With that much support for mask wearing “after” the pandemic,it is passing strange that Republican politicians like Ron DeSantis are so viciously opposed to mask mandates “during” the pandemic.
Actually those numbers look highly suspect to me.
I just heard from an old friend from DC who has been vaccinated for months now and, since he retired to Florida, very careful in public places (he still wears a mask indoors) who has tested positive for the virus.
Ah, Florida. They don’t call him Governor DeathSantis for nothing.
Yes Florida now has the third highest rate of Covid infections in the world.
What kind of vicious individual would prohibit local school districts from adopting mask ordinances in a desperate attempt to allow schools to stay open?
It was even too much for Republican Senator Bill Cassidy of La. who has endorsed letting local officials make these kinds of decisions.
One would think Republicans,who are always babbling about local control, would support leaving these type matters up to local governments.Just another example of how conservativism is bunk,Their so called “beliefs” take a back seat to the Right Wing line whatever it my be.Masks are a particular source of hate for the Right Wing.
I bet the trash is eating up DeSantis’s “Don’t Fauci With My Florida” cups.
Their hatred is so illogical it defies all rational explanation.

A case can be made that DeSantis is more dangerous than Trump because he is smarter. Like Trump, it is all about what is best for him personally and not what is best for society. Trump often got himself into trouble with self-inflicted wounds. That won’t happen as much with DeSantis.

Before Covid hit, DeSantis was one of America’s most popular Governor’s, with over 2/3 approval. Even now, with the fallout over his handling of mask restrictions and such, he’s a distinct favorite to be re-elected.
And he would be WAY stronger than Trump in 2024. Unlike most, I possess no illusions about the bulk of Trump hating Conservatives, those who voted for him and those who did not. They mostly are varying degrees of anti vaccine and anti mask and spread like jelly the paranoid, irrational fears over lockdowns and Biden’s true motives with such. Just look at lowlife Meagan McCain’s Twittering Minstrel Show. Couple that with the GOP opportunities with Minority voters, especially in the Pentecostal Iglesia circles, and DeSantis could carry the popular vote. Scary.

Yes DeSantis ordered the state agency to quit reporting daily data on Covid after Politico ran a puff piece about what a great job he had done during the pandemic.

The survey from the COVID-19 Consortium for Understanding the Public’s Policy Preferences Across States shows that Rhode Island residents gave vaccinated people a score of 83, the third-highest in the country behind Massachusetts and Vermont, which tied with an 84.
