Thus changing the comments his boss President Biden made recently that ‘some might NOT get out’…..
And this IS a acknowledgement that Biden is coming to realise that the situation on the ground IN Afghanistan will dictate things not his haste to leave….
Joe Biden did NOT create the Afghan policy since 2001…
But once he dwcisied to leave?
The situation became HIS…
Every time he says he wants out yesterday?
(He appears to have got the message and has stopped)
He gets blow back….
He continued: “And we are not going to rest until we have followed through on getting visas to all of those people and getting them on planes and getting them out of the country.”
Sullivan’s message is on par with President Joe Biden’s vow on Friday to evacuate all Afghan allies of the U.S. who are seeking protection from the Taliban. In that same address, Biden indicated he may be willing to expand the U.S. military presence in the city of Kabul beyond just the international airport, where all evacuations are taking place.
Biden also said last week he would extend his self-imposed Aug. 31 deadline for pulling all troops out of Afghanistan if the evacuation operations were not yet completed.
Sullivan didn’t say how many Afghans still needed to be evacuated from the country. He also declined to give a precise number for how many Americans and legal permanent residents are currently awaiting evacuation in Afghanistan, but said, “We believe it is several thousand Americans who we are working with now to try to get safely out of the country.”
He added that the Biden administration has been in contact with “a few thousand Americans” and is “communicating with them by email, by telephone, by text message” to try to get them safely to the airport in Kabul and out of the country.
“We’ve already spoken with nearly all of them over past 24, 48 hours. We’ll be making a plan for you to come to the airport, and we have secured the capacity to get large numbers of Americans safe passage through to the airport and onto the air field,” Sullivan said. “The goal here is to move people as rapidly and safely and efficiently as possible. That’s what we’re doing.”
He also said the Biden administration is taking the threat of a potential ISIS attack on the Kabul airport and its surroundings “absolutely deadly seriously,” and that they are talking with the Taliban through military channels to ensure safe passage of Americans and Afghans to the airport….
Note…
While some Democrats wanted Sullivan gone to cover for Biden’s miscue’s on the evacuations …
Others have pushed for National Security Advisor Sullivan to be used more in the media….

In addition to the above….
Sullivan has indicated that this boss , The President, is NOW ‘asking’ the Pentagon if they need more troops at Kabul Airport….
“Every single day the president asks his military commanders, including those at the airport and those at the Pentagon, whether they need additional resources, additional troops. So far, the answer has been no, but he will ask again today,” Sullivan said on NBC News’s “Meet the Press.”…

Good News for Biden?
Swing-District Democrat Brushes Off Afghanistan
“Republican efforts to saddle the Democrats with fallout from the fall of Kabul won’t necessarily fly with voters — or instill fears in midterm candidates,” Axios reports.
“Axios traveled to Virginia’s 7th District last week, where Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) is running for re-election in a bellwether district. She focused solely on selling President Biden’s stimulus package and the bipartisan infrastructure deal still working its way through Congress.”
“In conversations the congresswoman had with her Richmond-area constituents, Afghanistan didn’t come up.”
( I have said here all along …Biden messed up…But he HAS my vote no problem…)

Not strictly on point but somewhat relevant….
In my daily conversations with various people ,only one person has mentioned Afghanistan and he is a Republican who voted for Trump. He said Biden did the right thing.Everyone I talk with only mentions the pandemic.
I am enjoying this rather odd disconnect in polling whereby overwhelming majorities support getting out of Afghanistan but don’t like the “way” it was done, yet they have no idea how it should have been done.Echoes of here.

Truthfully, I don’t believe a withdrawal from a country with such an unpopular, corrupt and inept government could have been effective, even under the best of circumstances.
I understand James wants to repeat himself on a daily basis (as if it is just once a day!) about something related to enjoying a shit sandwich, but I assume he continually does this just to be condescending and to irritate us. I read no more than 10% of his posts. So James, please don’t reply. The last thing in the world I want is to be brought into another discussion with you. I usually look to read what other posters have written, but James makes that difficult to do because all eight if the comments on the bottom are usually from him, and even if I read them, I can usually only guess what he is trying to say anyway.

Afghanistan IS a MAJOR happening for American, Europe and the Middle East…..
We do NOT have blinder for things past our borders…..
I will continue to report on the Afghan. situation as do other media…..
I ALSO report on other evens here and abroad….
It IS what this place IS about….
I understand and respect that some may NOT like that….

The above comment makes no sense.

James NEVER understands my points, and he has difficulty understanding what others say too. So he compensates by implying that others said things they didn’t. In this case, he appears to suggest I do not want him discussing “evens here and abroad”. I never implied that discussing events was somehow inappropriate.

“I will continue to report on the Afghan situation as do OTHER MEDIA(emphasis added)”….
Apparently he is so delusional that he equates a blog visited daily by six or seven people as part of the “media.”
Zreebs says
Hundreds, maybe more than a thousand view the blog each day waiting to read James’s reports, and not just people in the USA.
Ghost of SE says
He probably does fancy himself a regular Taegan Goddard/Arianna Huffington/Charlie Cook type, at the very least. But then, get a blog successful enough, and it can join the shoulder-padded ranks of media mavens. Just ask Breitbart.

The Taliban have sentenced the brother of an Afghan translator to death, according to letters obtained by CNN, accusing him of helping the US and providing security to his brother, who served as an interpreter to American troops.
A former service member who worked with the translator confirmed his service and his brother’s plight.
The letters are just one example of how the Taliban are directly threatening Afghans who worked with the US or are family members of those who have, leaving them scrambling to flee the country in the wake of the Taliban takeover.
“You have been accused of helping the Americans,” the Taliban wrote in the first of three letters to the Afghan man, adding, “You are also accused of providing security to your brother, who has been an interpreter.”
The first letter from the Taliban, which is hand written, orders the man to appear for a hearing.
The second handwritten letter is a notice of his failure to appear for the hearing.
In the third letter, which is typed, the Taliban notify the man that because he rejected previous warnings to stop “your servitude to the invading crusaders” and ignored a subpoena to appear for a hearing, he was “guilty in absentia” and will be sentenced to death.
The Taliban delivered the letters within the last three months to the interpreter’s brother, according to the former service member who worked with the interpreter.
