Driving the news: According a new quarterly survey released today by the National Association of Business Economists, a record high 58% of respondents increased pay at their firms during the third quarter — and nearly the same share expects to do so again in the coming months.
Why it matters: Strong demand in the U.S. economy is underpinning rising wages as well as continued hiring plans on the part of business leaders. But rising business costs — for things ranging from labor to raw materials — have some economists on alert for spiking inflation trends.

Dr. Scott Gottlieb, who served as FDA Commissioner from 2017-2019 , a regular contributor on CNBC and Face The Nation.A Republican,Gottlieb is a major proponent of vaccination and offers blunt advice and predictions.Hes been mostly right ,except that he was a little too sanguine about Delta.He believes this is the last great wave and the Covid will now settle into a persistent threat with occasional regional outbreaks .Supports local mandates based on local spreads.
Dr Eric Topol,A Scoentist -Physician, who blames the unvaccinated for the spread and deaths of late.Not political at all ,he seems amazed that people don’t get vaccinated and is somewhat of a pessimist about a quick ending of all this.
Dr Leann Wenn , a public health professor and regular contributor on CNN.She is the most cautious of the ones I read.Says vaccination is the only way out of this and a big supporter of mandates
Dr Monica Gandhi ,an infectious diseases doctor at the Univ. Of California , is more optimistic about the longevity of vaccination immunity and believes they will likely be able to counter threats from variants
I occassionally check out Dr. Marty Makary, a Fox News mainstay, he was totally wrong with his prediction that Covid would be “mostly gone” by last April.Best known for blaming everything on the government.I guess that’s why he’s on Fox.
There are others out there but these are the ones I check daily.Often , there is a lot of medical jargon that I am unfamiliar with ;however, there is a lot of useful information too.
My conclusion from my viewing of these?The unvaccinated are not only a threat to themselves but others as well and mandates are going to be necessary if we are ever going to get back to some degree of normalcy.

The unvaccinated are still spreading this virus James. That is just a fact, and you are unvaccinated. Although I am sure none of us understand why, or why you don’t have the balls to defend you decision to be irresponsible.

Cases are falling.Thats a good thing but does that necessarily indicate the pandemic is over?No.
Remember in May?Daily cases fell almost to 10000 a day and many were confident, predicting the worst were behind us.There was talk about a “delta” variant in Great Britain but we were told it probably wouldn’t be that bad here ,mainly local outbreaks.
That was wrong.
Instead it was a” wave “not quite as bad as last winter but bad enough.
Was this the last “wave” and will Covid just become endemic ,with an outbreak here and there,That’s the consensus of late .Maybe, maybe not.
There’s already talk of a “delta plus” variant in Britain.Will it spread here?
My point being that,despite all we have learned, scientists readily concede that there is much they don’t know.For example they have no real explanation for why it is receding now.Lots of theories,no definitive answers.The only thing they agree about is that the more people vaccinated the better protected we are .
I’m glad things are cooling down presently.Howevet, just reciting that fact and then jumping to the conclusion that things are going to continue to improve is not justified yet given events of the recent past.
Accordingly ,the pandemic continues and as long as it does?It is difficult to see a good road ahead.
When Biden was inaugurated I commented that unless this pandemic was brought under control he would have problems.He is and he will.Is it his fault?Of course not and likely no one could have done any better.
The American people though want solutions, even though a substantial number of them tefuse to get vaccinated which continues and will continue to prolong our present predicament.In essence those who refuse to get vaccinated and continue to either downplay the virus itself or claim it is going away need only to look in the mirror to see the real problem.
