Media focus is on the Florida Republican governor possibly running against Donald Trump in 2024…
But DeSantis says no…..
Just Governor….
DeSantis and Mike Pence poll the closest to Trump and lead the Republican early field if Trump does not run again…
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced this week he is running for reelection and isn’t considering “anything beyond” the governorship right now.
DeSantis made the remarks in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, who brought up the 2024 presidential election.
“I’m not considering anything beyond doing my job,” DeSantis said on “Hannity” Thursday night. “We’ve got a lot of stuff going on in Florida. I’m going to be running for reelection next year and we’re also working on a lot of things in the state beyond just the governor’s race.”
DeSantis left the possibility of a 2024 run open, saying it’s “way down the road. It’s not anything that I’m planning for.”
The governor said he is focused on Florida right now and has his eye on other elections in the Sunshine State besides the gubernatorial one…

A new twist as to a future DeSantis candidacy is the announcement today that his wife has breast cancer.
What effect,if any, that will have on his future plans remains to be seen.
Keith says
The death rate from COVID in Florida is 50 times that of the entire nation of Australia, yet Ron has no problem complaining about that country’s restrictions.
Do we think that a person who has literally helped kill his constituents cares if someone has cancer? Even his wife?
As they say about Florida, “it’s not the humidity, it’s the stupidity!”
jamesb says
According to the reported numbers in the Wash Post…..
Florida case numbers have dropped 32%…..
Link….
Keith says
So? A third less of an out of control death rate. Are you defending DeSantis?
My Name Is Jack says
James thinks DeSantis is the “great hope” of getting rid of Trump.
He doesn’t necessarily like him ,but his obsession with Trump is so great that he will grab at anything even a no good bastard like DeSantis.
Personally, I think DeSantis is MORE dangerous than Trump who is just a grifter. This guy is a true Right Wing ideologue with strong authoritarian tendencies
jamesb says
Actually Jack?
Biden probably WOULD do better against tge guy he beat by 7 million votes
But yea
Trump’s fickedupness i DO NOT want coming back
jamesb says
Nope
I DID say i hope he loses his job….
His way of handling the pandemic was political and NOT helpful….
I hope his wife beats the cancer
Zreebs says
Florida’s per capita death rate from COVID is one of the highest in the country and there is reason to believe the death count is more understated in Florida than in most states.
jamesb says
Z?
Ur a numbers guy
The ‘reported’ numbers fir Florida reflect a significant drop in cases….
Less cases mean less death’s one would assume
U might rake the time to read the NYTimes link….
The virus data CLEARLY shows a drop in infections across the country and world…
DeSantis handled things politically
Yes…..
But infection rate ‘reported’ shows a 1/3 drop in cases again….
It’s all there in black snd white….
Zreebs says
You keep regularly crowing that infections are down. But the number of deaths is still averaging around 1500 every day – which from my perspective is still exceedingly high and at a number that was unimaginable 12 months ago. I’m not sure why you are so happy. It’s not like this is the first or second time that the number of Cases Is down.
Keith says
Right now Florida accounts for nearly 13% of all the deaths in the United States. Not a pretty number, and the panhandle of the State is significantly under vaccinated — a time bomb waiting to go off.
Combine that with the fact the the State clearly undercounted deaths and you have the makings of a disaster.
I believe that since James clearly isn’t vaccinated he looks for “good’ news only, even when there isn’t any to report and tries to both paint a happy face and change the subject from his own ignorance and prejudice against science.
People who aren’t vaccinated are the worst kind of citizen, selfish and completely uninterested in helping the fellow human beings.
Zreebs is both a numbers guy and a kind caring human being. He understands how dangerous the unvaccinated are to their fellow human beings.
jamesb says
For Z and Keith.…..
In the past week in the U.S. …
New daily reported cases fell 10.1%
New daily reported deaths fell 8.1%
Covid-related hospitalizations fell 11.8%
Link….
In the past week in Florida…
New daily reported cases fell 38%
New daily reported deaths fell 28.6%
Covid-related hospitalizations fell 24.7%
Link…
jamesb says
The virus IS receding across the country right now….
One hopes it continues downward to a level that things can go more back to some sort of normal…
There is nothing wrong with being positive.…
Zreebs says
Suggesting that the virus is going away when it most likely is not might needlessly kill people who might let down their guard. Of course people who are unvaccinated might have already killed people without knowing it. But I doubt this concerns them since they feel it is their right to put other people at risk in the first place. Teachings morality to adults is not easy.
Zreebs says
And in the past week, the number of deaths in the US topped 700,000 – the most in the world, An absolutely incredible number for a disease we had never heard of two years ago and a disease we thought would go away at the beginning of the year. Hard to believe that the US performance in controlling the virus has been so poor.
The daily reported cases is meaningless since a lot of people don’t know they are infected, and others who believe they are infected but don’t have major symptoms don’t go to the hospital or even get checked to see if they are infected.
Keith says
The irony of someone arguing that “things are getting better” over a life threatening pandemic when that person refuses to get vaccinated is astounding. Especially when they are arguing with someone who is actually battling a life threatening disease.
Get vaccinated James!
Interesting fact, 92% of all Democrats are vaccinated, but only 55% of Republicans are.
What does that say?
jamesb says
That virus cases, hospital stays and deaths ARE declining………

Florida Gov race update…
The race for Florida governor is entering a new, more hectic phase —– one that threatens to further complicate Democrats’ path to ousting Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) in 2022.
With state Sen. Annette Taddeo’s long-anticipated entrance into the Democratic primary field this week, the party is staring down a potentially contentious nominating contest that could hobble its ability to coalesce behind a single candidate to take on DeSantis, a rising Republican star and one of the left’s most detested boogeymen.
At the same time, Democrats are grappling with a deep financial disadvantage against the sitting governor that could make it difficult to compete next year, especially if no single candidate breaks away from the pack before the 2022 primary. DeSantis’s political committee has more than $58 million in the bank — roughly 20 times as much as his nearest Democratic rivals…

Florida Gov polling Update…..
DeSantis Holds Big Leads In Florida
A new Mason-Dixon poll in Florida shows Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) leading Charlie Crist (D) in the gubernatorial race, 51% to 43%.
DeSantis also leads Nikki Fried (D) in another possible match up, 53% to 42%.
In the Democratic primary, Crist is the clear favorite over Fried, 44% to 27%, with 26% still undecided.
jamesb says
I hope she pulls thru and her husband loses his bit for re-election
Keith says
Well, there’s being positive. And there is something wrong with being positive with COVID.
Do we have to keep reminding James that the non-vaccinated are more likely to actually come down with this virus?
It’s sad that he tries to wish this pandemic away by being positive rather than take proactive steps like getting a shot.
