The old Republican machine that seemed gone a few elections ago came back to life….
Looks like Republicans could squeak out a win for the County Executive and District Attorney office handily……
Bruce Blakeman has declared victory over Laura Curran for the Executive job….
(There are absentee ballots still be counted…Curran has not conceded)
Anne Donnelly beat Adam Kaminsky for the DA’s spot….
In addition….
Don Clavin easily keeps his Job as the Town of Hempstead Supervisor ….
Nassau County
A New York City suburb of almost one and one half million people has a GOP history that was knocked out a few years ago when some of its leaders had legal troubles and lost their jobs…
But just recently several things had happened that have brought them back to power…
The county ‘s population IS changing as more people move from New York City there…
Few of them came out to vote it would seem this time….
Also?
Republicans have made in roads ton the Hispanic vote across the country….
As in other places?
With no Donald Trump making noise?
A Lot of Democrats stayed home it would seem….
Joe Biden’s lukewarm polling numbers add to the issue for Long Island Democrats….
Donald Trump, who grew up in nearby Queens NYC has support in the suburb and Democrats seem luckluster there…..
Curran will need to win the lion’s share of 30,000 to 40,000 uncounted mail-in balls to turn the tide.
Republican Elaine Phillips, a former state senator, also buried Democratic rival Ryan Cronin in the Nassau comptroller’s race, with 61 percent or 145,175 votes to 94,445 votes or 39 percent.
“It was not a particularly good night,” said Nassau County Democratic leader Jay Jacobs.
President Biden’s plummeting popularity and infighting among Democrats in charge of Congress over spending plans contributed to the onslaught. Democrats now have the burden of governing and can no longer invoke former President Donald Trump as the bogeyman.
“Donald Trump is no longer on the ballot,” said Lawrence Levy, dean of Hofstra University’s national center for suburban studies.
“This is a red tsunami. It’s a complete wipeout. This is a sharp repudiation of the Democratic Party.”…

Debating this a lot today at Work:
Biggest Factors:
Democratic Voters Low Turnout
Taxes
Higher prices
Culture Wars and Crime (perception of Crime when Nassau Rated safest county in America)

With our taxes it SHOULD BE!
I generally agree with feelings about the econommy

As requires constant reiteration, those who attempt to seperate the economy from the pandemic are engaging in a fools errand.
The economic problems are a direct result of the pandemic which has disrupted the supply chain of raw materials as well as manufactured goods.Meanwhile Americans have more expendable money as a result of governmental aid and funds saved during the pandemic.
Classic case of too much money chasing too few goods ,thus…inflation.
Bidens Administration thought this was a temporary situation ;however,it is proving more intractable with little indication that it will end anytime soon.China ,for instance, is engaging in periodic lockdowns in a probably futile effort to totally eradicate the virus.
It’s quite a dilemma for Biden ,as it would be for whomever was President now ,as much of this is out of his control.
Inflation is on every family’s mined as they make a weekly trek to the grocery store and watch their bill climb with each visit.
The pandemic seems to be slowly receding in the United States but will still be a factor in other countries and maybe even here again in the coming year.?Hope springs eternal of course but right now?Its difficult to be optimistic.
When things are going badly the Party in power takes it on the chin.Enough said.

Ok Jack…….
I agree it is part of the root cause
But for yesterdays election?
It ran a distance THIRD or FOURTH in most exit polls
It IS THE ECONOMY NOW as the issue….
That no matter how many times u and Keith bring it up……
Polling has most American’s wanting to ‘move on’
And we both agree
The pandemic maybe subsiding
But Covid is gonna be around for a LONG Time
Joe Biden won really because he wasn’t Trump
With no Trump ‘directly’ on the ballots?
Dem turnout slumped
Your view on the economy itself and its restart seems right on as a difficult issue for the President AND Democrats going forward…

I left out
The infighting of Dem’s in Congress is NOT helpful to lawmakers themselved
