They aren’t as vocal as others in Europe where there have been protests against renewed virus restricts…
But Americans ARE tired and officials have gotten the message…
Things need to be cautiously opened up….
The new smaller spike in cases….
Not hospital stay’s or deaths are probably because people have gotten shots, are wearing masks and are not putting themselves in tight quarters some much …
(There is ALWAYS going to be a new virus popping up…THAT is actually a reality…The media editors need to calm down) )
But they ARE sending their kids to school, attending entertainment venues changing some of their shopping habits…
“It is very exhausting,” said Ezekiel Emanuel, a physician and bioethicist at the University of Pennsylvania who was on President’s Biden’s covid advisory team during the transition. “The American public is rightfully exhausted, and therefore the amount of risk we’re willing to take goes up. People are willing to take more risks and accept more challenges, but they’re not willing to accept more restrictions.”….
…
And in some places, even if health officials did want to enact restrictions, their power to do so has been stripped as Republican governors, GOP-controlled state legislatures and conservative state supreme courts have moved to curtail their powers.
Biden, speaking to reporters late last week, said he was not considering a new round of vaccine mandates such as requiring shots for domestic travel. Instead, he renewed his plea for Americans to get their shots and boosters.
“No, not at the moment,” Biden said when asked if he were weighing new vaccine requirements. A current administration rule that businesses with more than 100 employees must vaccinate their workers or require regular testing has been halted by a court order….
…
Over the weekend, state and local officials largely used the interest in omicron to reiterate current restrictions rather than publicly discuss new ones….
…
A previous variant detected in South Africa before it was found in Louisiana ended up not being concerning because it was not highly transmissible, Kanter said, even though early data suggested it may be resistant to vaccines or therapeutics….

I enjoyed the intro to the article.
A virus spreader talking about himself.
Keith says
I love the old “there is always going to another virus popping up” bullshit. Not if everyone is vaccinated there won’t be. And, please don’t waste typing time telling me that isn’t possible, because I know that millions of stupid Republicans refuse to be vaccinated because a Democrat told them to do it.
Americans do support vaccine mandates. I certainly do. After taking a year off for safety we’re having a vaccinated only (please bring proof) holiday tree trimming party. (For those who stalk me on Facebook I have already posted a picture of the tree as we selected it, waiting for delivery as I type this.) I have had a least one awkward conversation with someone I verbally invited before I knew their vaccination status. Nice people, great neighbors, but Republicans who will tell you “my immune system works just great,” we only meet in open air settings.
So, not sure where this whole justificatio for people who chose to be reckless with their own and other’s lives, but it is wrong. I understand why our President has done, or not done, what he has about mandates. But, I applaud the mandate for federal workers and the military. The shear stupidity of people who refuse a little shot that has already been administered to over 230 million Americans is one for the history books. We get our boosters on December 1 and will be monitoring closely what. happens in the UK especially since our holiday travel depends on it.

Keith?
There are at least 300,000 DIFFERENT virus or variants known to man…….
A common cold is one made up of a few….
THERE ARE gonna be more ALL THE TIME dropping in……
We live with them everyday , every minute, every second……
And yes…..
People ARE tired of restrictions
Vaccines, masks and social distancing WILL allow us humans to control their spread and severity……
Some of us will have natural immunities , most will not…….
Media hysterics serve little purpose but to scare people and raise ad rates….
I agree there ARE LOT of stupid people out there that are not careful in their lives
I am NOT one of them
jamesb says
A federal judge in Missouri has partially halted another one of the Biden administration’s key vaccine requirements, blocking the imposition of a rule for certain health-care workers in 10 states.….
Wash Post….
The CDC now ok’s booster shots for snybody who wants them…. following the lead of several states and cities….
Health officials are telling the public shots are the answer for the Omicron variant right now….
Keith says
For the record, we can forget about Saint Mitt, he’s yesterday’s news, and his abject failure to lead the racist hordes with a defective dog whistle created Donald Trump.
The hordes were tired of racist inferences. They wanted the full on hate.
Today’s GOP is led by MTG, Boebert, and Gosar. Along with a bunch of craven crackers who want power for power’s sake. There isn’t a fucking what about that can justify this bunch of Nazis.
Throw in Fox News and we’re off to the Charlottesville races chanting “Jews will not replace us!”
As for the virus, 60 per cent of Republicans refuse vaccination. They are outpacing Democrats three to one as they so willingly kill themselves and the GOP leadership encourages it.
Yesterday our host, who Corey said resents us, said the virus will always be here. Not if we’re all vaccinated it won’t.
Zreebs says
No, the opposite is true. we need more government mandates if we are going to get back to normal. The US has the most deaths in the world and the second most on a per capita basis. Clearly, we aren’t doing enough.
The unvaccinated have been allowed to kill far too many innocent people already.
Keith says
They are doing it as I type this Zreebs. And now they are saying the whole new variant is a Democratic Conspiracy.
I support mandates and will be taking my surgical mask with me everywhere I go for the next few months.
My Name Is Jack says
The Republicans like Lying.
They actually enjoy it!
Lying…the new “conservative value.”
Zreebs says
And Republicans will continue to lie until they pay a price for doing so. virtually the whole party opposed any inquiry into January 6 because so many prominent Republicans would be implicated. So people like pence and Romney who both would have been killed had they been found have no real interest in identifying the leaders of the insurrection and the opponents of Democracy. So Republicans stay silent or state something like “We really don’t know how much fraud there was” while they blatantly try to surgically pass laws that disproportionately prevent black people from voting.
Fareed Zakaria had a great insightful special this past Sunday about the progression of how the GOP has become the Trump party. The thing that worries me is GOPs transformation may not be over yet. It could become even more racist, authoritarian and neo-fascist than it is now.
If there is no price to be paid by saying there were good people on both sides of the neo-nazi rally, then how can things get better?
CG says
Why would Mitt Romney be included in this?
He voted to convict Trump for January 6 and supported establishing an Independent January 6 Commission.
Zreebs says
I thought Romney was against the independent commission. Sorry. I should have used a better example.
My Name Is Jack says
While the Romney example was mistaken, the rest of your post was spot on.
Frankly, the time is long past to care much that a Romney or Liz Cheney or whomever cast a vote here and there.
They are of no influence in today’s Republican Party.
The issue is the direction of that party and presently ?Despite the minutiae you read here as to this or that individual Republican? The Party remains a vehiclefor the crypto authoritarian Donald Trump and his lies, deceits and dictatorial predilections.
CG says
Just got my booster an hour ago. Hopefully, anybody who still needs to will get on it.
Ghost of SE says
Got my booster a week ago. No side effects for me(though I already had a cold), sans not being able to lift my left arm without stabbing pain. After four weeks passes, I’ll also jump on a flu shot.
Scott P says
Yes hopefully they will not listen to the foolish skepticism of medicine and science espoused by one political party when it comes to the vaccine and boosters.
Mine is scheduled on Thursday.
CG says
I think “foolish skepticism of medicine and science” might go both ways.
For example, a hypothetical person showing up in Thanksgiving insisting that the new South African variant (before it was even named) was already in the U.S. and that they needed to wear a mask around close family members at all times, even though every adult in the house at the time was fully vaccinated and that the one person who had yet to get a booster had “zero protection” against Covid, despite having been fully vaccinated and was thus made to feel like a “threat.”
People are getting all sorts of misinformation on both sides about this whole thing depending on what kind of cable news they watch or what they come across on Facebook.
Scott P says
More “both sides’ bullshit. But at least we aren’t hearing about how the left is just as anti vaxx as the right because RFK Jr.
Zreebs says
I am so tired of these “both sides do it argument”. Rather than condemn Paul Gosar for others for their depicting violence against AOC, the neo fascist media played a clip of Nancy Pelosi saying “if we are getting punched, we have to punch back”, and suggested the Dems were as guilty of encouraging violence as Republicans. Much as CG would always come up with an analogy (sometimes ridiculous and sometimes made up ones such as the one he shared above) that suggested the Dems were just as bad as Republicans. – in this case of believing science.
This is coming from a guy who argued we should increase coal production even though 1) coal has to be heavily subsidized by the government for it to be competitive over other energy sources, 2) Coal is arguably the most harmful energy option for the environment, 3) there are few jobs creared by coal as most mining is now done by machine. Coal is the only cause of the deadly black lung disease that killed so many coal mine workers.
CG says
1. The example I gave was not made up. It happened to me. Trusting the science has to allow for an understanding that the science has shown that vaccines work. Dr Fauci and many others were saying it was safe to have Thanksgiving with vaccinated family members without the need for masks or open windows, etc. Some have chosen to not believe that science
2. Generally speaking, not wanting to hear “other sides” or the obsessive need to believe that one side is always right or one side is always wrong and that there is never a greater principle above tribalism is a sign of intellectual insecurity, at the least. It is not surprising that this is prevalent among those who comment on a variety of different political blogs. People like that just want to be reassured in their biases. It is easier than having to answer questions.
3. I cannot respond to everything that is said here so I am hoping that this is goodbye for today. Have a nice one.
Zreebs says
Sorry to heat the the rest of CG’s family wasn’t fully comfortable with him showing up for Thanksgiving. But I Can’t help but wonder if the real reason wasn’t something like he was inaccurately accusing someone in the family of being convicted of a crime. Or just maybe they didn’t want to hear all of those “what about”. Whatever, I hope he enjoyed his thanksgiving.
CG says
Again Zreebs, you deliberately are trying to distort things.
It was one family member, who is has a lot of other things on his plate right now, so I am trying to be sympathetic.. Everyone else agreed with me. This family member was the only one uncomfortable because he is overreacting to fear about Covid and thus should have made the choice to stay home then instead of ruining it for the others.
Nobody in my family has ever been charged with a crime.
Zreebs says
I’m not trying to distort anything. When you were talking about your family and said“some”have chosen not to believe science, I inferred the word “some” implied that it was more than one family member.
If You are going to accuse me of distorting things, then maybe you should make sure you should apologize to Keith for falsely accusing him of being convicted for something other than underage drinking. Because that accusation sure looks like a distortion.
CG says
“some” in the general population. Then I offered an anecdote.
I genuinely believe you would understand the grammatical construct of what I write, but perhaps I am just a bad communicator and do not realize it.
In regards to Keith, I have said that he was charged with a crime, which we both know to be true. You have said that you do not really know how his case ended. I have said that from what I saw online, he plead guilty in some sort of plea deal. That often happens with criminal defendants.
If there was a jury verdict of “Not Guilty” or “Charges Dropped in Full”, I am surprised the Chicago Tribune did not cover it at the time, since they had literally dozens of articles about the saga. I have said that if there is something that can better inform me of the case ending in a different way other than what I have seen (of course I do not remember from 1987 directly), then I would look at it and be better informed moving forward.
Otherwise, it is hard merely to take his word, when there is a primary source that said something different.
CG says
Ironically, 83 year old Ed Vrdolyak is reporting to prison today.
Not his first time.
Zreebs says
I don’t recall Keith lying about anything. And I have never seen anything that suggested he was found guilty and i doubt you did either. And yes, I do believe Keith. I would bet on it.
My Name Is Jack says
While I agree that there is a lot of disinformation as regards this pandemic and the example above shows how some people go entirely overboard and in general look rather foolish, that is vastly different from advocating that people not get vaccinated, that the whole thing is some kind of hoax or that certain “cures” (unproven) are just as valid as vaccinations .
And that is what is going on among a substantial segment of the Republican Party and it’s favored media sources. This type of disinformation is potentially life threatening. We will never know how many people have died as a result of this .
So yes I personally consider such actions much more irresponsible and reprehensible than a pers.on acting foolishly and essentially being an annoyance to others.
My Name Is Jack says
Meanwhile,Republicans are more concerned with their vendetta against Fauci.
The “intellectually challenged Lara Trump says that “people”(I.e.Right Wing kooks”) tell her that Fauciis just like Nazi Doctor Josef Mengele , while White Nationalist(and most popular commentator on the Republicans favorite network) Tucker Carlson says he’s a “shorter version of Benito Mussolini.”
Keith says
Is this an example of wanting to hear the other side? In Republican world it must be.
Zreebs says
Maybe I should take better notice of who the advertisers are on Tucker Carlson and write to the CEOs that funding white nationalists is not okay and I won’t buy their products anymore. AndI literally won’t.
The down side is who wants to spend their limited time on earth watching Tucker Carlson?
Speaking of watching right wing networks, I will be on Newmax’s Mark Halperin’s Focus Group this Saturday and Sunday afternoon. In fairness, of the three sessions in which I appeared on his show, this was probably the least interesting. I haven’t seen it yet, but I found some of the questions boring.
Keith says
It is apparent that the Republicans have become the white nationalist party. Their voter suppression bills that limit access to the polls for people of color is example one, and Tucker’s lies defending an insurrection attempt are not far behind.
CG says
19 hours after the booster shot and suddenly I got the chills now. This did not happen the last times and I would have thought it would have started earlier if at all. This is probably a message from above that I should not be posting here.
Of course I encourage everyone to get all vaccinations. Temporary side effects will be mild and temporary.
My Name Is Jack says
I got my booster about a month ago.
While I experienced no side effects from the first two shots,I did experience some fatigue from the booster. It lasted around 12 hours after r so.
Zreebs says
Incredibly, I did not experience any symptoms from any of my three shots.
I get my flu shot this week.
Ghost of SE says
So, is it mandatory that one has to wait four weeks between booster and a flu shot? Because that was a conclusion I drew from a perhaps not comprehensive reading of the paperwork I had to do a week back.
CG says
There’s no counter-interaction (or whatever the word is). You can get them the same day. I got my flu shot exactly two weeks before the Booster. My arm has been messed up but that’s probably because of something else after a couple days.
Zreebs says
My primary physician had recommended a lag between Covid and the flu shot. I don’t recall the reason he gave, but it might have been unique to me because of my pre-existing condition.
Keith says
We get ours tomorrow at 12:40 and 12:45 from Kaiser (ten million Californians in our system) and if experience repeats itself our shots will be right on time.
That’s how we roll here in the Socialist Republic of California.
Perhaps Corey should cut a PSA for the benefits of vaccination for his fellow Republicans.
Oh, for the record, I never pled guilty to anything, not even a traffic ticket. Once again, although it won’t stop the lies, I could never have had a top secret security clearance if it I had ever pled guilty to a felony.
Now I know our friend gets a stiffy when we have this type of “when did you stop beating your wife” conversation. But he’s lying when he makes these and other victim like accusations of me, accusations no one seems to remember.
And for the record, I still get along very well with my ex-wife. She’s coming to our holiday party. 60 people, all vaccinated science believers, will be attending.
Ghost of SE says
The booster gave me the same side effect as what I had the first time. The second shot I had to call out of work over because I had substantial chills and other issues.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
From what I’ve seen and heard, it’s perfectly fine to get a ‘flu shot and a Covid vaccination at the same time on the same day in the same place. Apparently, however, you get the shots in different arms.
