Busy on the Republican side….
No announcement on the Democratic side….
This from RRH Elections….
TX-Gov: Rumors are circulating in The Lone Star State that ex-State House Speaker Joe Straus (R) is considering a third party or independent bid for governor against incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott (R). Straus served five terms as the State House Speaker before his retirement in 2019. Straus’ gubernatorial bid could be independent or could be under a new third party banner called SAM (Serving America Movement). SAM is an anti-Trump outfit begun in New York in 2017 and now headed up by ex-Rep. David Jolly (R->I). On the Democratic side, no declared gubernatorial candidate has yet to emerge. Ex-Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D) is still on the sidelines and flirting with a candidacy. Actor Matthew McConaughey is apparently still considering a bid as well. Some Lone Star Democrats were hoping ex-Austin Mayor and state Sen. Kirk Watson (D) would consider challenging Abbott but he seems intent on running for his old job of Mayor of the Texas Capital.

Greg Abbott’s Approval Rating Wanes
A new Texas Politics Project poll finds Gov. Greg Abbott’s approval has sunk to 41% to 50%, with 52% of voters saying the state is headed in the wrong direction.
Ghost of SE says
In a politically fertile state like Texas, you might finally see someone serious challenging Abbott. To date, no one’s announced a bid.
