Added to this is poll NOW about a hypothetical Biden / Trump run in Iowa that has Trump up 11 percentage points….
Ok…
We’re 3 YEARS out from the 2024 election….
Iowa is now a Red State….
The problem here is B Biden’s numbers in several polls is STIL tanking….
In most others?
He’s in the mid 40 percent….
Real Clear Politics average for the President is 42%...
This new poll is a outlier ….
But it points to a President who suffering from Economy that has a Inflation problem as it also cope’s with what seems to be a new spike in case’s that could last the customary few months before bottoming out….
Overall, the survey offers a set of harsh judgments about the president’s performance and the state of the economy. Together, they send a stark warning to Democrats about their prospects in the 2022 midterm contests.
Recent losses in the Virginia elections and a close call in the New Jersey gubernatorial race have put Democrats on edge, with reason. The Post-ABC poll finds that, if elections were held today, 46 percent of adults overall would back the Republican candidate for Congress and 43 percent would support the Democratic candidate. Among registered voters, the GOP advantage goes to 51 percent vs. 41 percent for Democrats, a historically strong result for Republicans on this measure….
…
The Post-ABC poll also showcases Americans’ current pessimism: Despite a mix of economic signals — falling unemployment and rising prices — 70 percent rate the economy negatively, including 38 percent who say it is in “poor” condition. About half of Americans overall and political independents blame Biden for fast-rising inflation, and more than 6 in 10 Americans say he has not accomplished much after 10 months in office, including 71 percent of independents….

My read, admittedly anecdotal and confined to my area, is that there is simply a general feeling that things aren’t going well and that every time people go grocery shopping and their bill is higher they tend to get mad.
Combine that with the continuing pandemic(which is the root of what they are seeing at the stores) and you have a general sense of unrest and anger and that is always going to be taken out on the occupant of the White House ,regardless of his responsibility for the problems.
Zreebs says
I mostly agree with that.
With that said, the five us here not only need to remind others that the inflation is almost entirely related to the pandemic, but also that there is relatively little a President can do to control inflation, which is the Purview of the Federal Reserve. It is the completely independent Federal Reserve – and not Biden – that chooses to tighten the money supply or raise interests rates.
Jack is correct that Biden will get the blame, but there is relatively little he can do to change things – even though that won’t sell politically.
Biden has done a fine job at handling the pandemic, and to the extent that he encouraged vaccinations, he actually has done a good job at keeping inflation lower than it otherwise would have been.
Keith says
And of course inflation is driven by the pandemic and the pandemic is being fueled by stupid people, mostly Republicans, who are afraid to be vaccinated.
jamesb says
You left out the supply thing Keith……

@ForecasterEnten
Voters don’t care about Donald Trump. They care about Joe Biden’s unpopularity. VA is a good example: the 16% of Virginia voters who didn’t like Biden or Trump, Youngkin won by better than 2 to 1. This was a key bloc that put Youngkin over the edge.
My Name Is Jack says
The “supply thing” is because of the pandemic which is also driving the inflation.
Daniel says
The Inflation Thing isn’t going away. And the “Built Better Plan” will accelerate it even more. Bidens Economic Policies are an utter DISASTER!
BBB will cost the US 9+ Million Small Business Jobs!
jamesb says
Daniel?
What are REPUBLICANS doing about the Economy?????
Zreebs says
Build Back Better won’t be inflationary mostly because it is will be paid for. And to the extent that if frees up the supply of laborers because Parents can take advantage of pre Kindergarten,it could actually have a favorable impact on inflation.
If Daniel wants to look at administrations with massive deficit spending, he can look at Bush and the most fiscally irresponsible of them all, Trump.
Daniel says
Yeah, TAX HIKES all over the place! US doesn’t need that. The way you rebuilt the Economy after COVID is to deregulate things not by putting more Regulations in.
The notion that BBB doesn’t tax the Middle Class is a big fat lie by the Biden Administration.
Joe Biden is controlled by muppets & puppets from the Progresssive Wing of the Democratic Party. The Democratic Progressive House Caucus with these Clowns like Cori Bush, AOC, Jamaal Bowman, Rashida Talib, Ilhan Omar and Chair Pramila Jayapal has 91 Members. They are controlling the D’s and not the Moderates.
This is very, very different from when Obama won in 2008. He brought in a lot of Conservative “Blue Dog” Democrats.
Now, the House may pass BBB but unlike after 2008 when Democrats had a 257-178 Majority Pelosi has no room for error AND Joe Manchin will either dismantle or kill the bill altogether.
BBB will basically shut down the US Oil Industry as well.
Scott P says
Joe Biden is controlled by muppets? No wonder Cancun Cruz hates Big Bird getting his COVID vaccine.
Scott P says
Obama brought in a lot of conservative Democrats? That’s weird because the very next year the Tea Party was telling us Obama and all his cronies were marxists.
Daniel says
John Spratt, Ike Skelton, Ric Boucher…I guess these a liberals for you. They owned their Re-Election 2008 to Obama!
My Name Is Jack says
That’s ridiculous.
Skelton was elected to Congress in 1976He ran Ahead of Obama in 2008.
Boucher and Spratt were both elected in 1982,26 years before Obama was elected.Boucher didn’t even have an opponent in 2008.
All three were defeated in 2010 as the White southern Democrats were fading away in districts that were voting increasingly Republican.
Scott P says
Ike Skelton’s district (MO-4) included parts of Kansas City until 2000 when it was shifted to more rural conservative central Missouri. Skelton was able to hang on even as the district gave GW Bush and John McCain over 60% in 2004 and 2008 respectively.
Eventually Skelton’s personal popularity ran out. We’ve seen that in other districts (as Jack notes) where the Congressional vote eventually switches to more closely resemble the Presidential vote. Just as there are fewer GOP members of Congress representing states like Maryland, New York, Connecticut, etc.
The idea that Obama somehow carried Skelton to victory in a Presidential year where he was losing the district by 20 points is pretty laughable.

Hartsville, Mo. (pop. 594) is the 2020 U.S. center of population, says the U.S. Census.
Most of the recent centers of population in the past few decades have stayed within the Show-me State.

Things like paid leave in BBB is in every developed country in the world. Paid leave is not in Suriname, new Guinee, or a few other island countries near where Daniel claims to have lived. Maybe Daniel wants us to be just like Suriname? Is that part of the GOP agenda?
jamesb says
Paid leave IS something human
It SHOULD be available to all

Tax increases aren’t gonna be much in the end….
They will be watered down Daniel
