Bill Barr is gone….
It is unknown if Trump will try to go to the courts again on this…
It seems kinda stupid if the Manhattan DA can get Trump’s info and the House, which writes the tax code, and oversee’s the IRS, can’t get access ?…
And yes…
We KNOW his info WILL be leaked to the public…
But we already know most the stuff anyways from the NY Times exhaustive reporting….
House Democrats had sought eight years of the president’s tax returns, and federal law gives the Ways & Means Committee broad authority to get an individual’s tax information.
The Biden Justice Department has concluded that seeking Trump’s taxes serves “a legitimate legislative purpose.”
The Justice Department said the committee “has invoked sufficient reasons for requesting the former President’s tax information.” The agency sent its 39-page legal opinion to the Treasury Department, which would formally deliver Trump’s returns to the committee….

From the handwritten notes of Acting AG Jeff Rosen ,Dec.27 ,with Trump…
“ Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican Congressmen.”
Translation: I’m a thief and I know most of the Republicans in Congress are too.
Trump sure knows his fellow Republicans,
Zreebs says
The only thing surprising about the written notes is that Rosen made them and did not destroy them.
At this point, How can anyone be surprised that Trump is corrupt and that most of the Republican Congress is too?
jamesb says
Z?
Rosen is smart lawyer
Keith says
Because he takes notes??
LOL
My Name Is Jack says
Hey I take notes too.
I must be a “smart” lawyer!
jamesb says
Because he covers HIS ass…..He told Trump the DOJ couldn’t just hop to…The notes actually came from another lawyer who witnessed these conversations and Rosen knew notes where being kept
Zreebs says
James will explain what he means. He does like it when he says something that we think is foolish.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Hell, even Derek Chauvin (like any properly-trained professional cop) took notes like crazy during his own trial.
So, he, too must be a smart lawyer.
Though he might run into difficulty getting or keeping his licence to practise law.
jamesb says
Don’t they teach ya to take notes in basic law 101 Jack?
Zreebs says
I was taught to take notes around fifth grade. I don’t recall which year of grammar school it was. But if Jack wants to reply to James, I will eagerly read his answer.
My Name Is Jack says
You sure as Hell better know how to take notes before you get to law school!
My Name Is Jack says
I presume what James is referring to is “briefing” cases which is form of note taking.
Actually no one “teaches” you that. You just pick it up quickly and it’s sort of rote.
jamesb says
Note to ‘note’ eh counselor?
jamesb says
One word CAN change rhe whole meaning….
jamesb says
This is fucking ridiculous…
An attorney for former President Trump says he will fight to block the release of his tax returns days after the Department of Justice ordered them turned over to the Democratic-led House Ways and Means Committee.
“There is no evidence of any wrongdoing here and I object to the release of the returns not only on behalf of my client but on behalf of all future holders of the office of the president of the United States,” Ronald Fischetti, a lawyer for Trump, told The Wall Street Journal….

As a private individual, how does Trump have standing to interfere in what amounts to a routine request by the legislative branch for a document from the executive branch in furtherance of a legislative function?
Anybody think a ‘private citizen’ could go to court to stop Congress from looking at their tax return?
Anybody?
Keith says
This can all be fixed if we only all give a contribution to Liz Cheney. Didn’t you know that Zreebs?!
It’s our responsibility to protect the Republican Party from itself and reward those few who actually do the right thing.
My Name Is Jack says
Liz Cheney of course is a typical conservative Republican who ,until Jan. 6, could have accurately been described as a “MAGA red hat wearing bootlicker.”Liz ,like many Republicans in Congress ,was shocked and frightened by the events of that day.
We all remember the denunciations that emanated from Lindsay Graham and Mitch McConnell.SC former Governor Nikki Haley lustily denounced Trump.
The problem? The Republican voters didn’t react that way.Indeed, as the days went by they began explaining it all away and one thing was abundantly clear It didn’t lessen their support for Trump.A few months later polls showed most of them were actively buying into his lies about the election.
So Nikki tried to call Trump to apologize. The wimp Graham? After being harassed by a Republican mob at the airport hastily reunited with his old golfing buddy.Mitch? He slinked into the background and wanted to talk about anything other than Trump.
Cheney was the exception though. The events made an indelible impression upon her.She totally shed her bootlickin ways and became a fierce critic of Trump and his election lies.So much so that she was kicked out of her Leadership post, censured by her state party ,and became a general outcast in the Republican political world.
I admire Cheney’s courage at breaking with with Trump, her brute honesty as to the Jan 6 mob violence and her standing up to a clown like Kevin McCarthy .Having said that, Cheney herself readily states that she is still a conservative Republican .Her prerogative of course, however I would think that she might wish to re-examine her association with what that seems to mean of late.Whatever though ,that’s her call.
I’m aDemocrat.Like all of us ,my financial resources are such that whatever political contributions I make are fairly limited.Supporting Liz Cheney , whom I politically disagree with on about every issue ,is not in my future. That should be the job of Republicans who support not only her anti Trump stand but her political views in general.
Just my take.
Zreebs says
Good point. I think I heard that argument from someone before.
Opposing sedition may be the only thing I agree with Cheney on.
will she support the right for all to vote (which really is an indication of whether she believes in democracy)? Will she be willing to take action to oppose global warming? Does she have the courage to protect transgender youth or marriage equality?
Keith says
Liz wholeheartedly endorsed voter suppression.
Not a very pro-democracy position to take.
jamesb says
I keep saying…
She IS a tried and TRUE REPUBLICAN….
Even if she ain’t accepting Trump’s bull shit…..
