci said officials may soon add a testing component at the end of the five-day period. The CDC’s shortened isolation protocol applies only to asymptomatic people…
