They want it done as soon as possible to lock in things and end the internal political bickering that has played out in the media for the last few weeks….
They would also like to be able to crow about a ‘win’ for the Democratic voters going to vote in the Virginia Governors election….
House Democratic leaders are telling lawmakers they plan to pass both a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill and a $1.75 trillion social spending bill as early as Tuesday, two sources familiar with the conversations tell Axios.
Why it matters: It’s a very ambitious timeline, but leadership is eager to deliver a win to President Biden while he meets with world leaders in Europe.
- This would mark dramatic progress since the president left the country on Thursday with only a deal on a framework for his massive social spending bill, but no votes.
What we’re hearing: House leadership told the committees they have until Sunday to finish making changes to the Build Back Better bill, a leadership aide tells Axios.
- Then the House Rules Committee would meet as soon as Monday to mark up the package, and a floor vote would happen as soon as Tuesday.
- The aide emphasized the schedule is “not set in stone yet.”
Between the lines: If Democrats succeed, the votes would coincide with a gubernatorial election in Virginia that politicians view as a referendum on Biden’s first year in office.
- Though Virginia has trended Democratic in recent cycles and went for Biden by 10 points in 2020, former Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe is locked in a dead heat with Republican Glenn Youngkin.
- Biden himself pled with House Democrats during a caucus meeting on Thursday that the fate of the two packages will be key to the electoral success of his administration and congressional Democrats….

It seems that things are STILL fluid on the Biden bill’s….
House Democrats are eyeing Tuesday as the day to pass a bill on the framework and a bipartisan infrastructure measure. House Democratic leaders told committees they had to finish any changes to the spending bill by Sunday and that the House Rules committee could meet as soon as Monday to consider the pared-down $1.7 trillion package.
Sanders, the chair of the Senate Budget Committee, told host Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union” that he and other Democrats are working this weekend to “strengthen” the social spending package and add provisions that will help lower the cost of prescription drugs, after such initiatives were left out of the White House’s framework last week due to internal disagreements between moderates and progressives….
…
There’s also the matter of getting all Senate Democrats on board. Moderate Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), both of whom have held up negotiations for weeks, have not yet expressed support for the White House’s reconciliation framework, though they did sound positive last week….

Democrats will get little credit when this bill is passed .
Indeed no one will even notice any benefits accruing therefrom for several years .

Democrats SHOULD embark upon a ‘unprecedented effort to inform the public of things that will coming THEIR way that Republicans will say they did trying to get credit!
I believe the compliant was that Obama and Biden didn’t do so with Obamacare letting GOPer’s define the program negatively….
I hope this goround Democrats have learned their lesson and scream from the highest hilss and media rooms of their efforts
Again?
Trump is ALREADY shit canning the effort

Recent article echoed what I had said weeks ago, Biden should be cancelling 10K student debt now as a way to get benefits to people that could use the money..and this doesn’t have to be approved by Manchin or Sinema…I think 50K is too high, but 10K is what he said, and if anyone has paid loans for more than 8-10 years and borrowed over 25K you know 10K would just be covering the interest on the loans…It’s a no brainer, the only thing I could think holding him back is timing and with a. real focus towards the 2022 elections, otherwise, why not be done with it…

I do NOT think Biden is forgive a nickel in stident loans…..
The best bet is in having the Ed Dept honor the spirit on the program that grants forgivness for those civil servants that male 120 payments
Pelosi has been on his case about this and he throws back to Congress….
Biden wants no part of this sadly

Manchin getting squeezed….
If he gets a infrastructure bill vote?
He wouldn’t have to vote on any social stuff in the reconciliation bill ?
Manchin Demands House Vote on Infrastructure Bill
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said that it is “time to vote” on the bipartisan infrastructure bill and that “holding this bill hostage is not going to work in getting my support for the reconciliation bill.”
He added that he won’t support a reconciliation bill without greater clarity: “Simply put, I will not support a bill that is this consequential without thoroughly understanding the impact that it will have on our national debt, our economy, and most importantly, all of our American people.”
