…from Fox…
Critical race theory and how students, parents and public officials should handle it is a major topic across the country, from local school board meetings to governors’ mansions.
It was a major topic at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas as well, with two separate panels addressing the topic, including a major one scheduled for Sunday morning. The discussion, titled “Head of the Class: Why is the Left Committed to CRT When So Many Parents Disagree?” will feature high-profile speakers including Club for Growth’s David McIntosh and activist Ian Prior.
Many CPAC attendees weighed in on the topic during interviews with Fox News as well, giving their thoughts on how students, parents and public officials should handle the controversial doctrine in the classroom.
…
CPAC comes to a close Sunday, with a keynote speech from former President Donald Trump. Also expected to be major issues at the conference, and in Trump’s speech, are immigration, coronavirus health measures and potential Republican primary challenges in 2022…

CPAC Straw Poll 2024…
Trump 70%
DeSantis 21%
Others / Undecided 9%
Scott P says
Out of curiosity I looked up results from 2013 CPAC straw poll.
Rand Paul 25%
Marco Rubio 23%
jamesb says
Yea Scott and Jack didn’t mention this either…..
But when polling the 2024 Republican primary ballot without Trump, DeSantis led the pack with 68 percent of the vote…….

The nation’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said Sunday he was horrified to see attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference cheering that the U.S. hadn’t reached its vaccination goals.
“It’s horrifying. I mean, they are cheering about someone saying that it’s a good thing for people not to try and save their lives,” Fauci told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union.”
“I mean, if you just unpack that for a second, Jake, it’s almost frightening to say, ‘Hey, guess what, we don’t want you to do something to save your life. Yay!’ Everybody starts screaming and clapping. I just don’t get that,” he said. “And I don’t think that anybody who’s thinking clearly can get that.”
Fauci was responding to a clip of author Alex Berenson, who spoke at CPAC in Dallas on Saturday.
“The government was hoping that they could sort of sucker 90% of the population into getting vaccinated,” said Berenson, who routinely spreads misinformation about COVID-19 and was dubbed “The Pandemic’s Wrongest Man” by The Atlantic.
“And it isn’t happening,” he added, prompting cheers from the crowd….

I heard the clip. There were like 4 people who clapped. I am sure more outrageous things were said and applauded by more people at the confab.
jamesb says
Fauci is in for a rough next year……
Even Biden & Co is pushing the economy opening up and kids going back to school
Around my way?
Still over 85% still wearing masks IN stores….
And about 50% outside…..
CG says
I find that extremely hard to believe.
But in any event, get vaccinated.
CG says
In June, Long Island had the highest vaccination rate in New York state.
jamesb says
Believe it…..
The only saving grace for the Delta virus is it seems to be less serious than the orginal strain…..
The deaths and hospital numbers are low in the affected states ….
Winter will be the test
CG says
I do not believe that many people on Long Island are wearing masks in stores and certainly not outdoors.
And if they are fully vaccinated, they have no reason to.
jamesb says
Well i’m keeping it REAL CG…..
In minority area’s the numbers ARE NORTH of 90%
In Trump country About 75%
CG?
Outside few people wear masks
They keep them in their pockets to use going inside and close quarters
This applies for those who have gotten shots
It works
New York’s numbers remain mikes below the anti vac and anti- mask mostly Red State’s
BYW?
Cuomo says no masks for those with shots
People make decisions for themselves
jamesb says
NYC Schools will require masks right now….
Scott P says
On my last visit to my local Target on Saturday I felt like the number of people with masks was up to maybe one in three.
A few weeks ago it was more like one in five.
CG says
I would estimate 1 in 10 at my local supermarket are still wearing masks. Vaccination rates are fairly high here (and not a whole lot of Trump supporters)
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I’ve never heard that the Delta variant was less serious. It’s killed hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions.
jamesb says
DSD?
Check the numbers for deaths and hospitals
Those numbers are STILL dropping across the country
Of course?
The states COULD messing with the numbers
CG says
Every indication is that fully vaccinated people are strongly protected against the Delta variant.
jamesb says
Yes CG…..
And same here Scott…..
On the Delta death and hospital numbers there
Could be lags in the numbers
CG says
100 percent of the recent Covid 19 deaths are of unvaccinated people.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
My local Walgreens in Providence, RI., used to be fairly stringent about masks and distancing. Now masks are optional for staff and the plexiglass screen has come down from the checkout counter.
How many of these choices were made at the store level, the national level, or somewhere in between I do not know.
jamesb says
We still have plexi
Masks are optional also
My Name Is Jack says
Biden will support local vaccine mandates.
CG says
Do you mean local mask mandates?
I don’t think any government entity can mandate vaccines.
My Name Is Jack says
No I mean exactly what I said.
CG says
What government entity is mandating or can mandate that people get vaccines?
CG says
Schools do not count in what I was considering. It is not mandatory for anyone to attend a public school or university. There have always been vaccine mandates for public schools.
My Name Is Jack says
I
Go look it up.
Use google.
You know how to do that?
Ridiculous
CG says
I think you meant “masks” and are now pulling a james.
My Name Is Jack says
Headline from Washington Post…
“ Fauci says there should be more Covid VACCINE MANDATES (emphasis added)at the local level. “
Headline from The Hill…
“Biden will back VACCINE MANDATES(emphasis added and the source of my original post)
You need to read more and inform yourself before you start with your accusations.
CG says
He is talking about “businesses and schools” and I am not talking about businesses and schools. Totally different issue.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not seriously believe you would support locking people up for not being vaccinated (who would run this blog?) or fining them as a condition for not being blogged.
CG says
not being vaccinated* ( i was on the phone)
CG says
FWIW, my one time Trump-agreeing father, who totally soured on him after 1/6, is on a bit of a personal crusade regarding people who have not gotten vaccinated and has started controversy within the club he belongs to regarding unvaxxed long-time friends that he now wants no part of.
jamesb says
U need a waiver in NY fir a kid to not have the required shots…..
CG says
For public schools? As mentioned, that is a different discussion.
Parents are not getting locked up though. Obviously, they should vaccinate their kids and you and your whole family (those that are old enough and eligible) should get vaccinated for Covid-19
jamesb says
CG?
New babies and young children get shots for childhood diseases….
THAT IS Mandated by the states…..
Biden can only do so in a national emergency
The Supreme’s would NOT support Biden now I’d think….
CG says
No, it’s not mandated by the “state.”
Public schools can require vaccines for those sort of things but there is no law saying that children must attend public schools.
A vaccine mandate in terms of a person’s freedom (not being locked up) or being fined is definitely unconstitutional and I thought you people were supposed to believe in “my body, my choice.”
jamesb says
CG?
In NY?
The STATE Heath and Education Dept’s work together on mandates…..
During the pandemic Cuomo set the ground rules
Last winter businesses HAD to ask the STAYE if they could operate
Not the county or city unless Cuomo deferred to them…..
Local’s require MORE NOT Less……
But need the state’s permission
CG says
You don’t understand the question or the distinction.
Public schools can mandate vaccines for measles, mumps, etc. It was like that when I was a kid too. If they want to mandate a vaccine for Covid as a condition for attending the public school, I would not really have a huge problem with that.
But that is far different than a government mandate in which somebody is imprisoned because of their lack of vaccination or confiscating money from them for it. I would oppose that and I do not see anyone here who is going to say they disagree.
It would be a personal shame for you james if you are among the unvaccinated and will not get to watch your granddaughter graduate in person one day because of these requirements.
CG says
In my view, it makes zero sense to require fully vaccinated students or staff members to have to wear masks in schools. It defeats the purpose of wanting people to get vaccinated.
Of course I feel sorry for children who are too young to be vaccinated and those who will be returning to in person school for the first time in a year and a half. Even though child to child transmission between then is said to be extremely rare, it makes more sense there to require masks until they can get vaccinated.
CG says
Kristi Noem is already subtly targeting DeSantis, inferring he was a pansy over Covid.
DeSantis’ online fans are already angry over this and fighting back.
Just craziness. In 2020, Democrats fought in the primaries about who would be the least tough on illegal immigration (and somehow it worked out for them… kinda narrowly) and in 2024 Republicans are going to fight over who cared the least about the pandemic.
Scott P says
Yeah debating immigration policy is just like bragging over who is most pro virus.
Sure.
CG says
Both can be politically harmful.
Democrats did themselves a great disservice by fighting amongst themselves over who was more pro open borders and who would do more to not fight illegal immigration in their debates. Luckily for Biden, he managed to stay out of those conversations in the debates (the other candidates were not taking him seriously at that point) and thanks to many center and center-right voters, (in alignment with traditional Democrats) Biden won the nomination and ultimately the Presidency, though it was not exactly the sweeping victory for the party that could have been the case for reasons other than that.
If Sanders or Warren or Beto or some others were nominated, Trump would be President today.
If Republicans make a foolish decision in 2024, a Democrat will almost surely remain President.
Scott P says
Yawn.
CG says
Well, you were definitely overconfident about 2020, as I had warned, but at least it worked out well in the big race.
Already though, there are polls showing Trump himself ahead of Harris in a potential 2024 match-up.
Scott P says
Oh you “warned” huh?
I forget how much of a seer you are. I mean Trump has completely lost interest in politics like you said he would 6 months ago abd the GOP is truly moving on from him right?
CG says
No I didn’t say that. I do not think Trump will run in 2024 though.
You of course predicted certain defeat for Susan Collins and Ann Wagner, just to name a couple. Some overconfidence perhaps.
Scott P says
I have no problem admitting when I’m wrong. Which U was about Collins and Wagner.
You predicted Trump would lose interesr in politics based on stuff his niece said and now you are being dishonest about it.
CG says
I never said “totally.” He clearly is more interested in himself than politics. That should not be a surprise.
Scott P says
Ha! Way to backtrack
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah !everyone here well remembers his “prediction” that Trump would “fade away.”
He’s really quick to jump on past words of everyone else but then obfuscate his own.
So he didn’t say he would “totally” do whatever?
“Totally?”
Trump is by far still the dominant figure in the Republican Party as everyone well knows. What does “totally” have to do with anything.
jamesb says
I too do NOT think Trump will ‘Seriously’ run in 2024…..
I would like to say Republicans would be crazy to let him run…
But?
A Lot of them are falling over themselves to ID WITH him……
My felling is if Republicans ARE REALLY THAT stupid and run the ‘Loser’?
Joe Biden will be able to get an even BIGGER Win then he did a half a year ago….
Scott P says
And what kind of nutcase do you have to be think Ron DeSantis didn’t do enough to let the virus run rampant?
I swear these right wing kooks would nominate the COVID virus itself for President if they could
CG says
Covid was born in China and thus ineligible.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
In fact, Donald Trump will tell you that its foreign birth certificate reads “Kung Flu”.
Zreebs says
Contrary to want CG wants to promote, I believe that ALL of the major Democrats running for President said at one rime or another that they opposed open borders. I am not sure about Castro and perhaps some of the other early dropouts, but he was not a serious candidate.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I know Bernie Sanders said that he doesn’t support open borders.
