Joe Biden has bet the farm on this….
He’ll get it in the end…..
Below we link up complaints from the House where the Democratic Speaker can do mostly what she wants and the Senate where Democrats MUST compromise with Republicans with such a narrow marjority and their rules….
Pelosi is trying assure that Biden gets TWO bills done….
One on Infrastructure and another on Social assistance for Americans….
Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), a member of the bipartisan group of senators working on a massive infrastructure bill, on Sunday said he believes the legislation will be ready on Monday after it failed a first vote on the Senate floor last week.
Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Warner was asked by host Martha MacCallum if the senators would “have that bill in place for everybody to look at” Monday.
“I believe we will,” Warner said. “The one thing I hear all across Virginia in the last couple of days: People want us to invest in our infrastructure.”
“If you step back, you know, we have actually are investing at about half the rate that we invested in our infrastructure as we did in the 1990s,” he added.
The Senate last week voted against beginning debate on infrastructure….
….
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Rob Portman clashed Sunday over the next steps for the bipartisan infrastructure package.
During separate appearances on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” Pelosi and Portman (R-Ohio), the lead GOP negotiator for the bipartisan infrastructure talks, offered dueling views as to when the bipartisan package should head to President Joe Biden’s desk for a signature.
Pelosi said Sunday that while House Democrats are “rooting for the infrastructure bill to pass,” she reiterated her pledge that the House will not take it up unless the Senate also passes a separate $3.5 trillion social spending package.
“The fact is that the president has said he wants to have a bipartisan bill, and we all do, but that is not the limitation of the vision of the president,” Pelosi said. “I won’t put it on the floor until we have the rest of the initiative.”
Portman, however, responded that Pelosi’s remarks are “entirely counter to what President Biden has committed to” and “inconsistent with the agreement we have on a bipartisan basis.” He further warned that if Pelosi “has her way we could” end up with nothing.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has outlined a “two-track” strategy for passing a bipartisan physical infrastructure package and a social spending package that’s expected to get through with only Democratic support. The social spending package includes key Democratic policies to address issues such as climate change, child care and Medicare….
House Democrats have voiced complaints about the Senate dictating things….
Legislation usually emanates from the House…
But this time?
Republican have their political strength in the Senate which had Biden and VP Harris as members in the past….
Despite the noise?
There REALLY isn’t much House Democrats can do about this……
Because for passage in the Senate ?
Biden and Democrats NEED the votes of moderate Senate Democrats like Manchin and Sinema who will NOT entertain some of wish list some progressive’s want…
“While we are eager for it to pass, we will not be taking it up until the Senate passes the reconciliation bill. And the timing of that, of course, is up to the Senate,” Pelosi said.
Hoyer predicted that Democrats will face pressure from the Senate not to make any changes once the infrastructure measures reach the House, likely leading to consternation in their ranks.
“I don’t think the House is gonna be very happy with a take it or leave it bill,” Hoyer said.
But he acknowledged that “ultimately we will deal with the art of the possible, not the art of the preferable.”…..
