The Brooklyn Borough President , ex-Cop (ex-Republicans turned Democrat) and now in line to become the next Big Apple Mayor is indeed going places…
Nationally already….
Democratic mayoral nominee Eric Adams is headed to the White House Monday to discuss ways to combat shootings with President Biden, according to a campaign source and his schedule.
Adams will meet at 12:45 p.m. with Biden to “discuss gun violence,” according to the Brooklyn borough president’s public schedule.
Adams received a congratulatory phone call from Biden after the June 22 primary, when the president thanked him for his efforts to curb gun violence, according to law enforcement sources.
Other city and law enforcement leaders — and Attorney General Merrick Garland — will be in attendance as Biden is expected to talk about the federal effort to stop the flow of illegal firearms.
Gun violence and shooting deaths have skyrocketed in major cities across the nation since the onset of the pandemic.
The surge in crime comes amid a nationwide push for police reform.
Adams, a former NYPD captain, earlier Sunday praised the president for his attention to violence in predominantly black cities, rather than solely seeking to combat the use of assault rifles, which are used in less frequent mass shootings.
“I believe those priorities, they really were misplaced, and it’s almost insulting but we have witnessed over the last few years,” Adams said.
“They knew they were dealing with this real crisis, and it took this president to state that it is time for us to stop ignoring what is happening in the South Side of Chicagos, in the Brownsvilles, in the Atlantas of our country.”….

I don’t know exactly what you mean by “going places.”
Politically, the office of Mayor of New York has not been a successful launching pad for higher office, although several former Mayors of NYC have made national runs (See Giuliani and John Lindsay) .
Having said that ,I’m certainly not surprised that the Mayor of the country’s largest city would be meeting with the President of the United States if that’s what you meant by the term,”going places.”
CG says
He will be “going” to New York City as Mayor since apparently he actually lives in New Jersey.
jamesb says
He hangs with his girl friend over there he says
He’ll get a place to live in for 4 years for free
jamesb says
Jack?
Adams is NOT the Mayor yet
I was being cute on the going places
But he’ll play well for national Democrats
Black ex-cop Democrat Big Apple Mayor tough on Crime?????
CG says
He seems to want to deliberately differentiate himself with national Democrats, and is now on a national stage to do so.
Maybe he does have a long-term plan.
CG says
What I do not understand is that he just got his ear pierced, but took the earring out for his national tv interviews yesterday.
You definitely are not supposed to do that.
CG says
I know Adams is going to win and all but isn’t a bit formally presumptuous of Biden to not also extend the invitation to discuss these matters related to the city to Curtis Sliwa and his beret?
jamesb says
I agree that inviting Abrams is politically advantageous for BOTH
CG says
Wouldn’t Sliwa have a legit gripe though? He’s been anti-crime for decades!
CG says
Sliwa has been shot five times.
CG says
Not today in NYC, in case there was any confusion.
In the past… at least he claims so, by the Gotti Crime Family.
jamesb says
Sliwa is not a serious threat
His best media days are far……Far behind him
CG says
Nobody is suggesting he is going to win, but the election has not been held yet. (If I lived there, I would probably vote for Adams in the general) Biden including his own party’s nominee but not the other party’s nominee makes it more of a political event than a governmental event.
bdog says
CG also remember it is in Biden’s interest to show strong support for pro-law enforce candidates that are considered on his team (Democrats)…why would he invite a Republican Candidate to a conference at the White House to give him any legitimacy at all…that just wouldn’t make any sense…
It is a pure political move and in reality everyone knows this race was decided the night of the Primary (which was a disaster with this ranked choice non-sense)…
Democratic Socialist Dave says
The last Mayor of New York to win a subsequent election to any public office was Ardolph Kline, who had succeeded without popular election from Alderman to Mayor for the last third of 1913, and then won re-election (but did not serve) as an Alderman rather than Mayor.
He then won election to the U.S. House of Representatives in the Harding landslide of 1920, but was defeated for re-election in 1922. His single Congressional term was one hundred years ago.
The last Mayor to win the Governorship of New York state was John T. Hoffman in 1868.
CG says
I guess I am glad to see the enthusiasm for Adams here. He is going around on national television saying national Democrats are “misguided” on gun control efforts and that the party is dismissive of blue collar voters. He is railing against urban cities overrun by violence and gangs.
Presumably, it’s now a good message coming from him, even though he kind of sounds like Trump…
CG says
I think Adams will be causing political headaches for Biden and national Democrats down the road.
CG says
Adams does not want to ban guns. He has been very clear on that. He also carries a gun himself. He wants better coordination between governments of laws that already exist involving guns and that has always been something I supported. Enforce the laws on the book. Too often, we see prosecutors, especially in cities, who do not try to lock violent criminals up.
jamesb says
And ur right CG…..
No banning
BUT?
Adams doesn’t have to talk banning
NYC has a VERY RESTRICTIVE gun license policy law……
Zreebs says
Adams has called for a special prosecutor for illegal guns. He also indicated that legislation can’t just focus on assault weapons, it must focus on handguns too. and that it is not enough for cities and states to work to reduce gun violence; legislation must be at the federal level too.
I’m pleased that CG has finally abandoned his previous moral indifference to gun deaths and now wants action taken.
jamesb says
Adams IS. Gonna be the Mayor of New York City
His gun policy won’t work in other places….
bdog says
He like Mayor Bloomberg before him is focused on the Iron Pipeline, where Handguns from from down south come into the city streets and are used in the majority of shootings…Ghost Guns are becoming more prevalent as well…
jamesb says
Yes Bdog…..
But let’s face it
U can still get an illegal handgun in NYC
AND?
Gun sales ate actually WTF UP these days
Airport gun collars get little to no jail time
America HAS a gun culture that…. is NEVER going away…..
Adams can talk about in NYC
But except for major cities?
The issued is counter productive for Democrats
BTW?
Lets see if the black Republican Senator from SC can actually get a Police Reform Bill thru Congress?
