The House will vote soon on the rule for the Build Back Better Act, setting up a vote for the week of November 15. The rule is expected to pass along party lines, much like the Build Back Better Act itself. But remember, what passes in the House will be changed in the Senate.

To go “ big” which was the mantra in the early days of this administration,you need more than a two seat majority in the Senate.
See FDR in 1932 and LBJ in 1964.
Except that Republicans have consistently been able to go big with massive deficit busting tax cuts that benefitted their donor class without large majorities in Congress.

That’s true but the Republicans are much more fixated and supportive of that single matter than the Democrats are on any particular issue.
Even so called Republican moderates” are in favor of massive tax cuts.
I have often stated ,only mildly hyperbolically , that tax cuts for the wealthy are the single guiding principle of the Republican Party .
Democrats tend to be more splintered on various matters Accordingly, a Democratic President has to be more mindful of such when planning a legislative agenda.In my view, either Biden overestimated his ability to bring Manchin along or , and here I’m being sort of “conspiratorial, “ Biden himself isn’t that unhappy about Manchins intransigence.

Why do you say Biden might not be unhappy with Manchin? Biden sure wasted a lot of time dealing with Manchin’s intransigence, and it helped give the impression that Biden couldn’t lead.
So Biden is okay with Manchin making him look incompetent? I doubt it.

My point was that Biden never thought he could get the whole ball of wax so Manchins intransigence gave him a scapegoat so to speak and allowed him to have a fall guy for the negotiations that have been going on for awhile now on the package .
I was just floating it out there.As I said I was being “conspiratorial.”
One things for sure ,the package that finally emerges?Is going to be ,at best, about half of what was originally proposed.Blame whom you want,Manchin, Synema, Biden, the progressives?? It just seems to me that way too much time has been spent on a “deal” that probably could have been done months ago and,in the meanwhile, it has hurt the Democrats image in the public mind.

The progressive duo also took heat from New Yorkers on social media for the vote. “Either they’re chaos agents and seriously politically inept. I don’t see any other alternatives,” said one Twitter user to Rep. Bowman. “Disappointed in my Congressman, whose track record to date I’ve been very proud of. America needed this bill. To vote no is to play more political football with the lives of the American people at large,” said another.
“I think she did her district a disservice,” Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) told The Post. “New York City benefits more than any other part of the country. It’s all hard infrastructure and all things that we desperately need.”
Malliotakis bucked her own party to vote in favor of the bill, joining other statewide Republicans including Reps. John Katko (R-Syracuse), Tom Reed (R-Corning), and Andrew Garbarino (R-Sayville). She added that she has been disappointed with many of her GOP colleagues spreading “misinformation” about the bill and for voting no to simply deny President Biden a win….
