Smart Move….
She’ll run to keep her current job which should no problem for her…
She is currently running several investigations into Donald Trump’s actions…
She has helped unseat her former Governor who is now using her political ambitions as his defense against possible changes by the Feds looking at his actions…
But most of all?
Early polling in the governor’s race show no big jump fro her announcement from minority and NYC voters, which would her strength…
Governor Hochul is showing surprising strength in the polls so far…
This move could be a good move for Rep. Tom Suozzi, IF he could get an endorsement for incoming g NYC Mayor Eric Adams, who asked Suozzi to serve as one of his deputy mayors…
New York Attorney General Leticia James announced Thursday she will suspend her campaign for Governor. Her decision came as a surprise to New York’s political world and gives a significant boost to Governor Kathy Hochul.
James made the announcement in a tweet, saying she would run for re-election to her current position. “I have come to the conclusion that I must continue my work as attorney general,” she wrote.
“There are a number of important investigations and cases that are underway, and I intend to finish the job. I am running for re-election to complete the work New Yorkers elected me to do.”…

There’s no way that Adams is going to oppose Hochul. Despite, the recent history of Democrat Governors and Mayors fighting there.
This is definitely bad for Suozzi who would have needed liberal candidates splitting the primary vote, though he had little chance to begin with.
Hochul probably wins the nomination without too much drama, unless someone else gets in.

Adams has his hands full grabing the reins of the “Big Apple’….
jamesb says
I disagree on Suozzi IF Adams backs his run….
CG says
Adams is not going to back Suozzi. There’s also no reason to believe that Adams has political coattails. He won the nomination for Mayor because of the crime issue and because he had an African-American base. A Long Island guy like Suozzi does not really have statewide primary appeal. Hochul is also not seen as an NYC liberal, although her Republican opponent will try to paint her that way.

Looking at Wikipedia’s list of Atties-Gen. of NY, I see only two in the last century who actually succeeded in becoming Governor, and neither of them came to a good end:
Eliot Spitzer and Andrew Cuomo.
The most successful A-G I see is Jacob Javits, later a long-serving and influential Republican U.S. Senator.
So (with Javits’s exception), New York does not seem like a state where being Attorney-General is a good springboard to the Governor’s mansion.
You can make a name as a chief prosecutor, but inevitably you make a lot of enemies.

DSD?
Yup
Both Cuomo
And Sptizer made the jump
And BOTH stepped down in disgrace
jamesb says
Damn Real on the enemies part!

Good read CG
MY point IS Hochul IS an upstater
If Adams CAN help Suozzi get a good sized piece of NYC?
He can fight Holchul for moderate’s elsewhere
Remember
Adams WAS a GOPer and will be very much more conservative then De Blasio
And even in NY?
The key will
Be the middle where Suozzi and rhe Gov are
bdog says
I think it will come down to how Adams does his first year if the Democrats, Suozzi or Hochul run against Zeldin…If Adams reduces crime Democrats win hands down…if City gun violence and other portrayed violence in the city remains the same, Democrats have a real problem cause The middle will be scared with daily reports of violence in the city and won’t support a Democrat…I have no real dog in the fight, Suozzi, Hochul, James, they all about the same…my main concern is Zeldin, this tool bag voted against certifying the election in Arizona and is a staunch Trump Guy (remember he supported the tax deal for the wealthy, voted against the SALT, but ultimately supported the bill as a whole)…bad for New York…Plus he has a Spanish wife and could run that angle, he certainly did in his last campaign against the Stony Brook Professor.
CG says
Zeldin could potentially win cross-over Democrat votes in his bid to become New York’s first Jewish Governor in many decades (unless one has to count Spitzer as having been Governor)
jamesb says
Not gonna happen CG….
Only moderate GOPer’s have done well in the Empire State…
Bdog’s pinning the guy to Trump means a ‘no go’….
CG says
I did not say Zeldin was going to win, but bdog seems to think that there is some vulnerability for Democrats there in 2022.
Zeldin has an extremely impressive resume and whatnot before he got mixed up with Trumpism.
jamesb says
There is NO chance the next Governor of NY will be a Republican….
NONE….
CG says
Always risky to say “no chance.” People were saying practically “no chance” in Virginia and New Jersey was supposed to have been an easy blow-out also.
I remember early Election Night 1994, Matilda Cuomo was being interviewed on CNN and said there was no chance her husband would lose.
jamesb says
He, he, he….
Another Good Point….
But the next NY Gov ain’t gonna be a GOPer….
Take THAT to the bank….
Beto would have win Texas first…..
jamesb says
Thanks Bdog on the Zelden GOP look….
In tune with the rest of the country….
It’s a rough time for Lefties going forward…
bdog says
James,
I don’t share your confidence in New York, I don’t see the city too motivated to vote, with those numbers down…there is a path forward for Zeldin…a slim path, but to say there is no way…your out your mind…LI, West Chester, will probably go for him…if he can build support there, city apathy could lead to low voter turnout and a surprise on election night…
