Good Virus news for a change?
Is this a preview for America in the coming weeks?
Has the Delta virus burned itself down in the UK?
Or?
Maybe a lot of other things like less testing, high vaccine rate, or even herd immunity?
Whatever?
The country has reopened as the cases reported have dropped by almost 50%….
The trajectory of the virus in the U.K. is something the world is watching closely and anxiously, as a test of how the delta variant behaves in a society with relatively high vaccination rates. And now people are asking if this could be the first real-world evidence that the pandemic in Britain is sputtering out — after three national lockdowns and almost 130,000 deaths.
Public health experts, alongside the government, predicted that cases would be rising in Britain at this point, perhaps even exponentially.
The highly contagious delta variant of the virus, first detected in India, accounts for almost all new cases here. On July 17, the number of new day cases reached 54,674, the highest since January.
Two days later, dubbed “Freedom Day” by the press, Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government ended almost all government mandates in England for mask-wearing and social distancing. Pubs are serving pints at the rail and night clubs have reopened with maskless youths packed on the dance floors. Viral defense is now a “personal choice.”
And so some of the best infectious-disease modelers on the planet warned that 100,000 new cases a day this summer could be expected.
But the trend since then has been sharp decline….
Vaccine mandates are starting to spread among large companies and that trend will probably continue.
Many Republicans ,particularly in the south, are vigorously opposing such.As usual ,evidencing more concern for the virus spreaders than those vaccinated who are trueing to protect themselves and others.
The Walk Street Journal ,not exactly bastion of “them libruls,” noted the incongruity of those who claim to be pro free enterprise and “libertarian” (although that term is used so indiscriminately as to have little meaning anymore) ,objecting to such mandates .
Dr Brett Giroir who was a leading spokesman in the Trump Administration on Covid, says that all unvaccinated people will eventually get the Delta Covid variant.Citing the fact that the variant is so contagious,Giroir says as to the unvaccinated,”it’s just a matter of time.”
At this point that would be half the Republicans in the House.
Giroir of course worked in the Trump Administration.
Another doctor who worked in the Trump Administration former FDA head Scott Gottlieb says he thinks the delta wave will begin to recede in the US over the next two to three weeks.
I believe nearly all House Republicans are really vaccinated. They just do not want to say so publicly in order to “own the libs.”
They would rather keep people guessing, which is something we heard expressed by someone here who if he is vaccinated, does not want to admit it in order to “own jack” who used to ask him all the time.
