She has stuck to getting a Congressional Report on the incidents during January 6, 2021 Capitol protest that turned into a ugly violent overrun of the US Congress’s Office….
House Minority leader McCarthy’s action seem to be a effort to hide from the reality of what happened for political sake…
Props to Pelosi in a pursuit of some truth….
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday said the panel looking into the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol “will not let” GOP “antics stand in the way” of the investigation, offering her first detailed remarks on her rejection of two Republican lawmakers for the committee.
“It’s my responsibility as Speaker of the House to make sure we get to the truth on this, and we will not let their antics stand in the way of that,” Pelosi said at a press conference on Thursday.
Drama unfolded on Wednesday after Pelosi announced that she was rejecting two of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) five nominees, Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Jim Banks (R-Ind.)….
…
Pelosi said statements and actions from Banks and Jordan, two staunch Trump defenders on Capitol Hill, “make it impossible for them to exercise judgment.”
“Again, this is about seeking the truth, and it’s about not, as I said in my comment, with respect to the integrity of the investigation, with concern that the American people want to know the truth, and in light of statements and actions taken by them, I could not appoint them. I said that while this may be unprecedented, so was an attack on the Capitol,” she continued.
At a different point in the press conference, Pelosi said it would be “ridiculous to put them on such a committee seeking the truth” in light of their actions and statements.
The Speaker also rejected the idea that she based her opposition to the two lawmakers on their votes against certifying the election. The mob attack on Jan. 6 sought to block Congress from formalizing Biden’s electoral victory….
New Open Thread is HERE….
There IS a Republican on the committee…..
McCarthy, the GOP leader, pulled his party’s people…
AGAIN….
This is a attempt at a cover-up of what actually went down on Jan.6…..
Nothing MORE….
Nothing LESS….
Pelosi should put even more Republicans on the committee, but that’s not going to stop the messaging from McCarthy, et al.
Fan of Pelosi like you are giving her an attagirl
Fans of Trump are going to give McCarthy an attaboy.
Both sides think they are “winning”
I just wish there was an easier way of getting to the truth about *everything* related to 1/6, including the roles of Trump and Pelosi leading up to that day and on that day. An independent commission would have been far preferable, but Republicans cowardly stopped that.
Also worth mentioning of course that the Justice Department has been and is continuing to investigate and prosecute criminal activity related to those events and substantively, that is the most important thing to do.
Your comment points all the more for the House Report as a comprehensive overview….
One of the witnesses to the Capitol Insurrection Hearing just said, “when a hitman is arrested for the crime of murder the person who hired that hitman is also arrested and charged. I want the person that hired these hitmen to also face justice.”
Question: why are the Republicans so afraid of these hearings?
Busy day for me…
Will post later….
Good Afternoon everyone…..
Ok….
I have time to do the House story…
Cuz they ARE implicated…
Nancy Pelosi Outplays Kevin McCarthy Again

This piece is only available to Political Wire members.
When Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) rejected two of the Republican picks for the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol attack, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) retaliated by boycotting the committee altogether, withdrawing his other three picks.
That night, many political pundits suggested Pelosi had stepped too far.
CNN’s Chris Cillizza declared that Pelosi’s decision “dooms even the possibility of the committee’s eventual findings being seen as independent.”
Politico‘s Rachel Bade said Pelosi’s move “is going to be a gift to Kevin McCarthy in the long run. He wanted this panel to look partisan and political. Now it’s definitely going to look partisan and political.”
Substantively this argument never made sense. Why would anyone investigating the insurrection include “pro-insurrection” lawmakers on the committee?
But the argument made no sense politically either and today’s first hearing proved that.
In an attempt to distract from the compelling testimony at the Capitol, House GOP leaders held a press conference to implausibly blame Pelosi herself for the riots. Meanwhile, a fringe group of Republicans got run out of their own press conference which was intended to suggest jailed rioters were somehow “political prisoners.”
It’s pretty obvious that Pelosi knew exactly what she was doing by rejecting McCarthy’s picks. And she likely predicted exactly how McCarthy would respond too.
With many months of hearings and dozens of subpoenas ahead, Republicans are now relegated to the sidelines while Americans begin to learn what happened that day.
Pelosi IS running circles around the guy…..
I DO hope she does not retire until after the 2024 election is over….
You have been saying the exact opposite James.
Make up your mind.
But the idea
The idea that Nancy needs to put more Republicans, especially those who tried to overthrow our election, remains ridiculous.
Nearly half of House Republicans refuse to sate publicly whether they are vaccinated.
I think folks need to remember that there was a non-partisan agreement on a panel that would have undertaken a completely impartial investigation into the Republican insurrection on January 6th.
McCarthy and McConnell after entering into negotiations to form this panel then, as they usually do with most agreements, blew it up. So, Pelosi was forced to form her own panel. McCarthy, after consultations with Donald Trump, then put at least two insurrections on the panel to possibly investigate their own traitorous actions.
Now Tucker Carlson is going after the Capitol Hill Police and trying to smear them. So, while everyone will of course go to their corner on the outcome of this investigation, I believe that it will have serious impact on the next election. Educated voters, not those inclined to vote Republican, will be paying close attention. The panel, with Liz Cheney on it, will have the ability to subpoena people to testify about their actions. It will make for great drama, great campaign commercials, but it will get to the truth of how many Republicans Members of Congress were involved with the planning of this attempt to overthrow our government.
I hope ur right Keith
The actions on that day cannot just be ‘forgotten’ like Trump tries to do on some many things….
Morning All….
Hmmmm?
Pelosi Considers Adding Republicans to Select Committee
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) signaled she’s considering adding more Republican members to the select committee to investigate the Jan 6. Capitol attack, Axios reports.
When asked whether she would appoint Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), Pelosi replied: “We’ll see.”
Caroline Kennedy up for Biden Australian US Amb job….
A HEARTY Good Morning to all who come to this place!

The US gets its first Gold Medal in women swim
Morning….
Newest past-time for the Trump Cultists?
Rooting against the U.S. Olympians.
As far as I can tell the vaccinated Trump made no mention of COVID nor did he encourage attendees–most of whom are probably unvaxxed–to get the shot developed on his watch.
I wonder why?
Morning All….

Fox & Friends thinks violent crime is up because too many people are smoking weed and having psychotic breaks. (h/t
@tylermonroe7
)
and that was just among the MAGA crowd that stormed the Capitol.
They are exempt…..
Violent, psychotic weed-smokers nonetheless
While Hashish (a stronger form of cannabis) has a bad reputation, weed has always had the reputation (and for most, the experience) of relaxing — the reason that hard-working straight Middle America (of all colors) hated weed is that it could make its consumers too mellow and apathetic.
But — FOX News exclusive !!! — that’s what causes all this crime.
Former Sen Mike Enzi of Wyoming has died after injuries suffered in a bicycle accident. He was 77 years old. RIP.
The new CDC guidelines sound like a mess.
What they are saying seems similar to, “Safe, law-abiding drivers should remain off the road in case a drunk driver hits them and the drunk driver gets injured.”
Being in an area of high spread and virus spreaders, I have resumed wearing a mask indoors ,although fully vaccinated.
Meanwhile ,about a month ago ,S.C. Gov.Henry McMaster gave himself an “A” for his handling of the pandemic in the state .When last heard from HankMac was criticizing the Biden Administration for trying to “intimidate “ the virus spreaders into getting vaccinated . That was several weeks ago before the latest wave burst forth.
HankMac hasn’t been heard from since then,
Any county near me that I may in is yellow according to the CDC map. Imagine that.
Based on what they are saying now, some people will feel the need to wear masks for years or decades, even though it will not make a difference in the health of the mask-wearer and the others have every opportunity to protect themselves otherwise.
Biden will be mandating vaccination for all federal workers.
Can’t imagine that would happen if we had a Republican President now.
This whole situation, regardless of whose “fault” it is, has now become a tremendous political failure and problem for the Biden Administration.
He was quite insistent in May that masks were over for the fully vaccinated. He basically said the same thing last week on his televised Town Hall. As is usually the case, Presidents get credit or blame for what is going on in the country and how people feel. There were (different) strategies and techniques that should have been done and could have been done to convince more African-Americans and more Trumpists to get the shot.
My main concern is that the message that fully vaccinated people should wear masks for a very long time is going to make all the people who still need to be vaccinated far less likely to do so now, and if booster shots turn out to be needed, people will skip those too.
Mandates will make people get vaccinated. Get the shot or lose your job. Vaccination rates go up and masks come off again. Simple as that.
And of course the main reason I’m OK with a mask mandate even for us vaccinated folks–is that kids 12 and under still can’t get the vaccine. As soon as they can I see no need to protect the stupid and stubborn.
It is virtually impossible for a vaccinated person to transmit to a kid under 12. The problem is with the unvaccinated who are eligible.
Geraldo Rivera wants the virus spreaders banned from restaurants.
He wants to revise the common sign seen in many eating establishments. to…
No Shirt
No Shoes
No Vaccination
No Service
Shirts and shoes are visible. How do you visualize a vaccinated person?
I think government mandates will make people dig in and be less likely to get vaccinated.
I think we all should have a strong enough understanding of the Constitution to know that there is no way to make someone get a vaccine. You all are supposed to believe in Roe v Wade and the “right to privacy” I thought.
Will more people die this year from Covid or tobacco?
Every tobacco user makes their own choice and presumably knows the risks. There is no legitimate reason how they would not know the risk.
So, why not just ban all tobacco products outright? Agree or disagree?
If anything, there is no vaccine against any degree of second-hand smoke.
And the “whataboutism s” start.
When you have no answer, it’s easy to deflect. Very Trumpian in fact.
He has “fake news” You have “whataboutism”
Good Trump Republican answer there.
About what I would expect
I thought you Republicans were “pro life?”Half your party says they won’t get vaccinated which could conceivably result in their death (and has already) and by spreading the disease ,the death of others.
“Pro Life?” Yeah right!
I am consistently Pro-Life. You cannot possibly claim otherwise. I have no idea where the “Trump” angle relates to me. You would not be able to explain it. I was completely supportive of masking and social distancing regulations before vaccinations were available and all that it involved in terms of negative consequences, just because I wanted to do everything possible to protect the lives of the most vulnerable.
Abortion takes an innocent life of a baby who has no choice in the matter. Covid might take the life of someone who does have a choice in the matter and who actively puts themself at risk.
I truly do not think you spend time worrying about Republicans killing Republicans or lose any sleep over it. I am not saying you actively want it to happen, but let’s not engage in the proposition that you and others here are so worried about Trumpists maybe getting each other sick.
This “you Republicans” thing does not work. While I may be more conservative than you on various issues jack, you have voted for pro-Trump Republicans in recent elections and I have not. So this “you Republicans” putdown fits you as well as it would me.
Cow manure.
Youhave been an active member of the Republican Party for years, consistently voted for nothing but Republicans ,bragged about it in these pages,
What won’t “work” is your equating me and you in that regard because in the past I voted for a few Republicans.
You voted for Biden.Does that make you a Democrat?
Yes or No?
I have not been an “active” member of the Republican Party in years and have in fact done many things to “deactivate.”
When I was involved in the party, I was proud to be and still am.
But in terms of the Trump era, you are at least as much of a “Republican” as I am.
Voting for Biden does not make me a Democrat, but I have not and do not criticize anyone who has voted for Biden, so that differentiates us on the hypocrisy aspect.
That’s hilarious!
The ultimate “whataboutism .”
Should we ban all tobacco products or not?
Just take a stance.
Hope everyone read this exchange .
He’s not a Republican.
Although earlier today he was urging donations to two Republican Congressional candidates.
I gave the reasons why donations to the two Republicans would be a good thing and of course phrased it in the context of primaries.
But your apparent total and complete opposition to Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are duly noted.
Yet, at the same time, you will probably vote for a Red Hat Wearing MAGA bootlicker to be Agriculture Commissioner or something next year. Who knows? If McMaster’s opponent is a “bozo”, you might even vote for McMaster.
So you don’t care about the Trumpists,i.e, fellow Republicans killing each other?
I missed this post.
I would prefer they not, but at this point, it’s their choice and there is little I can do about it, just like there is little I can do about people who engage in all sort of choices I find wrong.
As for me, I will not engage in any sort of close indoor contact with any vaccine eligible person who will not tell me that they are vaccinated, but that’s far more for their sake than mine in regards to the virus.
but again, you seem to be implying that I am the same politically as a Trumpist.
Why? Shouldn’t you really know better at this point?
I have never once said “you Biden voters” here as a negative. I have said “we Biden voters” or “those of us who voted for Biden” or pointed out that all eligible voters on here voted for Biden, and have included myself. So, there is a big difference in the rhetorical choices.
Never once have I criticized anyone who voted for Hillary over Trump, even though I did not vote for Hillary.
What exactly do you suggest?
Yeah this should be good.
I can’t wait.
If this is for me, as I said different strategies could have been done. Biden should have made better public use of Obama in order to try to convince more African-Americans to be vaccinated. Did he even pick up the phone and call LeBron James in an attempt to get him onboard in a public outreach way? James (like our own james) has refused to say if he has been vaccinated. There are various things that can be done and this is where focus groups and market research come in handy, as corporate America knows.
As for the Trumpsist I have said it before.None of us would want to see Biden do it and of course Trump does not deserve, but there was far more that could have been done to kiss his ass publicly over the vaccine that would have had an impact.
Do you now repudiate your vote for Biden?
No, I stand by my vote. I always knew he would suck as President. My only motivation was that he was not Trump. I made that abundantly clear before the election.
and for the record, the “sucking” as President has little to do with Covid. That is what he is handling best in my view.
But it cannot be denied that this is going to hurt him politically. Let’s now bury our heads in the sand.
So in your opinion who was the last President who didn’t “suck”?
Obviously it was George Walker Bush.
Did you really need to ask?
Ah yes. The one who left us with a Great Recession and started a war in Iraq.
Just so we know your grading scale.
Yeah, keep fighting that battle. The differences we had at the time are truly the most relevant things these days right?
As for grading scales, we know you will say that every Republican President in your life (or a generation or so before) sucks and every Democrat President in your life was great.
I will say that in recent history both Democrats and a Republican have sucked as President. Total bipartisanship there.
(For the record, no President has been perfect and none has been with zero accomplishment)
Gerald Ford was in my lifetime and he was an awesome President.
I voted for Jimmy Carter over Ford, but i am not sure whether I would vote for him again if I could go back in time.
I think Ford should be remembered kindly by history for being the right man at the right time and helping the nation heal after Watergate. I also believe he was easily the better choice over Jimmy Carter (and George McGovern even voted for him over Carter)
However, I do not know if even one of Ford’s kids would claim he was an “awesome” President. It might be the first time such an adjective was given for his brief term, but good for Jerry.
And no, I was not alive when Ford was President, but late in that campaign season of ’76 he did make a campaign appearance at what would one day be my High School.
correction, Ford went to my future High School before the Illinois Primary in 1976.
I didn’t decide until Election Day 1976 whether or not to Get Out The Vote for Jimmy Carter (which I did that evening), because I was another here who (not knowing precisely what a Carter presidency would do) who was torn.
So was the Nation, 48.0% for Ford and less than 50.1% for Carter — 240 Electoral votes to Carter’s 297.
NO…
You have accused me of being a Trumpist because I did the same thing in a damn Supt. of Education race in S.C.
Nope…
Whatever your reason?
You must be a Biden Democrat.
I didnt say you were a Trumpist, but you did vote for them. I have not.
If you weren’t a hypocrite on this with the “You Republicans” thing, it wouldn’t even matter, but you know you are a hypocrite on this, so you get very upset when I bring it up.
Nowadays, if I am a “Republican” , and it’s a bad thing, then so are you.
If anything I would be a “Biden Republican” (the very people he owes his victory to), but I am not really a Biden fan, so it’s hard to tag that label on me either.
On HHR, I am called a Biden Democrat and worse though, if it makes you feel better.
Doesn’t make me feel better
However using your rationale that anybody who votes for a member of the other Party then becomes one?
You are.
No, I am refuting your rational that I am one of “You Republicans” (ie a Trumpist)
If you want to say “You honorable, decent patriotic Republicans”: than I will accept it. Should I take it that way?
CG, How do you define a “Trumpist”? If you voted for Trump in the 2020 Primary and 2020 General, are you a Trumpist? Or some other definition?
Somebody who likes Donald Trump, personally or politically.
I simply call them Republicans Zreebs. Those were Republicans who invaded the Capitol in January, defending their Republican President.
Good point.
Nancy Pelosi just called Kevin McCarthy a moron.
Sounds pretty accurate to me.
I was calling McCarthy a moron back in 2015
She could have added an adjective in front of that…..
I take it this means that jack considers Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger (and me) to be “Trumpists.” That’s really obtuse. Do you really think that jack?
And unlike Cheney and Kinzinger, I never voted for Trump once or even considered it.

McConnell and Paul never liked each other, and this dates back to when McConnell endorsed Paul’s primary opponent.
